And how old are they?

Just curious

When I was young i had a bath once a week on a Sunday at school age until I was old enough to shower independently.

My 4 week old has had one proper bath but is wiped down with cotton wool as and when needed

How often are you bathing your kids?

6 year old once or twice a week, and showers in between if necessary. And no @Easymeasy it's not disgusting, he's perfectly clean enough (including his hands and ears) and it's better for his skin...unbeknownst to us, bathing every day was drying out his skin, even with very gentle specialist cleansers, and when we stopped it on the advice of the doctor, the eczema and everything else cleared up almost immediately.

Daily bathing is "normal" now, but it never used to be, and isn't in many cultures...and neither me nor the DC bath/shower every day now (unless we're going out somewhere) and our skin is happier for it. And no, we don't smell!!

3 children under 8 and under.
They have a bath once or twice a week. I won’t change their uniform all week unless obviously dirty a little sponge down on a mark on jumper is fine.
3 year has a bath most days as he sometimes have accidents.
As they grow and develop hormones I will encourage washing most days but for now as they are little and don’t smell I don’t see the need it’s a waste of energy.

Georgeskitchen · 16/03/2022 16:51

Those whose children bath and wash hair every day and clean uniform every day are probably the same ones who complain about high heating bills/destruction of the planet.
I grew up in the sixties and it was bath and hair wash once a week and clean uniform once a week. Changed into playing out clothes on arrival home from school. I have no recollection of sitting next to anyone in my school class who smelt!

1-2 times a week. I am a single working mum, I don't have time for nightly baths! My child is washed daily. My child is not filthy and smelly as implied by some. When I was a kid, we had a bath every Sunday, it was perfectly acceptable then

Lorw · 16/03/2022 16:54

My LG is 9 weeks old and gets a bath, bottle, story and then down to bed every night, it’s our routine, down at half 9 sleep through to half 7, also she’s constantly doing explosive nappies and covering herself so sometimes she gets 2 a day 😂

When she’s older will probably be a shower every day even if it’s just a quick wash Grin

EmpressSuiko · 16/03/2022 16:55

Mine shower every other day.
Baths are very rare as we have oil heating.

SundaysinKernow · 16/03/2022 16:56

@Easymeasy children don’t sweat as adults do hence the before puberty mention. No need to be so judgmental, someone having different habits from yourself isn’t gross. A full bath once per week and a daily wash in the sink is fine for lot of kids. I find at their ages the kids are capable of not spilling food down themselves. If they have it can be spot cleaned. Much better for the environment.

pictish · 16/03/2022 16:59

As seldom as I could away with….maybe twice a week? They’re all independent now but yeah I was never one for the nighty bath routine. Too much hassle when it wasn’t required.

Okaaaay · 16/03/2022 17:06

DD 5 - twice a week with hair wash, DS 2 probably thrice a week. Neither like the bath (I know, how is that even possible) and my DD had severe eczema hence we changed the routine for both.

zaffa · 16/03/2022 17:06

@Whatelsecouldibecalled

2 year old. Every day
Ditto
wakeupandshakeup · 16/03/2022 17:06

Twice a week, hair wash each time.. we do have showers also twice a week after swimming. Boys aged 9 & 10.. can't get them in the shower at home as it's too powerful/ noisy and both are a little sensitive with sound as they have autism.

Thatsplentyjack · 16/03/2022 17:08

Baby (every night usually without dolphin as her skin is quite bad).
14 year old has one every morning.
The 8 year old....I've given up. He goes when he wants because I'm not making it a battle.

JellybeansJelly · 16/03/2022 17:08

@monicagellerbing Judgmental much?

Lulu1919 · 16/03/2022 17:10

Daily ....as part of a routine
Upstairs ..bath...pjs ...story ...bed

Dutchesss · 16/03/2022 17:11

3 to 4 times a week

maddiemookins16mum · 16/03/2022 17:12

When DD was a small baby, three of four times a week. Once she was smearing spaghetti in her hair - nightly.
As a toddler, nightly as it calmed her down before bed.
School - again probably 3-4 times a week until she was big enough to decide for herself (about 9) and she would shower regularly albeit with prompting.

Thursday37 · 16/03/2022 17:14

2.5 year old usually twice a week with hair washed. Quick wash of vital bits daily.

More often if she’s really dirty eg paint or
mud but her skin doesn’t like baths so we minimise them.

TeeNoG · 16/03/2022 17:14

7 year old boy, twice a week in the winter. He used to have a bath most days, but his excema is much better with less bathing.

More in the summer when his skin tends to be better anyway and he is playing outside more/wearing sun cream etc 🙂

Erm no.

Anyway, ours have 5 clean school shirts and clean underwear and socks for every day.
Full bath every other day and a quick wash on the days off.
Hair is washed once a week, they both have long hair and it's pointless washing it more than once a week.

I think once our shower is fitted they'll probably have a shower every day. In and out in 2-3mins.

It's nice to be clean and presentable.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 16/03/2022 17:35

Always nightly.
They’re 21 and 16 now and the 16 year old still has a bath every night.
I do too. It’s part of my unwinding and getting ready to sleep and Dds agree. Even we’ve been out and it’s quite late, she makes time for a quick dunk.

LeftieLucy · 16/03/2022 17:39

My 2.5 year old is a dirt magnet - that’s don’t know how she gets so filthy! She has a bath every night.

My 4.5yo has asd and learning disabilities, and he hates the bath. He also has quite bad excema so he has a wash down every night and a bath every 7-10 days.

Dociousalaexpifragalisticcalas · 16/03/2022 17:41

Depends on how mucky they get. 11mo so these days every other or more due to weaning mess. Baths wound her up so stopped using them as bed time routine.

Fossilsmorefossils · 16/03/2022 17:44

@Easymeasy

5 year old every night. Absolutely disgusting people bathing their children once or twice a week. No wonder so many children have dirty, waxy ears and long, dirty finger nails. Some children actually smell and you guys as parents probably can't smell it.
Due to really severe eczema my dd's skin breaks into multiple wounds more than an inch across if I bathe her more often than once a week. And that is while I use prescribed cream a few times a day. Doctors orders (cream and hardly bathing).

What do you suggest I do?

tunainatin · 16/03/2022 17:44

11 and 8, twice a week but with good hygiene habits (teeth face hands and privates) the rest of the days. Once 11 year old is at secondary school I'll be encouraging a daily shower.

blockbustervideo · 16/03/2022 17:47

4 and 3 yo. Every night.
