Making effort with dd1 who was 2 last week. She has been showing signs of being ready since she was 17mths. So today we have been bare bottomed and managed 10 wees on potty, 7 elsewhere..about 4 of which were just dribbles.. we also had one pooh half on floor and half on potty...not too bad for first day I think.

I am wanting to potty train DD3. She will be 3 in April. She was all but potty trained before me woved house and now is holding on and insists on wearing nappies.
Hoping to bribe her with sweets, because when she does do something on the toilet she does like a good clap and "well done".

I am potty training dd2 - she is 2.7. So far so good. Today was the first day 'in ernest' as we really had so much to do over the last few days, people staying etc etc. She won't really sit on the potty but will sit on the loo. She seems ok about weeing but I am not sure about poo: she has always taken herself off to a quiet corner to do it in her nappy up until now so I hope she will manage one in the loo ( she didn't do one today at all).Anyway she had two wee accidents today but otherwise held on until she was taken to the loo and even asked to go a couple of times!!

I am worried though as dd1 was a nightmare to train!

ds decided to try to wee on potty again today.im going to have to just do it arent i!!but got upset after a bit and wanted his nappy on,i think he wanted poo.were not actually potty training as such just sitting him on potty or loo when he wants to.

am just going to keep going with dd1 for a week..if she cracks it then great, if not then nothing lost really. She obviously knows whats going on its just whether emotionally she is ready.

so are you leaving all bottoms off and sitting at certain times or what?i cant remember what happened with dd and ds1!ds2 does seem to want to try but i dont know whether to continue letting him have nappy days and non nappy days?im sure that will confuse him so maybe should just go for it.also im thinking ive got bit till older dc go back to school so maybe would be sensible??

i dont know arrrggghh

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 29/12/2007 21:43

I did all yesterday bottomless..this morning we were bottomless but she refused potty at all..so I brought out the big guns in the form of some fifi knickers which she didnt want to mess so they remained in tact from 1-7pm..lol

nappy and non nappy days would be confusing though, don't you think? I leave dds clothes on as she feels the wee more if she has an accident so hopefully she won't like the feeling of being soggy! also as another poster said it does help soak up the wee so less clearing up!

moljam · 29/12/2007 21:45

wow!ds has some brum pants but isnt interested in them.

moljam · 29/12/2007 21:46

so should i just bite the bullet?give it a try and if it doesnt work try again in a few months.i wanted to wait till summer but ds seems to want to try!

donnie · 29/12/2007 21:46

I kept putting it off but realised there is no good time - I decided to bite the bullet. I do find myself getting obsessed though and thinkign non stop about wee/poo/pants/accidents......!

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 29/12/2007 21:46

I havent put a nappy on dd1 unless it is bed time..even for her naps she has been without. Havent put trousers on her as yet..will leave that for monday and just do knickers again tommorow.

I think if you have nothing else going on then bite the bullet..I decided this week because we dont have anything else at all to do between now and the 7th which is a big run to try. If she is ready I should know by then.

my dd is 2y 5m and got a potty for christmas! after new year when things are settled down we will begin with intent - however, just on the off chance I popped her on the pot before bed and what do you know? A big girl wee!

She was so proud of herself! Good luck to you all and all your little ones!

donnie · 29/12/2007 21:49

that was my reasoning too Nemo - no school run, work etc until a week Monday so go for it!

moljam · 29/12/2007 21:50

i may well copy you!weve got till 7th free.ive got dd and ds1 home so hopefully theyll help with encouragement for him.

ooooh scary!so do i sit him on regulary?certain times?i really cant remember?any other tips????

MerryBiglipsmas · 29/12/2007 21:52

hello nemo - well done!!

i decided to go cold turkey with dd when she was 2.5 yrs old (i bought her a potty before she turned 2 and it didnt work till i decided to go cold turkey), and it worked brilliantly plus i got her 2 books of "I want my potty"...unsure if your DD1 will understands the story thou!. plus bought her Dora knickers that she chose as they are her faves!

donnie · 29/12/2007 21:52

we are taking her roughly every hour or 45 mins to the loo, it is only her first day today though. I will try that for a few days then ease off a bit, hoping she gets more pro-active about it herself. In theory, of course, as it could all go horribly wrong.I will still put her in a pull up for her afternoon nap though.

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 29/12/2007 21:52

with dd1 I tried sitting her on and she screamed so I just randomly shout out dont forget to use the potty or ask where the potty is and then say ohhh where do we wee and pooh..on the pppppoottyyyyyyyyyy...even ds shouts it now...lol To be honest dd1 uses it more consistently if I dont say anything to her and I remeber ds being the same when he trained.

it also heps that DH is off work at the mo as well so it's a two pronged attack...

MerryBiglipsmas · 29/12/2007 21:53

BUT she refused the potty for a while as she was preferring the toilet instead...now she use both

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 29/12/2007 21:53

hi BLS..and thank you although nothing is well done yet..lol You know what H is like on her own planet and stubborn so will just see what happens.

OP posts:
MerryBiglipsmas · 29/12/2007 21:54

dont forget to remind DD1 every half an hour for a wee!

MerryBiglipsmas · 29/12/2007 21:55

yyeeesss i can imagine with dd1

she is her own person isnt she?

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 29/12/2007 21:55

I do remind and she gives me her dirty look..lol On the other hand DD2 will quite happily sit on the potty..soo much so I considered taking her nappy off..pmsl

MerryBiglipsmas · 29/12/2007 21:56
