Making effort with dd1 who was 2 last week. She has been showing signs of being ready since she was 17mths. So today we have been bare bottomed and managed 10 wees on potty, 7 elsewhere..about 4 of which were just dribbles.. we also had one pooh half on floor and half on potty...not too bad for first day I think.

moljam if it is making you both miserable then wait..its not worth it if oyu and ds are getting upset and stressed

I agree

ScoutFinch · 01/01/2008 09:31

The thing is he doesn't complain about it hurting when he does it in his pants or when he used to do it in the nappy so that's what makes me think it's a potty fear thing.

scout have you tried letting ds decorate the potty etc or even just move onto the loo?

DD1 is doing fantastically today..we have brought in the knickers and so far so good..she has run at me manically shouting pooh or potty where I then pull off her knickers and she goes the loo..even did a huge pee on the toilet this morning

Am a bit worried about when she goes to nursery as her and dd2 only started there a couple of weeks before christmas although it is only one morning and one afternoon. Will see how she does between now and monday then if not confident might put her in pull ups with knickers under and just tell the staff.

Well I just can't get ds to go on the big loo, he is fantastic on the potty and has been dry the last 5 mornings too, but he just doesn't like the toilet, I need to get him to go on it at some point though I wonder if he will go on the little toilets at nursery? He is there on thursday so I can ask them if they can persuade him. I must admit I am a little nervous about him going on thursday now, he has been doing so well I hope it doesn't put him off.

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 01/01/2008 20:13

mrs fish fingers crossed he will be ok and the little loos might be more appealing..

DD1 has done really well and not a single accident in the knickers so tomorrow trousers going on top

Brilliant news Nemo - you see all it takes is a little perseverence

TheMNPeacekeepingForce · 02/01/2008 21:26

We took ds's nappy off today for a couple of hours before bedtime - one small wee in the potty (hurray! the first one despite having done this type of couple of hours session twice before) and 2 accidents. Wee in potty rewarded with choc button but with the other two wees he was distracted and must have forgotten.

Will do the same tomorrow - want to go buy more re-usable training pants first.

Nemoandthefishes · 02/01/2008 22:12

ohh just put some brand new traiing pants on for sale...lol

DD1 has cracked it, 2nd dry day and fully clothed..no prompts for potty she just asked when she needed to go. Although she wont pull her pants down herself yet..lol

TheMNPeacekeepingForce · 02/01/2008 22:47

what size are they Nemo?

Although that said if John Lewis have them in stock i will prob buy tomorrow as want to get going quickly

Nemoandthefishes · 02/01/2008 22:56

they are mothercare ones 24-36mth

moljam · 02/01/2008 23:04

i brought gf potty book today.it looks quite good.a few good ideas.am still waiting a bit though

MrsFish · 03/01/2008 09:57

Well ds wouldn't wear his nappy to bed last night, so I foolishly let him wear his pants as he had been dry the previous 4 nights... you guessed it, 3am this morning, hysterical crying as he had wet himself, poor lamb

moljam · 03/01/2008 11:16

one change in night is really good though!i remember more about night training dd and ds1 than i do about day for some reason!and i know with dd it was 4-5 times a night for few days although she been dry in nappy at night.ds was much easier.

TheMNPeacekeepingForce · 03/01/2008 17:48

hmmm just put ds in pants for his couple of hours session (thought I'd do this each day before ditching nappies altogether just to get him used to it)
Anyway he went straight to the potty saying 'chocolate button chocolate button' and forced out the world's smallest wee and then claimed his button. Hmmm.

At least presumably this means he has control and has grasped the concepts???

I bet you a choc button he does his next, no doubt proper full on wee in the pants.....

Nemoandthefishes · 03/01/2008 20:54

ohh was going to ask about night training before we started a few nights dd1 had a dry nappy in morning. Last night again she was bone dry and tonight she asked for no nappy. I have put one on her after a big fight so if its dry do I try with none tommorow?

Today in day she has been fantastic as we went to a friends house where she was playing but still came and asked every time she needed loo or potty..lol

moljam · 03/01/2008 20:55

lol!thats fantastic though that he understands what your doing!least hes trying.

TheMNPeacekeepingForce · 03/01/2008 22:11

yep he did it in his pants....argh!

By the way Nemo I bought Mothercare training pants today and they don't work for ds at all - don't fit as well as the Bambino Mio ones and seemed not to absorb anything at all - or maybe it was they were just too gappy round his legs.
Not for us I think!

moljam · 03/01/2008 22:13

!
we tried mothercare pants with dd but found them useless.

Nemoandthefishes · 03/01/2008 22:26

no probs mn..as I said I havent used them at all my mum bought them as a major hint I thinkObviously dd1 got the hint better than me..lol

mrsshackleton · 04/01/2008 17:46

Hi
We started dd1 cold turkey on Weds, first day back from staying with in laws and a few days to go until nursery on Mon. She's 2.10 and the big deal had always been refusing to do a poo in the toilet/potty. But on new year's eve she started screaming she needed to go in the bath so i hauled her out and plonked her on the loo and even though she screamed and wept she did a poo and that was a big turning point, she was incredibly proud of herself and was showered in chocolates and praise, plus we rang whole family who all praised her to the skies, so she was glowing with pride.
Sicne then it's into big girl knickers all day long and even though she has a bit of diarrhoea today (mmm nice) she's done virtually all her wees and poos in the toilet, just a couple of small accidents. Think the message here is we left it pretty late, much to in law's disgust, but when we went in hard core it seems to have clicked pretty much immediately. A little bit concerned about the amount of chocolate she's scoffing (stickers just don't cut the mustard) but otherwise it's been reasonably painless, fingers crossed. And it's so nice not having to change her pooey nappies any more. only two more years to go until we get dd2 out as well

LizzieO · 04/01/2008 19:21

My DS is 3.2 and we have just started potty training in earnest since last Sunday, altho we have been encouraging him to use the potty since last summer he would go on it when encouraged but was still been in nappies, as he just didn't seem ready.

Now unless i put him on potty every 45 mins or so he will quite happily just wet himself or poo his pants, when i ask him where he should be doing it he will say "on the potty" when i ask why he didn't go on potty he replies with a smile "cos i didn't"
Its been an absolute nightmare, we are using stickers and chocs, he starts back at nursery next week so maybe that will make a difference.

I had a feeling he was going to be hard to train but after almost 7 days we don't seem to be getting anywhere.

Is it just a case of perserverence, anyone got any tips ?

Nemoandthefishes · 04/01/2008 21:56

mrsshacklton sounds good well done to your little girl!!!

Lizzie have you tried him bare bottomed first? I think at first pants can be confusing as they just assume its a nappy.

Had a little accident today but dd1 is doing really well. She wet herself at a friends house but she was extremely distracted in playing with a street glider on one of her shoes..lol
