How many generations back did it go wrong for Arthur

The awful case of Arthur L-H has got me thinking about the long term causes of these situations. Clearly all three adults involved were completely despicable but why? What's caused this and where did it go wrong?

Can this level of disfunction happen in one generation or would there be a history of it if one looked back a few generations?

Just such a completely desperate case, the poor, poor child.

It does certainly make you wonder what would have happened to someone else in a less privileged position. I noted in the article people did think the judge was unfair. She is also very pretty so there might have been an element of a so called ‘Chivalrous’ judgement towards a female. Another kind of judgement towards females may denigrate them as ‘Evil and deviant’ ( because women shouldn’t be that way).
I do believe the addictions are likely enough though in the case of that would-be surgeon- vodka as well as champagne.

Am I wrong in thinking the woman is dads relatively new girlfriend, not stepmum?

You are not wrong and I wish people wouldn't use the term so readily. ET was certainly no sort of mother to poor Arthur.

I think it's true you can trace most deviant behaviour back to trauma. Not saying that trauma always causes that kind of thing because clearly it doesn't.

But that said. I actually think it's an incredibly rare family that you can't go back a generation or two (if that) and find trauma. Many of our grandparents spent their formative years during wartime. Their own parents may have fought in WWI. Times were hard and harsh throughout much of the centuries preceding that. We have come a long way in a short time.

@ScrollingLeaves, certainly seems like a bit of a halo effect going on.

Agree with @JustLyra and @PicsInRed.

You could just as easily argue that as Arthur's mother was the link between his father and the boyfriend she killed it must be her influence that causes men to behave poorly.
No, there is evidence that TH was abusive toward Olivia during their relationship, and that Tustin was obsessed with the idea that TH would leave her and return to Olivia.

He comes across as a loser who perhaps liked the idea of two women fighting over him, and encouraged ET in her anxiety.

Hughes and his mother had a meeting with both the school and a paediatrician in November 2019 at which they spoke of their concerns for how vulnerable Arthur was, how he was clingy, babyish and obsessed with cuddly toys.

It is not recorded whether the school saw the lack of understanding of Arthur's needs as a sign that Arthur was in the wrong hands.

Is it possible that TH's mother organised this meeting in hopes of getting through to her son that trying to 'man up' his son was the wrong approach, hoping that the school would back her up if she was trying to protect Arthur from TH? It seems to me that TH's mother may have had an inkling that her son was a very poor father to Arthur long before the bruises began to show.

TH and his father had a blazing row on NYE 2020 over TH's terrible treatment of Arthur. ET's mother and stepfather couldn't accept the treatment of Arthur either.

Far from responding to Arthur with love as the school advised, TH embarked on a regime of terror and punishment, got rid of the cuddly toys and blanket, and ripped up his favourite football shirts.

So many joint enterprise convictions seen seriously misguided from a natural justice pov. And this guy ended on a manslaughter charge, that should be looked at if legally possible.

But what can we do to stop it happening to another poor, poor child?!

Thousands and thousands of children have not returned to school after lockdown. What are schools, social services and the department of education doing about those children who could be at risk, abused or just not getting a basic education. It is for some children their happy place, going to school. They get a hot meal. They get an education.

How was it acceptable that Arthur stopped going to school? How? How many other children are not in education?

It's a time bomb. And We do not have time.

We had a child not return to school after the first lockdown. This was a child already on our radar so sparked a referral and the child and his siblings are subsequently in long term foster care. Not all dc are going unnoticed
