Previously pretty good sleeper we're now going to bed but getting up at 11pm staying awake 'till 3/4am

Apart from the obvious effects 2 hours sleep is having on me, he's super grumpy all day because he's tired

He's not had a daytime nap since he turned 2 and he was sleeping 6pm to 6am

Any ideas? I've tried being super boring ie just walking him back to his room, I've tried leaving the radio on quiet I've tried lying with him, anything I do works for 15/20 mins then he's up again

Hmmmm not cheap or available on NHS but it's mainstream in Australia. I got my incredible non-sleeping child assessed and then treated for retained reflexes. She still had her Moro reflex so was basically pumped full of adrenalin.

Viviennemary · 07/12/2021 10:23

Certainly keep him up later in the evening. Until 8 pm or even 8.30/9 because this wakening up at 3 am sounds horrific. I don't think I would concentrate too much on naps through the day. I'm in bed asleep its the middle of the night. Repeat.

Cait73 · 07/12/2021 13:34

@Viviennemary I don't suppose you've read the whole thread (it's boring I know) I'm getting tired of repeating myself but here we go for the last time

THERE IS NO WAY I CAN KEEP HIM GOING TILL 8PM

Over the last 9 weeks we worked on pushing back his bedtime, got it to 7pm but it had absolutely no effect what so ever PLUS the last hour he's just a screaming mess

So no, I won't be putting him to bed later

@RandomMess we have health insurance that's very interesting, I'll look into it thanks

Ok sorry.

Cait73 · 07/12/2021 13:57

@RandomMess I've been doing some reading and I think you're onto something; he lives with me due to emotional trauma suffered during pregnancy, birth and infancy it all fits!!

Plus the way it mimics ADHD, that's pretty much what I thought he had

I'll talk to the gp and try to get a referral I assume that's the way forward?

Thank you SO much

@Viviennemary no I'm sorry, I'm awful when I'm tired and I appreciate you took the time to reply

Its fine. Lack of sleep is awful.

RandomMess · 07/12/2021 16:05

Alas I think the treatment is private.

There are some veeeeeery expensive practitioners out there. Like £600 for an assessment report 😳.

If you are prepared to travel to Windsor or Petersfield every 6-8 weeks then Please please please go and see Bob www.accesspotential.net

Ok so it was a decade ago but it cost less than £500 and he is just lovely and trains others across the world.

RandomMess · 07/12/2021 16:06

Oh some places don't even assess under 7s and don't deal with the Moro reflex such a INPP.

Cait73 · 07/12/2021 19:24

@RandomMess I spoke to another gp he said at under 5 they'd be more likely to treat the symptoms (which are basically adhd) but he's given me the details to self refer to a paediatrician

In the meantime antihistamine dose increased from 2.5mls to 4 I don't know if it'll make any difference but willing to give anything a try

Thanks

Bob will treat him, my DD was 3 when we first saw him.

The difference was within a few weeks although we probably had 5 sessions altogether spread over 8 months?

Cait73 · 07/12/2021 20:38

@RandomMess do you think our insurance will cover? We're with Benenden never used them, happy to travel to Windsor my cousins live there it's less than 2 hours

OP posts:
RandomMess · 07/12/2021 20:51

No idea guess you could ask them?

Even if it doesn't I expect each session is still less then £100 but you only go every 6-8 weeks

Cait73 · 07/12/2021 21:13

@RandomMess I've saved Bob's details to my home screen (thanks again) I'll see how I get on tomorrow with health visitor and gp referral oh abs insurance lol

@cait73 that is so difficult. I don't know how you're surviving.

Have you got anyone at all that you could ask to watch for a bit in the day so you can have a nap. Even as a one off.

When you're that sleep deprived I don't know how you can work out how to manage this differently.

Do you still have a health visitor? Can you talk to them to get some advice or refer you to a sleep specialist. You mentioned meltdowns...again can you talk to health visitor about this.

@Cait73 You might want to ask to move this post or ask the same question on the adoption boards too. Theres a great community on there of people who have adopted children with similar backgrounds to your LO so that might help or going through similar things which may help!

You’re doing everything you can and are clearly advocating for him so well. Keep going. You can do this

Cait73 · 07/12/2021 22:04

@MeltedButter yes we are in touch with the health visitor (the joys of ex lac child) we've been referred to the sleep clinic and I've just sent off the sleep schedule we were asked to keep for a week, I know there's a wait but it's progress none the less

Cait73 · 07/12/2021 22:05

@Noimaginationforaun I've tried posting on that board before never had one reply (not this particular problem) might try again
