Tiny DS in hospital with bronchiolitis - hand hold

DS 14weeks has had a bit of a cold the last few days but this morning really deteriorated. I took him to the GP who said it was just a cold and sent me away. Throughout the day he got worse, fighting for breath, not feeding at all etc so I insisted the GP see him again this afternoon. One look at him and we were sent straight to hospital. DS is now on oxygen with a feeding tube and I’m in bits seeing my tiny baby so helpless. I’m trying to pump but I’m so exhausted and hungry I’m not getting much. DP not allowed to stay due to bloody fucking Covid even though we’re in a side room. Not sure why I’m posting other than to just get it out there.

Sending gentle hugs for you and Henry.

I know exactly how you are feeling. My daughter had bronchiolitis at 3 weeks old, she also needed to be ventilated. I remember only to well how frightening it is, i know right now you feel like a train wreak Sad. Just know that the complete rest he is getting now is exactly what his little body needs, he will be so much better when he comes round lovey.

My daughter is now 16 and has just started her A levels. Hang in there lovey xx

Somethingsnappy · 10/09/2021 10:17

Late to this but thinking of you OP. Your little one will be okay.

This happened to one of my twins at 2 weeks old. We were in hospital for a week. Day4/5 was the worse but she slowly turned a corner, she was only about 5lb at the time and I’ll never forget seeing her hooked up to all the monitors or forget the sound of the beeping.

I’m currently sat cuddling her, she’s just started smiling at me and is 7 weeks old now. Gaining so much weight and is doing so well.

He’s in the best place. Children’s nurses are amazing as you’re in there on your own ask for all the help you need. Flowers

Awww baby Henry, I'm sending you healing and may the spirit of Jesus cover you and heal you. Praying you pull through little one. We're all rooting for you. Blessings x
Stay strong OP ❤️

Lilyfalls · 10/09/2021 10:30

Also so sorry your Dh can’t stay I think it’s awful I really do although I understand it. We were only allowed both of us there as we had both twins with us. I don’t know what I would have done being alone, you are so strong and doing amazing xx

TonkinLenkicks · 10/09/2021 10:33

This just happened with my 9 week old nephew. He’s in the right place and even though it’s scary they will look after him. On another note it’s absolutely disgusting that there can’t be two of you. I know my sister struggles. Sorry, that doesn’t help but it’s absolutely ridiculous. Sending Flowers

I’ve sat and read every single comment here and I am so thankful for all of your kindness and prayers. We remain stable in PICU, although fully sedated and paralysed. Having regular physio to try and get the gunk on his lungs moving. Only time will tell how long recovery will be, we have been told to expect to be here until the end of next week at least. I will continue to post updates about my little H and hopefully will be able to share a more positive update soon. Sending you all love and my heartfelt thanks x

Are you getting a chance to look after you? As hard as it is when I was in exactly the same position a nurse said to me “don’t forget while he is here it’s our job to look after you both. When you get home he will still need looking after so make the most of us and get some rest”

Take care

Realyorkshiretea · 10/09/2021 18:06

Op I am so relieved to hear you are ok and your lovely boy is holding his own. I will keep praying until he is feeling much better. Much easier said than done but try to drink little & often and eat, just snacks like bananas and yoghurts to keep your energy up. Lots of hot sugary tea as well if you drink it! Sending you both lots of love and healing vibes ✨

Ljc1985 · 10/09/2021 18:22

I've been checking this post all day! So glad your as ok as can be and thinking of you and your lovely boy

longerevenings · 10/09/2021 18:28

Really glad you are both doing ok OP.
Keep on drinking liquids and taking in food.
I'm sure you know this, but it can be hard to remember at times in hospital.
Take care.

AdviceOnLife · 10/09/2021 18:32

I am praying for Henry, you and all his family.
Don't forget to try and eat and drink too. You need to be well for when your lovely boy wakes up.
Hugs to you all Flowers

We were in for almost 3 weeks. My DD was vented on day 4 and was fully vented for 4 days, day 3 on PICU sedation was gradually reduced, and then C-PAP for about 48 hours and and she was on a normal ward for just over a week whilst her oxygen and NG feeds wear gradually reduced. Sending love and strength, please remember to look after yourself! dont stress overly about pumping, if henry needs some formula to top up your milk that really is the least of your worries. I used to feel feel guilt when i didnt manage to pump enough and looking back now i realise how ridiculous that was!. At the time though it felt like the only thing i could do for her.
