Tiny DS in hospital with bronchiolitis - hand hold

DS 14weeks has had a bit of a cold the last few days but this morning really deteriorated. I took him to the GP who said it was just a cold and sent me away. Throughout the day he got worse, fighting for breath, not feeding at all etc so I insisted the GP see him again this afternoon. One look at him and we were sent straight to hospital. DS is now on oxygen with a feeding tube and I’m in bits seeing my tiny baby so helpless. I’m trying to pump but I’m so exhausted and hungry I’m not getting much. DP not allowed to stay due to bloody fucking Covid even though we’re in a side room. Not sure why I’m posting other than to just get it out there.

When I created this thread I was desperate and terrified. I posted because I was lonely in a hospital by myself with my desperately unwell baby. I was seeking comfort and reassurance and I received that from the most lovely group of strangers. Reading every comment truly got me through some awful moments. I can’t thank you all enough. My final update is a happy one - Henry came home today. At his most unwell, H was cared for by the wonderful staff on the seahorse intensive care ward at Bristol children’s hospital. I will never be able to repay them. If you’ve found this thread in the future please know that your child will recover from RSV/bronchiolitis. You are in the best possible hands. In a life or death situation there is nowhere else I’d rather be in the world than in the arms of the NHS.

So for one last time thank you NHS and thank you MNers for the virtual hugs and handholds. The only way is up from here 😊

Oh I'm absolutely delighted for you. What a fabulous, fabulous update.

Just two things I want to say to you as someone who has been through something very similar: one - you're probably going to panic every single time your baby has a cold for a while. Your GP (if they are anything like mine was) will be kind and sympathetic and reassuring.

And two - by the time Henry is running around at nursery, chatting away and laughing, you will have put it to the back of your mind and it will be a memory that no longer has any power in your present.

ThanksThanksThanks

That's fantastic news. I am glad that he has bounced back so well. Enjoy all the precious moments with him. I agree. When my DD was is SCBU and in hospital in France a few months later, the nurses went over and above the call of duty on each case and made it all so much easier.

Kakser · 20/09/2021 21:46
