And did they sleep better or worse? In 2 minds when to make the transition!

When they climb out of the cot.

I wouldnt change unless you need the cot for a siblings arrival etc

EmmaJR1 · 28/06/2021 12:19

As above!

I think it was around 18 months for both of mine.

Watching them cock a chubby leg over the side via a baby monitor is scary!

Londonlady92 · 28/06/2021 12:37

DD is 2.5 and doesn't climb out but wonder if the sudden night waking is due to not enough space? Not sure?!

When they could climb out of the cot they went into a single bed with a roll out bar.
They slept better in the bed as there was more room.

DinosaurDiana · 28/06/2021 12:41

At 2.5 I’d definitely put them in a single bed.

olderthanyouthink · 28/06/2021 12:41

She never slept in the cot, I took the side off at 11 months so I could actually dump her in it. She doesnt tend to get out when she wakes just cries/shouts. Sleep was exactly as crap as before Grin

She's 2.5 now and supposed to be going into her own room and a toddler bed but that room is still a junk room/office atm.

KatherineOfGaunt · 28/06/2021 12:43

We took the sides off DS's need recently, at 2 1/2 years old. It was a nightmare - he just couldn't get used to being in his room so would come to the door constantly. Cue lots of late nights, no matter how hard I tried.

We put the sides back on. He can't climb out so we're just leaving him. He's asleep within 5 minutes again, bliss.

DinosaurDiana · 28/06/2021 12:45

I’ve just remembered, when they first went in the bed I put the cot next to the bed so that when they woke up they still saw the cot side and it still felt familiar.

Echobelly · 28/06/2021 12:46

DD it was about 2 and a half. It went well in our case as she was always a deep sleeper and liked her sleep, it didn't even seem to occur to her that now she wasn't in a cot, she could just get out any time she wanted, she waited for us to come to her in the morning usually. I think brother was a similar age when he got out of cot - we were in a flat with only 2 bedrooms at the time and they went into bunkbeds. Sleep stayed fine with him too.

BertieBotts · 28/06/2021 12:46

18 months for DS1. It worked for him. DS2 is nearly 3 and still in a cot. If it aint broke don't fix it!!

Camandmitch · 28/06/2021 12:48

Dd1 2.5

Dd2 is coming up to 3 and is still in a cotbed with the bars up. I don't want her roaming around Grin. I'll take them off when she works out how to climb out or asks me to

Londonlady92 · 28/06/2021 12:49

This is what I'm afraid of Blush

Our DD moved from cot to bed at just over 3! She wasn’t climbing out, was sleeping well and we didn’t have a younger sibling who needed the cot.

Winterfellismyhome · 28/06/2021 12:52

2 years 8 months for DS. He hasnt woken up in the night since

EmbarrassingMama · 28/06/2021 12:54

2 years 3 months, maybe? Straight from cot to full single.

thebattleofschrutefarms · 28/06/2021 12:55

About 2 years 8 months. He never climbed out and was sleeping through the night, I just decided to switch it when I probably should have left it. He started getting up and wandering around.

Peanut91 · 28/06/2021 13:01

At 2.5 when I climbed into the cot to settle my DS at 5 months pregnant and broke the cot!

gigi556 · 28/06/2021 13:02

I think around 2 🤔🤔🤔 It went hand in hand with potty training as I wanted DS to understand he could go to the toilet in the night if needs be.

Londonlady92 · 28/06/2021 13:13

So it could either help the night waking or make everything 10x worse? Grin

SpacePug · 28/06/2021 13:20

Moved mine at 2 years 4 months, he slept worse at first when he knew he can get out of bed to play. But now he's back to sleeping great, and he loves his bed

ConfusionIsNothingNew · 28/06/2021 13:27

DD went into a full size single (with sides) at 2.1. Her sleep was poor anyway so we thought she way as well transition then as we wouldn't be losing anything!

She slept better straight away; saying that we had about 6 months of her getting out of the bed in the middle of the night but after the novelty wore off she's currently doing great at 2.9 sleeping through.

Londonlady92 · 28/06/2021 16:15

Did you use a bed guard?

OP posts:
BakewellGin1 · 28/06/2021 16:28

DS is 2 yrs 4 mth and just gone into a toddler sized bed.

So far he is sleeping better due to not putting legs through bars etc.

EmmaJR1 · 28/06/2021 20:08

My son is now 4 and still sleeps in a cot sized bed. Both my children went through a sleep regression at 3 years - multiple night wakings for about 8 weeks or so.... 🧟‍♀️ zombie is not the word!
