At what age did you put your baby in their own room?

Exactly the title really, ds is 8 months old and starting to think about moving him to his own room 😊

When it feels like the right thing for him, I guess. Is current guidance after 6 months? Not up to date on these things.

I had DD in our room until she was 18 months old, but moved DS in to his own room at 7 months as he was a light sleeper and we woke him up every time we turned over in bed or got up to go to the loo etc.

Autumn13 · 15/03/2021 15:17

DD was moved in to her room at 6 months. She's almost 9 months now and doing great.

I found 6-9mths is a key time Todo this. Any earlier and you are up all night going to them, any later and they are aware that they have been moved. Also around 6-7 months, the benefit of sharing suddenly disappears as you both start disturbing each other. You will think OMG baby is awake so 9ften right now no way should I move them out but I swear that the volume of wake ups for all 4 of mine went from 8-10/night immediately to 0-2/night the moment I moved them out at 7 months.

11 weeks 😬. Although to be fair we still had a double bed in there and I used to sneak in and sleep in there overnight until he was about 6 months, so he wasn't alone. He just hated the next to me crib and didn't like to sleep if he knew anyone else was present! It was handy though as he was too young to really notice the change and he has slept through ever since!

Umm ... glad it worked out for you but it does contravene nhs guidance on safe sleep.
MrFlibblesEyes · 15/03/2021 15:47

@daisyoranges I said I slept in his room with him overnight every night until he was 6 months? It was just me sleeping in his room rather than him sleeping in mine!

daisyoranges · 15/03/2021 15:48

Ah - apologies Smile Flowers (own little monster had me up last night rather a lot!)

RogersVideo · 15/03/2021 15:49

DD was 6 months.

DS is 3 and still sleeps with us. Depends on the child!

Cindersrellie · 15/03/2021 15:50

4 months, sleep improved!

MrFlibblesEyes · 15/03/2021 15:51

@daisyoranges that's ok, I probably didn't articulate it very well 😁. Hope you have a better night tonight!

Mylittlesandwich · 15/03/2021 15:58

We've just moved DS out into his own room at 15 months. Just go with what feels right.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 15/03/2021 16:18

2 months. His sleep was way better.

SnuggyBuggy · 15/03/2021 16:20

I personally couldn't be bothered until mine started sleeping through.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 15/03/2021 16:21

3 weeks. And yes, am aware it contravened guidelines.

MeadowHay · 15/03/2021 16:21

About 16 months as she still woke in the night fairly frequently before then and didn't want to be going in and out of another room all the time.

Marpan · 15/03/2021 16:28

Age 2! When he started sleeping through!!!

ColdCottage · 15/03/2021 16:33

I moved both of mine at 15 months

CrazyKitkatLady · 15/03/2021 21:10

4 months, which was brilliant for 2 weeks, then the sleep regression hit and we’ve been bed sharing ever since, now she’s 8 months.

(I know that’s against the official advice but I was comfortable with the risk and am not interested in discussing it)

Goostacean · 15/03/2021 21:13

Like pp, we had a double bed in his room which I used to share with him (the room, and occasionally the bed although I hated cosleeping and never got proper rest when doing it) until he was just over 5 months old.

CreosoteQueen · 15/03/2021 21:14

I swear mine is going in his own room the literal second he hits six months. He’s like a howler monkey overnight with the amount of noise he makes.

Pootle40 · 15/03/2021 21:16

3-4 months for both.

Libertynan · 15/03/2021 21:17

5 weeks. This was, however, before the current guidelines were introduced.

None of us got any sleep when in the same room. Once he was in his own bedroom he slept pretty much through the night.

kowari · 15/03/2021 21:18

I think he was 8. He had a single bed in his own room from 5 but slept in with me for a few years longer.

Tatapie · 15/03/2021 21:20

6 weeks. That was 17 years ago! What is this sleep regression? Isn't that time for weaning? Clearly I'm out of date! Confused

Mayzee · 15/03/2021 21:21

No 1: 22 months when I was 7 months pregnant with her brother - had to make her think she wasn’t being pushed out for a new baby
No 2: I think about 15 months - it’s all a blur!
No 3: about 7 (Years)
