Who should buy the car seat?

I'm returning to work from Mat leave soon. Dm offered childcare on 1 week day for a few hours in the afternoon. She is the only childcare we have who drives as DMIL doesn't. We have an integrated isofix car seat in our own car so dropping off to DMIL isn't a problem.
My DM however, has her own car but doesn't have a car seat and will be picking up DS on said day for the afternoon, she has mentioned activities to do together which involves driving somewhere (obviously only once lockdown is lifted).

My question is - who should buy the car seat for her car?

You, you are getting free childcare. We bought car seats fro both sets of grandparents and we had twins!!

SomersetHamlyn · 06/02/2021 14:18

You.

Both our parents and parents in law bought themselves car seats for their cars... But we didn't ask them to. They thought it was easier once they were out of the baby seat stage.

However... These were pretty basic seats (the group 1-2 seats, no isofix). In our car the younger DD had a ERF seat.

If you want something fancy, you should definitely pay.

What everyone else said!

If you tell us the age of your baby, centiles for weight/height (if you know them) and which car your mum has, we could probably advise on suitable car seats that won't break the bank.

As a general rule, Joie seats are good value and have good safety ratings.

3JsMa · 06/02/2021 14:23

It's just 1 day!
Just put the car seat in your mum's car.
If not possible, buy second one if is needed.

Starseeking · 06/02/2021 14:28

We bought two car seats for my parents when they were doing regular childcare for our 2 DC. The DC is yours, therefore you pay.

SoupDragon · 06/02/2021 14:29

You. I thought this would be obvious.

Updatemate · 06/02/2021 14:29

You.

Joie steadi or tilt are good cheaper rear facing options. Or a Joie everystage if you've got more of a budget.

SoupDragon · 06/02/2021 14:30

The OP says in the first post We have an integrated isofix car seat in our own car So presumably swapping it isn't a viable option.

ElliFAntspoo · 06/02/2021 14:32

You.

To think otherwise is just selfish and ignorant. It is your child. You are not entitled to expect anything from other people for your own child.

ChelseaCat · 06/02/2021 14:32

@SoupDragon

The OP says in the first post We have an integrated isofix car seat in our own car So presumably swapping it isn't a viable option.
But the isofix just click out? It literally takes seconds.

OP, you should buy it

SimplyRadishing · 06/02/2021 14:33

You should.
HTH.

ChronicallyCurious · 06/02/2021 14:34

You

Arobase · 06/02/2021 14:34

Unless you're paying your mother, why would it be down to her?

HelloDulling · 06/02/2021 14:36

You should.

m0therofdragons · 06/02/2021 14:36

Odd that you can’t just click it out and into another car - my isofix did that so it’s hard to understand why a more modern version does not. If it doesn’t then you would buy the spare, obviously.

user1493413286 · 06/02/2021 14:37

You should; my mil bought a car seat for DD for her car but that was her choice as we didn’t have an issue with moving ours back and forth

Londontown12 · 06/02/2021 14:38

If she hasn’t mentioned getting one then maybe you should offer or she may be getting one anyway just have a chat about it , my MIL bought hers she really didn’t mind but she is such a fab MIL very lucky when my Dcs where small ☺️ X

1manwenttomow · 06/02/2021 14:40

You of course.
I'm unsure why you would even consider it be anyone else???

Herecomethedaffodils · 06/02/2021 14:40

I can't decide whether you are asking this question seriously? You're benefitting from free childcare and not only that, someone who is offering to take your child to activities while you work..... you pay!!!

Gwegowygwiggs · 06/02/2021 14:40

Is this a joke???????? Who should buy the car seat? UH - YOU OBVIOUSLY

SoupDragon · 06/02/2021 14:41

*But the isofix just click out? It literally takes seconds.6

Presumably it doesn't just click out of nothing and the car has to be compatible though?

lanbro · 06/02/2021 14:44

You should obviously offer to pay, although my dps and ils bought seats themselves, in fact my dps changed to a 7 seater as dsis was expecting at the same time! But if she doesn't offer you absolutely should if swapping your seat over isn't practical

JenIsAGem · 06/02/2021 14:49

Thank you, yes I was happy to buy the car seat regardless but DM was offering to pay for it herself, I'm a FTM and didn't know if there was a common thing for people to buy it for their own car. I'd always assumed it's my child so therefore I buy - happy this is the pretty much the only answer.

Now, let's check my bank account and get another seat 😂

My mum takes DD to nursery and we paid for the car seat.
