How much do you drink honestly?

Interested to hear how much people drink being honest.
I have been having 4 bottles of wine a week during the Christmas period and run up.
Prior to that I will have 2/3 glasses of wine 4/5 times a week.

Too much! I keep count and usually it’s about 20 units a week (2 bottles of wine). Over Christmas more like twice that. After we’re all back at work/school on Monday I’ll be drinking less though.

BeyondMyWits · 01/01/2021 21:30

Zero unless you count a box of cherries in kirsch covered in chocolate... which were really nice...

Cam2020 · 01/01/2021 21:37

I've had a glass of two of something every evening since chrsitmas day (my normal 'on holiday' behaviour). Generally I can go weeks without a drink and then have a G&T on a Friday and/or Saturday night for a few weeks, then back to nothing for a while. In summer if it's hot, I enjoy a cider.

I used to drink a lot more before being a parent but now it just tires me out and I'm so drained tbe next day it's not worth me having much very often.

I am alcohol dependent. Just out of a treatment programme.

I have an app that tracks my drinking days and over the last 14 months I have abstained from drinking on roughly one third of day, meaning I drink 66 per cent of the week, on average.

I would drink a minimum of one bottle of wine but in lockdown it crept up to the point that I could drink two, basically enabled by the fact that due to home schooling and wfh I no longer had to get up at 7am and drive anywhere.

I'm shocked at how quickly it escalated but also very happy to have been able to admit I had a problem and addressed it.

takeanotherlittlepieceofmycar · 01/01/2021 21:46

Tense was a bit all over the place because I am literally just out of an alcohol programme (finished yesterday Grin)

So I'm two days sober.

Those amounts are for when I did drink (getting used to that being in the past tense).

Tbh I'm shocked I abstained for a third of days because I felt like shit 100% of them. Have a massive wine belly and am 2 stone heavier than when I was in 2016 (when, incidentally, I was teetotal).

Thank you for being so honest. I'm glad you have found help and sounds like you are doing amazing. I can drink a bottle of wine on a Friday and then again on a Saturday night. I'm planning on cutting down in January like others have said, and only drinking weekends as opposed to in the week aswell. Do you know what damage is done as in do you have to drink excessively for 10/20 years to do damage to your liver that's irreversible?! I'm panicking my drinking habits over the last 6 months have done damage now :(

I am almost teetotal, I have had two units in the last six weeks, but it has been Christmas.

dottypees · 01/01/2021 21:50

Generally I'll have a couple of drinks about once a week, twice at the most. Either a couple of glasses of wine, or couple of large G&T. I hate the feeling of being properly drunk and tend to bypass the Merry part and go from relatively sober to feeling sick so I'm just not a very effective drinker!

takeanotherlittlepieceofmycar · 01/01/2021 21:50

JC it's wrecked my weight and was really messing with my mental health.

Health wise I don't know because I was the same when younger but then had about five periods of 9 months abstinence over 7 years and when I had bloods etc my liver function was always fine (though liver function tests aren't infallible).

I've always been a runner, though, very active lifestyle despite being a pisshead. I think that's part of the reason I've got away with it health wise(so far).

takeanotherlittlepieceofmycar · 01/01/2021 21:51

The liver has amazing abilities to recover if you abstain. I doubt you're in trouble if you stop it now.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 01/01/2021 21:52

Loads this year, it’s been like a 9 month all inclusive hols with food and booze. It all stops Monday.

netstaller · 01/01/2021 21:52

Maybe a glass of gin and tonic if it's a zoom call or something. To be honest with a toddler and baby I can't be arsed with a hangover so the appeal is gone.

Mustbethewine · 01/01/2021 21:54

Occasionally a bottle of wine 9n the weekend. Has been a lot more since the 23rd of December, usually a couple of glasses a night 😬

AlwaysLatte · 01/01/2021 21:57

Too much! My husband normally makes a wicked but strong G&T while we're preparing supper and then we usually have wine with it. Afterwards he has brandy or port, although I don't tend to. We've decided to drink just two days a week after the festivities. We sometimes have a month or so off so I'm sure we can manage that. It can become a habit, so I'll be glad to break that.

OverByYer · 01/01/2021 21:58

@takeanotherlittlepieceofmycar well done on getting help and your honesty. I don’t drink if I have work ( Mon - Fri) but I binge on a Friday- usually a bottle of something fizzy. Then another bottle on Saturday. I kid myself that it’s not too bad as I buy low alcohol wine ( 12% rather than 14-15).
Apart from that I lead a healthy lifestyle so try not to worry too much but I do.

mojitosfordays · 01/01/2021 21:59

@Angel2702

Usually a bottle of wine a week over the weekend. Over Christmas has been more.
Same
Fundays12 · 01/01/2021 22:03

Normally 2 to 3 nights a week and generally 1.5 bottles of wine in total per week. I need too start buying boxes as I keep wasting wine.

I have drank more over Christmas probably around 3 bottles of wine, a couple of glasses baileys and a couple of glasses of G&T. I am doing dry Jan now though as I feel rubbish and bloated. DH is having a whiskey but he is still in holiday.

WanderingMilly · 01/01/2021 22:03

Nothing, I don't drink alcohol.
I don't have anything against alcohol, it's just that it makes me really ill even taking a few sips....and I can tell you, I've tried several different sorts (wine, spirits, champagne, beer) all with the same result.
I can just manage brandy sauce with the Christmas pudding though, that's about my limit....!

IdblowJonSnow · 01/01/2021 22:06

One or two drinks 4 or 5 nights a week. Or maybe a bit less.
If out for dinner, in ye olden pre covid days then more.

ContadoraExplorer · 01/01/2021 22:14

Not much at all these days, we might open a bottle of wine with dinner occasionally and we'll have a glass then one the following night to finish the bottle but that's definitely not every week. We had a bottle between us last night and one gin and I felt rank this morning - it's just not worth it.

Mylittleturkeysandwich · 01/01/2021 22:21

I've drank more over Christmas and new year but it's still not a lot. I've had a bottle of wine and a wee baby bottle of Prosecco. I'd probably drink more often but it's in the back of my mind that there might be an emergency and as the only driver I need to have not consumed alcohol.

Geordieoldgirl · 01/01/2021 22:21

I love wine but it is very easy to get into the habit of having too much. In order to try to keep it under control Monday to Thursday I have nothing at all. Friday, Saturday and Sunday I almost always have half a bottle of red each night. But I am Trying to get it down to a third of a bottle per night on my drinking nights. I never drink during the day (unless it is a toast at a wedding!) or the early evening.

Haggertyjane · 01/01/2021 22:28

Don't drink alcohol much. Maybe once every 6 months. Don't like the taste much, too calorie laden, gives me a headache and makes me sleep badly. Not worth it.

legalseagull · 01/01/2021 22:29

The recommended amount is 14 units a week max. You're drinking around 36.

I might drink one bottle over the course of the week. If I go for a night out (remember those?) I might drink a whole bottle to myself Blush
