How much do you drink honestly?

Interested to hear how much people drink being honest.
I have been having 4 bottles of wine a week during the Christmas period and run up.
Prior to that I will have 2/3 glasses of wine 4/5 times a week.

I don’t really drink - I had a glass of champagne last night and one on Christmas Day, but before that I can’t think of the last time I had a drink. Months, in all likelihood.

daisyjgrey · 01/01/2021 20:24

Over Christmas I had 1 gin on the 22nd with dinner in a restaurant, on Christmas Day I had 1 bucks fizz and 1 gin and on New Years Eve I had a gin and a glass of champagne, which collectively is probably the most I've had to drink within the space of a week for about a year.

Am contemplating a New Year's Day gin, but partly because there's fancy chocolate to go with it...

CassandraBarrett · 01/01/2021 20:25

Very little. A glass of wine if I'm out or we have company (ie never these days)
At Christmas l had a glass of wine with dinner and one g&t on two separate days

Roughly a bottle of wine a night - more at weekends, yes I drink a lot. I can go weeks without drinking when I want to - I did 8 weeks without alcohol up to the 3rd week of December. Will do Dry January (and maybe February) - have a stone to lose and not drinking is the easiest way to shift the weight.

Lily193 · 01/01/2021 20:27

Very little over the past 7 years since I started to take my health seriously. I had two glasses of champagne and two mulled wines over Christmas, nothing before that since March. Even that had an effect on my skin I didn't like.

rosegoldwatcher · 01/01/2021 20:29

All of my drinking is done honestly!

None of it is hidden and all of it is paid for.

wintertime6 · 01/01/2021 20:30

My drinking got out of control last year, although I've had an unhealthy relationship with alcohol for years. I was up to about 6 bottles of wine a week, 2 during the week and maybe 4 over the weekend. DH might have had a glass or two but probably no more than half a bottle over the course of a week.

I took a couple of weeks off in November and was feeling great, but I got back into bad habits leading up to Christmas.

I'm giving Dry January a go, currently sitting enjoying a cup of tea and looking forward to waking up feeling fresh tomorrow.

MissingLinker · 01/01/2021 20:33

I don't think I know anyone in real life who doesn't drink, maybe older relatives who've been told to stop for medical reasons but I'm pretty sure most of them continued regardless...

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 01/01/2021 20:33

Nothing really.
I had 2 glasses of Asti at Christmas but before that was the Christmas before.

user1471549213 · 01/01/2021 20:35

Maybe a bottle of wine a month. Even before kids i wouldn't have been a big drinker. Maybe half a bottle a week back then. Big change from my drinking days of out 4 nights a week drinking 10 bottles of beer possibly.

I dont enjoy how it affects my sleep or if I'm groggy the next day.

Also husbands parents were very dependent on alcohol and it ruined them. We are very conscious for that not to happen in our family.

'What's the point in coming on here to write 'nothing' 🙄'

You asked people to be honest. If you only wanted to hear from drinkers you should have said that.

AliasGrape · 01/01/2021 20:37

Pre getting pregnant I could go weeks without a drink quite happily, never drank in the week and not that often at weekends - sometimes one or two. But if there was a special occasion, boozy lunch with friends, night out or I just felt like it for whatever reason I could quite happily have plenty - at least a bottle of wine to myself if not cocktails etc too. Likewise on holiday or over Christmas I’d drink more.

Still didn’t drink at all the first 4 months since having DD. This last month I’ve started having the odd glass of wine here and there, and I’ve had one of those pre mixed bottles of G&T but I had it over two nights. Last night for New Year’s Eve I had half a bottle of cava and I’ve honestly felt absolutely shit ever since, tried to have another glass with lunch today but it just wouldn’t go down. I don’t know whether my tolerance is gone for good or whether I’ll get back to how I was.

I definitely find it hard to relax with a few drinks knowing I’m probably going to get woken up at least once in the night and if not then definitely very early in the morning. I also really don’t like the idea, if DH are both going to have a drink, that there isn’t one sober parent in the house - I think things like ‘what if something were to happen and we needed to drive dd to hospital?’ That’s possibly me being a bit of an anxious first time mum.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/01/2021 20:39

I think the OP should have said “of those that drink, how much...”.

It’s pointless for her to hear from people who don’t drink.

Shelby30 · 01/01/2021 20:40

Had a drink last night and today and that was the first in many months. Don't really like the taste unless it's cocktails. I also can't handle my drink and I'm often sick if I have 4/5 drinks.

Iusedtobecarmen · 01/01/2021 20:41

I agree these threads are always ridiculous(i dont mean you OP) as teetotallers jump in to brag how they dont drink or ppl come to say they have one glass of wine at xmas
Think the OP is asking regular drinkers how much they have.
According to mumsnet, most posters go months without a single drink..not my experience with ppl i know in real life, but thats the same with everything on here.

I drink probably 4 or 5 nights a week, depending on work pattern.
Habe probably half a bottle wine a night. Weeknds if im.not working next day i will have several shorts too.
Christmas is a free for all and i drink what i like evey day im off work. Same with summer hols etc

I love having a drink and can and do stop when i have to.

timeforawine · 01/01/2021 20:43

Usually 3-4 glasses on a Tue/Fri and Saturday, over Christmas it's been 3-4 glasses a night. As of Sunday having a drink detox for a few weeks and starting back on 16:8

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 01/01/2021 20:46

If you only wanted people who actually drink too answer then you should have said so Hmm

I'm not teetotal, but for me drinking is a social thing. And as a single parent I don't have anyone to drink with. So I don't.

TrufflyPig · 01/01/2021 20:47

I don't drink on week nights at all. Weekends I'll have about 3 drinks on a Friday and Saturday night. I purchase wine from a wine club so usually drink that, sometimes a gin, Baileys at Christmas.

I used to be a proper binge drinker in my youth though, like off my face every weekend.

AWryGiraffe · 01/01/2021 20:47

2 drinks an evening usually, a spirit with a mixer. Probably large ones, I don't measure. On a weekend, maybe I'll have a third. I find with wine it's really easy to drink too much, and with Prosecco I could easily drink the whole bottle and feel a bit fuzzy headed the next day. This is LOADS less than I used to drink before having my now 2 year old. So I feel happy with that.

It's part of my switching off for the night routine. Probably not too healthy but I'm not concerned.

Saylethewayles · 01/01/2021 20:49

How is it "bragging" to say I don't really drink because I don't like it Confused.

It isn't bragging at all, it's just something about me that is true. I couldn't give a shit that other people do drink.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 01/01/2021 20:49

I'm a regular drinker op. I make an effort to keep it below 20 units per week, but this goes out of the window at Christmas and on holiday. All the rest of the year I count the units.

JC17fj74 · 01/01/2021 20:52

Thanks for the replies everyone 😊
I'm sorry if my post was not clear, I assumed the question was self explanatory and asking people who actually do drink 'how much do you drink' not if you drink at all :)

OP posts:
Katieweasel · 01/01/2021 20:52

Used to go weeks, if not months, without having a drink. The first lockdown and the increased pressure at work took their toll and now I have a drink most evenings but only ever the one. I had a week off over Christmas and haven't had a single drink. Has made me realise that I need to start looking for another job.

maddiemookins16mum · 01/01/2021 20:54

Nothing. I used to drink a bottle twice a week, that increased, in the end I was downing up to three bottles a night on at least three nights a week.
I stopped in October 17. I was drinking myself to an early grave.

Mum2jenny · 01/01/2021 20:56

Far far too much, but it’s my decision, and I’m happy with it,
