How much do you drink honestly?

Interested to hear how much people drink being honest.
I have been having 4 bottles of wine a week during the Christmas period and run up.
Prior to that I will have 2/3 glasses of wine 4/5 times a week.

I will buy a bottle of wine on a Friday and then have one glass an evening until it’s
finished (usually by Tuesday) and then wait until Friday to get another one. On a night out (rare these days) will have two drinks an evening but stop after that. I’m a bit of a lightweight and more than two drinks makes me feel really sick. One really good glass is great though: all the enjoyment without the pain!

Pukkapiesrule · 01/01/2021 20:59

Honestly, me & hubby can easily have a couple of beers & then 2 bottles of wine between us 5 nights out of 7. Not entirely happy that we drink that much & think we need to cut down for weight & health purposes, but drinking is so easily done!

SweetPetrichor · 01/01/2021 21:00

I have a gin occasionally - maybe one every couple of months. I’ve never liked drinking much. My parents drank a socially acceptable amount every weekend growing up and I dreaded it. My parents are awesome, I love them dearly, but that very British bad alcohol habit they had made me grow up with a negative association with alcohol. I didn’t want to be that sort of person. I’ve only ever had one or two drinks at a time. Never been drunk. I could give up alcohol right now and not give it a second thought.

T total since I had my son 4 years ago
And never really drank much before that either

Fungster · 01/01/2021 21:02

Same as you OP. I'm actually doing dry January because it's certainly contributed to my massive weight gain during lockdown.

Shmithecat2 · 01/01/2021 21:02

Way too much. I'm doing dry January now. Never done it before. 😬

Fungster · 01/01/2021 21:04

For those of you who don't drink alcohol, what do you drink in social situations? I'm not a big pop drinker and drinking water just seems a bit joyless.

5zeds · 01/01/2021 21:04

4 or 5 units a month. It’s not important to me

Mumtoalittlegirl · 01/01/2021 21:05

Nothing at all! For several years. I’m always so shocked at how much people drink.

I really dislike feeling drunk and how ill it makes me, not to mention how you cope looking after children the day afternoon. I also think it messes with your mental health and can ruin your skin.

I think maybe it’s because I got all my drinking out the way in teens, early 20’s. I’m 30 this year and the only thing I want is a tea party. Smile

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 01/01/2021 21:05

It used to be loads. I was married to a drinker, from a family of drinkers, and in a culture of social drinking / drunkenness. Over time excessive drinking - even when in charge of dc - became the norm, because it was what everyone around us was doing. We’d easily share a bottle of wine on weeknights, maybe two, and more on weekends, spirits as well.
And in the end I just didn’t want to do it anymore. My mental health was in the toilet, and I knew I was self medicating with more and more alcohol, but feeling worse. For a while I didn’t drink at all, now I have maybe one G&T on the weekend. I’ve had a few drinks over Christmas / new year, but nothing like I used to drink. I don’t have the tolerance for it anymore (which is probably a good thing) and I certainly don’t miss starting the new year with a hangover.

Ninkanink · 01/01/2021 21:08

Last couple of months: 2 glasses of wine 3-4 nights a week. Or a couple of beers, or a glass of Bailey’s, or 2 small glasses of port. More when we’ve had people over or been visiting over Christmas. Last night DH and I shared a bottle of champagne.

I’ve got another week or 2 of drinking as and when I feel like it, then I will stop altogether for 2 or 3 weeks, and after that I will tone it right down and probably only have a glass or 2 twice a week, if that. I play it by ear, so if I start feeling like I have to have one to be able to wind down of an evening, I cut right back or stop altogether for a few months. There are lots of other nice things to drink so there’s actually no need to have alcoholic drinks all the time.

My main motivation is my weight/health & especially keeping my face looking nice. Secondly if I get into a habit of having too much too often it really impacts negatively on my sleep.

sockywock · 01/01/2021 21:08

1-2 small glasses of wine maybe four nights a week - maybe five if I'm having a stressful time!

yahyahs22 · 01/01/2021 21:08

Find it odd we put poison in our bodies to feel dizzy and dumb. I hate it

My friends aren’t drinkers or the night out types. We’d rather go for coffee. If it’s a meal I love mocktails!

I think if you’re drinking to try to be more social and confident it might be a challenge, but if you’re someone who just likes to spend time with family/ close friends it’s not really an issue.

Ninkanink · 01/01/2021 21:11

Oh, I didn’t mention whisky, brandy or gin - I haven’t had any over the Christmas season other than in Christmas cake & pudding. That’s quite unusual! But we didn’t have our favourite cognac this year so there wasn’t any of my favourite drink to hand, and I mainly drink gin & tonic in the summertime.

Bourbonbiccy · 01/01/2021 21:11

I don't drink, my hubby will have a pint after bedtime with our son while we watch a bit of something on TV

latheritup · 01/01/2021 21:13

None.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 01/01/2021 21:13

@Fungster I’m in a pub not drinking I order something like j2o. If it’s like a bbq at friends and bring a drink, I usually take nice fruit juice, or that elderflower stuff, or you can make a nice mocktail with apple juice and ginger beer.

Franticbutterfly · 01/01/2021 21:16

In the last 14 months I have drunk alcohol on 7 occasions, 4 of those times I had 1-2 drinks, the other 3 times a fair bit more than that.

EternalOptimist7 · 01/01/2021 21:17

Way too much! I quit for several years & really regret starting again as I have piled on loads of weight. It’s so easy for it to escalate. My life can be very stressful so alcohol is a prop but of course I know it doesn’t help in the long run.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 01/01/2021 21:20

I'm not tee total anymore fungster but I was for about a year several years ago and if I went to the pub I'd drink fruit juice, tonic water, or alcohol free beer. I had 2 friends who were always massive dicks about it and would constantly be on my case about having a drink, but every body else's respected my choice and it was never an issue. Funnily enough I just stopped going out with those 2 friends!

Foghead · 01/01/2021 21:20

None here too. Too many calories and I can’t deal with the rubbish feeling the next day.

Whatdidyoucallme · 01/01/2021 21:22

I think the last time I had alcohol was in March 2020 so pretty much 0

FippertyGibbett · 01/01/2021 21:22

I usually have 3/4 bottle of wine 2 or 3 nights a week. Never the night before work.

frenchfancy81 · 01/01/2021 21:24

2 or 3 bottles of wine a week or 2 bottles of wine and a few spirits with mixers a week.
