Toddler son has got red raw bum from diarrhoea - HELP

Hello experienced mummies, my toddler has caught a bug and his diarrhoea got so bad today that he is getting so sore. He poops about 5-6 times a day and it's watery. Now even before we take the nappy off he is so scared because it seems to hurt so much. It's tears all the way through and it's so unlike him,
he's usually such a tough cookie, falls over and hurts himself, hands bleeding, big bruise on head but no tears.

Is there a certain cream you recommend? I know it'll get better but when your child is hurting you want to do anything to make them feel better.

Smother the area with sudocream and then a load of Vaseline to seal the sore area and stop anymore irritation. It makes a bit of a slimy mess but a GP recommended it to me once and it works amazingly well.

Get Metanium rather than sudocream in my opinion. We used to call it the miracle cream! Dries it right out.

Metanium! Amazing stuff. Poor thing hope it's better soon.

Metanium nappy rash treatment cream (it’s yellow) is the best in the business. Apply at night if you can, so it has a few hours to walk. Wipe his bum with water not baby wipes where possible too.

Pickypolly · 12/11/2020 19:16

Sudocrem, brilliant stuff.
Let him play in the bath, give it a soak in the warm water, make sure you dry him properly then lots of sudocrem.
Give him some baby paracetamol for the pain as well.

Is he drinking plenty of fluids and otherwise well in himself?

burntpinky · 12/11/2020 19:17

Metanium for sure. It heals it whereas sudocrem is more of a barrier

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 12/11/2020 19:18

Another vote for Metanium

Thereshegoesagain · 12/11/2020 19:18

Also agree with Metanium. My daughters bottom used to go from normal to bleeding after one poo, particularly when she had a cold. Metanium was like a miracle cure.

SamVimesFavouriteDragon · 12/11/2020 19:19

Metanium! We use the aveda one mostly, it's fantastic, but when DS has been poorly, the metanium is so much better! I think it's medicated, so I wouldn't use all the time, but it's fairly cheap and a little goes a long way, so it's well worth a try

bunintheoven88 · 12/11/2020 19:19

Yep Metanium is amazing, you will see a difference in just one application

ArtfulScreamer · 12/11/2020 19:19

Yep if you haven't already got the gist metanium is what you need.

ShowOfHands · 12/11/2020 19:20

Aah metanium. Brings back memories. Far better than Sudocrem and works so quickly.

minnie465 · 12/11/2020 19:20

Another vote for metanium. And make sure his bum is kept as dry as possible. Use a warm water and cotton wool to clean bum and dry well with a Muslin

Doublechins · 12/11/2020 19:21

Another metanium fan here

GaraMedouar · 12/11/2020 19:21

I came on to say Sudocrem - but it appears I missed out on the wonders of metanium! Not heard of that one Smile

Mummysgonetobed · 12/11/2020 19:22

Yellow metanium, genius stuff, works really quickly.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 12/11/2020 19:24

Metanium
Rinse bum in the bath with the shower instead of wiping

Oblomov20 · 12/11/2020 19:24

Metanium. Best stuff.

BigButtons · 12/11/2020 19:27

Metanium- nothing better. I have 6 kids.

Margaritawithlime · 12/11/2020 19:27

Op just to say if it’s no better tomorrow give the GP a call and ask for something. My DS had timodine prescribed for some wicked nappy rash which metanium didn’t help. Just as an FYI as it’s Friday tomorrow and nobody wants the little pet to suffer all weekend. Good luck. Hope the metanium cracks it

Strokethefurrywall · 12/11/2020 19:28

Another for yellow Metanium. And just to reiterate how amazing this stuff is, I live 4000 miles away and used to have it sent over and buy in bulk when my kids were little and I'd visit family in UK.

DS1 got salmonella when he was 3 which left his entire butt silver raw because his uncontrollable acidic diarrhea meant he had to wear diapers. The only thing that worked on my poor sobbing kid was Metanium.

Now my kids are older so I've taken to handing out tubes to friends with new babies. Every single one has messaged when they've had to use it to say it's a damn miracle cream.

BigButtons · 12/11/2020 19:29

My kids are much older now but I stir have metanium- great for spots, cuts all sorts.

SusannahD · 12/11/2020 19:30

Metanium Nappy Rash Ointment is the best for this.

Lotsofpots · 12/11/2020 19:30

Voice of dissent here. Metanium didn't work on my son (raw and bleeding). Tried everything and eventually gave balmonds lavender balm a go and it cleared it up within 24hrs. Never without it now, as it's amazing on DS1 who gets chapped skin around his mouth.

Am always a bit embarrassed as it's a bit hippy and woo which I'm definitely not.

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/11/2020 19:30

If you're heading out to the supermarket I'd get metanium and bepanthen. Both excellent, a mixture of them and he'll be grand in no time.
