I'm sat listening to my ds play and one minute he's fine and then the next he sounds like a 87 year old asthmatic... anyone else find this?

fefifofum · 20/10/2004 21:44

yes, he's my first cute as a button, but needs his bath and feed now so I'd better go.
Sure, you can all come and stay, just bring your sleeping bags and a bikini...

Fennel · 20/10/2004 21:48

bikini? not for a good while yet I suspect. do mums in bermuda not get fat having babies? Kaftan, more like.

Yes, but fat looks so much better when it has a tan, trust me, I know. Mind you, I haven't hit the beach much this summer as it was too hot to leave the air conditioning with ds so sparkly new. I know, I know, no sympathy coming my way but I can but try.

fefifofum · 20/10/2004 22:43

Or maybe you could just wear the sleeping bags to the beach....

hewlettsdaughter · 20/10/2004 22:45

Do you know, it had occurred to me we could all meet in Bermuda (in our dreams!)
Fennel - I've given dd the spoon with some food on - a bit went in by accident as it were. Not too worried yet - if I remember rightly, ds took a little while to stop the tongue pushing out thing. Am hoping dd will be eating better by the time she's at the childminder's though.

fefifofum · 20/10/2004 23:07

The Night Shift
You've probably/hopefully all gone to bed now, so seeing as I'm 4 hours behind I'll continue this thread by myself (and possibly answer my own questions) in an attempt to keep up with the Mays...
Are we supposed to still be sterilizing bottles and boiling water? GF says upto a year, and then the footnote says only to 3 months - for sterilizing that is.

handlemecarefully · 20/10/2004 23:29

Poor Dolbear - I hope baby gives you a better night sleep soon! Congrats on the banana eating ! - btw my ds has been a similar fussy eater avoiding savoury food in his case, but I peservered and feed him 2/3 mouthfuls of fromage frais interspersed with one of savoury. Basically by doing this he gradually learnt to 'trust' savoury food and now eats most of my savoury recipes without too much fuss...so, in short yes if I were you I would be a little bit tougher....(but not to the point where he is really gagging and crying / looking cross of course!)

Fennel - thanks for asking...my docs appointment should have been yesterday but I cancelled it because the tingling has resolved in my feet and my left hand, and only my right hand gets pins and needles now....so I figured it couldn't be anything serious

What do you guys think of this? Dh wants us to go on holiday to Dubai in Feb. I think it will be too complicated because at 10 months ds will not be eating 'easy' food (like fishfingers, pizza and other junk that I often feed to his older sister , and he will still need to be salt restricted and have mushy food. Ds won't touch savoury jars of food (I don't blame him and I don't force the issue because IMO they taste like old socks), but he will eat sweet jars of food and some of my homecooked savoury recipes. So essentially if we went to Dubai in Feb he would be living on sweet jars of food for every meal and have no savoury option, and I would rather holiday when ds is fractionally older and thus easier to feed with whats on restaurant menus. Frankly I don't think that's good. Dh says that I am finding reasons not to go and that I am being awkward and inflexible - your honest opinions please girls.

handlemecarefully · 20/10/2004 23:32

I should have previewed, my " I don't think that's good" sentence should have come directly after the bit about living on only sweet food for a week.

handlemecarefully · 20/10/2004 23:36

Fefifofum (may I call you FFFF? ), I'm still up but not for much longer....

I actually thought that it was sterilise bottles until 6 months old - but I may be mistaken. Rationale is that by 6 months they are invariably putting all sorts of unsterilised crap into their mouths anyway (and that's just my cooking!) such as toys etc

dolbear · 20/10/2004 23:40

have had a few glasses of wine so excuse the bad typing , mmm sounds aticky one HMC and ta for the sympathy ! know what u mean on the savory jars - they smell yuk ,
can you not perhaps take the powder ? and mis it up ? it is teh richest country in the world , maybe they can do u something out there ?
dolbear

dolbear · 20/10/2004 23:42

re serilised - had not even thought of that ha ha , have been religiously serilising bottle etc , not even relising that ds is eating everything he sees , i am such a wally at times , ds also discovered rusks , messy but effective

fefifofum · 21/10/2004 01:16

Dolbear, I think you have managed to come up with some cool new adjectives, love 'aticky one'!

FFFF is fine!

I had thought about the fact that they are shoving everything in their mouths - but can't... quite..seem ..to ..stop...sterilizing!

As for Dubai, HMC, I know there are a lot of expats out there which usually means expat friendly food/supermarkets. Will you be selfcatering or hotel? Either way, there will be fresh fruit and veg available I'm sure. I know it's a worry, but it might be okay. How long might y ou go for?

SusiS · 21/10/2004 07:50

peeking around corner

milkbottles sterilise up to 1year - everything else not necessary from 6months on; just clean it very well; best dishwasher (water should be as hot as possible)

and lunavix: don't worry about your "big" baby! my ds is above the top blue line (centile) but heightwise too - and he just looks lovely

i better head back to our may thread - and stop boosting yours

lunavix · 21/10/2004 09:04

Welcome FFFF!
I'm still sterelising religiously, and didn't even consider the dirty stuff he sticks in his mouth. Bottles don't seem really clean unless theyre sterelised as well IMO, theyre always milky n scummy.
YG - DD is crawling? if i put ds on his tummy he wails and gives me puppy dog eyes..

Chuffed · 21/10/2004 09:27

We're still sterilising the milk bottles and the cool boiled water bottle only. Everything else gets washed well and then blanched with a touch of freshly boiled water before use.
HMC we went to Egypt in September and used jars/plastic containers of food for dd for 10 days. I did quite a lot of experimenting and found there were a few things she liked a lot more than others.
The Heinz simply fruit actually do a couple of savoury options that dd likes. Some of the organix ones went down quite well. She didn't like the babynat ones at all but unfortunately it is a bit of trial and error and she did eat quite a lot of the same food. Totally do-able for us holidaying in a non-westernised country but every situation is different of course. Your ds might not mind a few of the savoury options available in jars/containers by Feb.
Good night's sleep last night - bless medised!

Chuffed · 21/10/2004 09:28

ooohhh welcome FFFF. I think bermuda would be a fab place to have our get together...now what were those lottery numbers again.

dot1 · 21/10/2004 09:48

HMC - I think I'd just be put off by the hassle of going that far away - the furthest we've got to on holiday is North Wales..!! How long are you going for? I reckon you could probably take savoury for the first couple of days - if you take ice cubes in a cool bag? And then it might have to be buying a few carrots and mashing them up??!

Nightmare - we haven't been on a plane since ds1 was born, and probably won't go abroad for the next few years now - I get stressed enough packing for a day trip out..!

dolbear · 21/10/2004 09:59

today peep , I am going for broke !!! ah ha !
we are trying porrige and weetabix ( mixed with p -f - cunning )
then......then for luch we are going 4 the heinz simply broc and cauli --- I am not afraid !
i am the mum and i will prevail , if no one hears from me for 2 hours send in the searcha parties !!!! tee hee

Chuffed · 21/10/2004 10:12

good luck dolbear...dd liked the simply broc and cauli.

dot1 · 21/10/2004 10:15

fingers crossed dolbear! We saw an ad for Oats so simple last night, and remembered that ds1 really liked it as a baby! So we're going to try ds2 with it - as a change from Weetabix as we think he's getting fed up with it (so would I after having it every morning for the past 2 months!!!)

fefifofum · 21/10/2004 11:15

Good luck dolbear - I need to get my skates on re: solids. DS has woken us up again this morning at 5am starving hungry, hopefully he'll realise soon that he needs to eat. We're going for sweet potato and apple today. I'm sure it will be usual struggle. Ho hum.

MrsDoolittle · 21/10/2004 13:07

Dolbear - your postings made me laugh.
I have been wondering, have any of the May mummies met up?

Chuffed · 21/10/2004 16:05

dolbear - how did it go?
