When did your baby start sleeping through the night?

Google says about 6-9 months old, but as a mom-to-be I'd rather read real stories and experiences.

What I mean by sleeping through the night is, when was the first 8 hour sleep you were able to get?

Reason I'm asking is, that will mark the time I can resume my previous exercise regimen, as sleep is an important part of recovery Grin

TIA Flowers

Last night, at 20 weeks. I dont think it will last, as lovely as it was.

Hangingtrousers · 04/08/2020 18:46

Dd1 10months after I night weaned.
Dd2 18 months and had to force the issue by sleep training.
Ds 9 months (a rare unicorn baby that got it by himself!)

Mine has been through phases of sleeping through and not tbh. She first did about 6 months for a good few weeks and then regressed back to several wakings again until about 15 months. She would sleep through occasionally but her sleep was definitely negatively impacted by illness and teething. She’s 22 months now and sleeping through most of the time but even now we get the odd wake up here and there.

My little one is 6 months old and hes only slept an 8 hour stretch about 5/6 times since he was born 😂😂xx

Hardbackwriter · 04/08/2020 19:05

Eight months, which is when we sleep trained. He had never slept more than four hours in a row before that, usually two.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 04/08/2020 19:06

With regards to exercise though - before baby I was a national level weightlifter - I trained every day and tightly controlled my diet.

My advice would be that you just need to accept that you (probably) wont be getting a chunk of unbroken sleep for a significant amount of time (unless you have a unicorn sleeping baby), and to start training again anyway. I have, and its not so bad. Your body adjusts.

Third child and she got it at just shy of 6 months. Parented exactly the same as the first 2 who both took 12 months +
They get there when they get there. Don’t stress, just be really consistent with putting them to sleep just that little bit awake. Good luck!

Wolfgirrl · 04/08/2020 19:13

4 months old when she first slept through, sleeping through reliably by 6 months. I got lucky I think.

pancakes22 · 04/08/2020 19:15

Currently 13 months and still waking 4x a night

MozzarellaMonster · 04/08/2020 19:17

DS1 around about a year
DD 3 months but she's only 4 months now so not counting my chickens it will last 😬

ILoveStickers · 04/08/2020 19:17

She did it a few times around five months, then not for ages, then regularly from 9 months.

By which I mean 11ish hours continuous. She did lots of 8+ hours, but it still involved broken sleep for me (eg. 7pm - 3am, 3.30 - 5.00, 5.15 - 6.45...). Eight hours for her was not eight hours for me!

GenevaMaybe · 04/08/2020 19:17

DD1, 12 weeks
DD2, 6 months

Whatthebloodyell · 04/08/2020 19:20

Child one, 7 months ish, 1 year consistently.

Child two, age 3. But still sometimes wakes me up now at 4.

birdybirdbird · 04/08/2020 19:22

Occasionally (twice a week ish) from 16 months. From about 18 months he’s done 7-7 pretty consistently.

Orangedaisy · 04/08/2020 19:24

Dd1 - 2 years.
DD2 - 2.5 years but still up once a night more nights than not at 3.

Cheesecakejar · 04/08/2020 19:25

13 months, he's going through a phase of waking at 5.30am now at 20 months though 🙈

DelurkingAJ · 04/08/2020 19:25

Errr...DS1 when he started school, DS2 had a sweet patch at 3 and is now variable.

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 04/08/2020 19:27

14 months

Ihaveoflate · 04/08/2020 19:27

5 months

troppibambini · 04/08/2020 19:28

1st- 10 weeks
2nd- 6 months
3rd- 8 weeks
4th- 4 years

It really is luck of the draw.

troppibambini · 04/08/2020 19:29

Should have said that was 7-7 with a dream feed (except the 4 year old)

RollercoasterRaver · 04/08/2020 19:29

DD3 still doesn't. We get about one every 3 weeks :-)

ConfusionIsNothingNew · 04/08/2020 19:30

DD slept like a dream from about 12 weeks.

This lasted until she was about 15 months and then it all went to shit. She's almost 2 now and sleeps through maybe once a week if we're very lucky.

There's no way you can predict it unfortunately.

gettingusedtothelimelight · 04/08/2020 19:30

My DD slept 11-6 from 6 weeks. Mind you everything else along the years was crap 😂

ArtemisBean · 04/08/2020 19:31

19 months. He still wakes up at least once a week even now five months later.
