haven't got period yet so it's unlikely to do too much except make me smile.
lots of practising going on I wondered if those of you who have got their period did anything in particular to bring it on.

LucyJones · 13/10/2004 16:13

Wow I'm impressed your ready to do it all again! I've gone back on the pill so no help with the period question but if you're still b/f you will be very fertile anyway. Go girl

Chuffed · 13/10/2004 16:24

dolbear · 13/10/2004 17:40

have got ds bug and spent last night talking 2 the loo , can not remebr the last time so ill and not be drink related.
did read gina Ford , but TBH she scared me just reading her !!

Chuffed · 13/10/2004 18:33

oh dolbear may you sleep well tonight. I got scared reading Gina Ford as well. dh and I both read it and both said no way can we do this. We both read baby whisperer and took it in and I suppose do a bit of both although when dd was really little we probably did more baby whisperer than anything else. A bit of GF is coming through now I suppose.

Chuffed · 13/10/2004 19:13

Just got this in the email and thought I'd share I thought it was great...
The Facts:

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it...don't
waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up
your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can
extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live
longer?
Take a nap.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled
wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you
get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of
grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have body fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!!. Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO ..... Cocoa beans ... another vegetable!!!
It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had
about food and diets and remember,

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather
to skid in sideways - beer in one hand - chocolate in the other

  • body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming - WOO HOO!
lunavix · 13/10/2004 19:35

Chuffed - is dd your first? ds is mine and i was clucky already when i was still in hospital!

Fennel · 13/10/2004 19:41

chuffed at the whale bit. I go swimming and certainly do feel a bit whalelike.

I did absolutely nothing to encourage my period back and am sulking massively. what's more it seems to have made my milk supply drop this week. it all seems to be in the wrong order somehow

dolbear - agree GF is scary. and immensely bossy. I read it to see what everyone else was going on about.

handlemecarefully · 13/10/2004 22:15

I don't like Gina Ford either - far too restrictive.

Hi Hunkermunker - fascinated by yours and Lunavix's 'downstairs' issues

Yorkiegirl - if your dd has really bad nasal congestion which is affecting her sleep (and more importantly yours) you can ask for a prescription for ephedrine nasal drops from your doctor. Its a decongestant that is safe to use for a baby. My ds had it when he was just 3.5 months old - and it did help.

MrsDoolittle · 13/10/2004 22:18

My period came back August 10 after I had cut down bf. Then again September 17 and now I am waiting for another. Dh is terrified I'm after number 2. Still, didn't stop him this morning
Actually we really can't afford number 2 yet.

Where's Kristina?

MrsDoolittle · 13/10/2004 22:19

Yorkiegirl - I put a pillow under dd's mattress when she was really coldy and I believe it helped.

KristinaM · 14/10/2004 00:10

Hi all ? I?m here ? just lurking! Not sure I have a lot to add to the current conversations ? DS isn?t on solids yet and is still BF. He can?t even sit up let alone read the Guardian. I can?t moan about work/childcare as I?m still a lady of leisure . And all my bits still seem to be working, despite my advanced age and ventous delivery ...But I AM finding you all very interesting?

sounds like a trip to the doctor is in order then yorkiegirl. Nasty coloured snot usually means an infection of some sort.
MrsD we can't really afford no.2 either but figure it'll be a little cheaper this time around as we have everything we'd need.
dh had some giggles at your comments on my wanting no.2 (he wants it just as much)

dot1 · 14/10/2004 09:20

eugh - we're all suffering here aswell - dp, me and ds2 have horrible snotty colds - I've been up since 5am with him (just when he got settled into a 6.30am routine aswell...) 'cos the poor thing just couldn't breathe with it. He fell back asleep in my arms after an hour (bless!), by which time ds1 was awake for the day...

So we're all a bit wobbly and I feel v. guilty for leaving dp, who sounds like she's on her death bed, with a lively toddler and poorly baby...

ds1 is also going through a really tricky phase at the moment - getting really really jealous again of ds2. Not sure why now in particular, but it's really hard to manage - Fennel - how are your older 2? Hope it's just a short phase...

And by the way ds2 is kind of a Gina baby, so we'll have no Gina slating here please!! Have to admit Gina was our lifeline for ds1 (more for us really - needed a routine!) and although it was much harder with ds2, we used about 60 - 70% of her routine, which again helped us. But maybe I shouldn't start a Gina conversation here as we all get on so well!!!!

hewlettsdaughter · 14/10/2004 09:27

Glad you had a better night YG - though commiserations re the snot. dolbear - are you feeling better?
Kristina - re your ds not reading the newspapers yet. If you don't want to join in the weaning/work conversations why not start a conversation of your own! How is ds sleeping? Are you clucky? (I'm not!)

hewlettsdaughter · 14/10/2004 09:28

Hi dot - posts crossed. Get well soon!

lunavix · 14/10/2004 09:28

We kind of followed Gina too, we were having problems with his feeds, he was eating all the time which on a bottle was a pain, so we regulated the feeds following her times and its worked a wonder.
He then slept much better, before he didn't know night from day.
We haven't followed the sleep times at all though, trying to tell a sleepy baby his nap time isn't for an hour and a half is just a waste of your own time :c)

Fennel · 14/10/2004 09:31

Kristina - I don't think we ever got your full birth story. would love to hear it. did you get induced in the end or did he start coming naturally

dot1- my 2 are actually fine with the baby. but I think this is mostly due to the fact there's been a new baby in our house every year for 4 years. dd1, then dd2 17 months later, then my neice was born 13 months later (dsis and partner lived with us for 3 years til we got too many last winter) and then dd3 18 months after that. so it's a bit of a recurrent theme.
one plus about popping them out at a fast rate is the jealousy level is often less. there are other disadvantages, obviously...

dolbear · 14/10/2004 09:52

wow fennel , busy house !
HLD - feeling MUCH better 2-day ta , both of us DH took day off , less and was soo knackered @ end of day , can't take the pace !
mm tried a bit of GF @ 1 time cos we were worried about sleep pattens , but u r right trying to wake a baby up when it don't want to - does not happen , don't care what they say , we actualy had ds upside down and he would not wake up !!
I found out I was og just as I finshed my last paper for mt 1st yr and the 2nd started in Feb - due in April - I din't think so !!!!

MrsDoolittle · 14/10/2004 10:24
