I always remember the paddling pool being freeeezing as a child. I put warm water in for the kids.

Yes.

Wtfdidwedo · 09/05/2020 19:14

The hose is cold so I normally chuck in some bowls of hot from the kitchen tap, but it doesn't make much difference. I normally try to fill it up first thing so it's warmer by lunchtime as my garden gets sun all day.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 09/05/2020 19:14

No we fill it first thing in a sunny spot and DS goes in it after lunch when it has warmed up.

Yep I've got an attachment that lets me use the hose on the kitchen tap, kids would be freezing after 10 mins otherwise!

ohcorona · 09/05/2020 19:21

Yep, normally about 30+ basins of got water traipsing to and from the kitchen. Think I'm going to try the previous suggestion of filling up in the morning and leaving in a sunny spot.

ohcorona · 09/05/2020 19:22

"Hot"

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/05/2020 19:23

Yup. My kid is going to be an awful wimp. Grin

TwistyHair · 09/05/2020 19:26

That’s what I was thinking @mrsterrypratchett I’m clearly much more tough from a childhood of cold water paddling pools.

Legoandloldolls · 09/05/2020 19:28

No I dont. It's part of the fun surely? Freezing cold water good to toughen them up...

Actually I dont really think about it as its from the outside tap. Poor kids.

Redwinestillfine · 09/05/2020 19:30

No. That's what the sun's for!

PickledLilly · 09/05/2020 19:30

I always carry buckets of warm water from the kitchen. Takes ages!

Whitelisbon · 09/05/2020 19:30

No. Its a long trek from the kitchen to the garden, and, from previous experience, you need a lot of buckets of hot water to make it even lukewarm.
New paddling pool yesterday, and the kids leapt in, then leapt straight back out screaming that it was cold Grin they didn't stay out for long, or complain much.
However, they were absolutely filthy last night - how, when they'd been in water pretty much all day? Hmm

AnotherMurkyDay · 09/05/2020 19:31

Depends how hot it is. On really hot days the sun heats the water up enough to take the edge of. Otherwise mostly cold but with a tiny bit of hot. When I was a kid it was cold from the house, and at the end of the day we would get the soap and shampoo out and get sprayed off with the hose before bed

userabcname · 09/05/2020 19:33

My mum always used to chuck in a few bowls of warm water for my brother and I. Dh just uses the hose which I think is too cold!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 09/05/2020 19:33

Yes,empty a kettle or two in. My dc are all 5 and under and the pool is only full a few inches so it just takes the edge off.

I didn't do it a fortnight ago and it resulted in the famous Hour of Whingeing, which is still remembered with dread in our house.

Springtime003 · 09/05/2020 19:34

Yes we put hot in too cold otherwise even on a hot day

TwistyHair · 09/05/2020 19:37

@AnotherMurkyDay the hose!

OP posts:
ilikebigbuttsandicannotlie · 09/05/2020 19:37

Yes, we half fill with the outdoor tap and then fill buckets of hot from the sink. It takes the edge off as if not, it’s bloody freezing. My mum used to do the same.

KTD27 · 09/05/2020 19:37

My friend has a solar panel thing she said it works a treat. I’m a hot water from the tap girl but I have to say I’m tempted

IncrediblySadToo · 09/05/2020 19:38

Yep, but I put a few inches in the bottom, put that in the sun, stretch the hose pipe out in the sun then add some kettles if boiling water if it still needs it. 'Cold' is good, 'absolutely fucking freezing!' Isn't nice

Obviously if it's a really hot day and if you put the water in early (just a bit & keep topping up with the warm water in the hosepipe) in it might not need it

DrWAnker · 09/05/2020 19:38

Yes, we have an adapter for the tap/hose so it's like a bath to begin. The older one also wears a wetsuit Grin.
My kids will be total wimps Blush.

TwistyHair · 09/05/2020 19:38

What was the Hour of Whingeing about @JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOf the pool being too cold?

OP posts:
SoloMummy · 09/05/2020 19:41

Even on the warmest days, without warm water they'd be freezing. Though my neighbour uses the hosepipe, filling at 7 and leaving in the sun to warm.

Random452 · 09/05/2020 19:43

Never even thought about using hot Grin
On a sunny day like today it warms up fast anyway.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/05/2020 19:50

Yes. We have a mixed hot/cold feed outside tap, ergo warm and just a straight cold tap.
