i have 4 kids and 1 step daughter,
dident really set out for that many, were going to stop at 2 but that felt a bit "peter and jane"ish.

had a third a bit sooner then planned, felt the family was complete, then along came number 4 as a complete shock!

glad now though as 2 girls and 2 boys is good,
step daughter never lived with us and is now all grown up.

9!!!

corblimeycharlie · 12/09/2007 14:00

2, always wanted 3 but, the arrival of DS has persuaded me otherwise.

I'm just getting to the point of going to the loo without an audience and shudder at the thought of losing this grain of independence.

AnnieBesant · 12/09/2007 14:00

2

I always thought I would want 3, but when it came to it, I just didn't...

4 - because that's how many we wanted. Nearly stopped after two (big age gap between two and three) but got broody and had another two as per original plan! Definitely not having any more though.

sweetkitty · 12/09/2007 14:05

have 2 want 3

like someone else below said theres someone else waiting in the sidelines, theres a space around the table at night

had a mc 4 weeks ago and am ttc again hopefully I will get my third but hopefully will feel 3 is enough

Tinker · 12/09/2007 14:08
  1. Always thought I'd have 3, even wanted 6 (ha!). Pre-kids I thought I was very maternal. But circumstances and timings meant I have had just the 2. And post-kids I've realised I'm not very maternal at all so just as well.
Fimbo · 12/09/2007 14:12

2 one of each.

When dh and I first met we didn't want any. Then we changed our mind and decided to have 1 and only 1. We moved from Scotland to England and were more definate than ever we were only going to have 1. (lack of babysitters etc)

Then I got broody, he got broody, we didn't know what to do. We decided to give it 6 months and if nothing happened it wasn't meant to be. Ho ho, was pregnant with ds within a month!

I was very ill after the birth of ds due to complications from a C-section. Some days I think a third would be nice but dh has had the snip now, so no more babies for me!

Tutter · 12/09/2007 14:13

2 - both boys

always wanted 2

if i ever think of a third, shoot me

oooggs · 12/09/2007 14:14

3 children (2 pregnancies), wanted 2, but dt2 was a bonus

Tigana · 12/09/2007 14:20

One

because DH so traumatised by my birth experience and my post-natal sobbing hysterical dysfunctionl and miserable weeks that he doesn't want to put me through it again...

But I want another...and when I raised it with dh recently his reaction, while still negative was less so than previously....

3 as I found having one of each a little dull. Would like another really but keep changing my mind.

expatinscotland · 12/09/2007 14:22

2 because that's what we can afford and I feel too old to have another. They're both girls.

DirtyGertiefromnumber30 · 12/09/2007 14:24

2 and 1 step son. The weekends where there are 3 children is soooo much harder - we are outnumbered!!

TheBlonde · 12/09/2007 14:26

2 so far, not sure if there will be any more
I would like another but it depends on my health

3 now. We thought we'd stopped at 2 (1 never seemed right), but then a little surprise appeared 6 months ago, after a gap of 8 years. He is so fab, and I'm so besotted that I can't believe we didn't go for it years ago

stressteddy · 12/09/2007 14:30

1 ds
No more planned but keeping options open
For me - no more
For ds - maybe? Very unsure so watch this space
(Think quite unlikely though - love him soooo much but has nearly bloody killed me!)

mytwopenceworth · 12/09/2007 14:40

2 hands = 2 children by the scruff of the neck!

Unless I grow a 3rd arm, I'm not risking it.

I don't think 1 or 3 work, tbh.

1 is lonely (imo)
with 3, 2 gang up and one is left out (I've seen)
that just leaves 2 (Because anything more than 3 is just masochistic! )

Plus, at the risk of sounding awful, I wouldn't want to risk a 3rd child with autism, simply because I don't think I could manage. I know that's selfish.

Cammelia · 12/09/2007 14:45

I have 2 children, first "only" child because I got married too young and then divorced. Second "only" child as met dh2 v. late and am too old to have another.

My 2 have never lived together.

SeaShells · 12/09/2007 14:48
  1. First one came along as a suprise and we planned to stop there, 5 years later we decided to go for another, then number 3 came as a big suprise although by then we had decided to have a third at some point just not so soon after the second.
BobbyGrantycal · 12/09/2007 14:50

2 - because DH doesn't want anymore, ds2 doesn't sleep and I ought not, medically to hae anymore. I would love more though. Definitely one more. Possibly 3 more in my less sane moments. Not to try for a girl as tbh I would want boys.....

ishouldbeironing · 12/09/2007 14:50

Ive got 3 but only had one pregnancy!!
1 DD was adopted ( 1st marriage )
then decided to have one more with DH and got twins!!

IdrisTheDragon · 12/09/2007 14:52
  1. Not saying no to having a third one day but at the moment, two children feels right for us .
Mung · 12/09/2007 14:54
  1. One of each. Like others, this feels too neat for me. I feel I want a bit more chaos. I'm just scared, as with DD I was given high risk of Downs and not sure how I would cope with 3 children, especially if one had Downs. I suppose I should feel lucky with what I have, but I keep getting that feeling that something is missing still.
kansasmum · 12/09/2007 20:33
  1. Have 2 girls then after 10 year gap had a little boy who is 7 months. I would go for 4 but think dh might spontaneously combust if I mention it! Plus gets hard with things like cars etc if we have another one! Never say never........
