Is peppa pig really so terrible?

I was reading about how Peppa pig is a bad influence and children have become more rude after they've watched a bit. I watch with my daughter and she loves it. I admit some episodes are a bit sexist so I've turned it off but I love the episodes with grandma and grandpa pigs gardens and chickens, lots of giggles about wiggly worms and we've talked about it when out in our garden. So is it really so bad?

No.

I absolutely love Peppa pig and this is the hill I will die on. It's helped my dc with the concept of nursery, siblings, friends etc.

I like it. She's a normal little girl pig with a loving family. There is far, far worse out there. I personally hate shite like Shimmer and Shine with these wee vaguely sexual genie girls.

I happily let my ds watch Peppa pig as annoying as it is.

Daddy pig is my favourite character, even though he doesn't discipline Peppa & George properly!

My little is obsessed with Bing, the worlds whiniest bunny. I hate it but my daughter doesn’t suddenly start acting like Bing!

My DD loves it and I think it’s one of the less annoying ones but a few of the mums I know have said they think the character is ‘spoilt’ which I don’t see at all really.

I camt stand peppa pig, precocious little so and so. No judgement on anyone whose kids watch it though.

I love Peppa, it's so hard to find something with a female lead who is not overly sexualised or a complete drip. Bitz and bob is also good for that.

Agree with a pp about shimmer and shite. Every episode is about them making it to a sleepover or party in time, like all girls can do is paint nails and giggle

I agree with you all. My DD has also learnt a lot about the world around her and it's been great for her language skills too. I don't have a problem with her watching it, just not constantly!

I also hate Shimmer and Shine and all the programmes that have been redone, like Noddy, Peter Rabbit, Thomas the Tank and Fireman Sam. They’re loud, garish and just generally awful.

However, Peppa Pig and Ben and Holly are awesome and I will also die on this hill. I just don’t find them that annoying and I think children learn a lot from them.

My DGC speak English as a second language, and don’t speak it every day, but thanks to Peppa Pig they have a varied vocabulary and speak very clearly. I always smile to myself when I hear them say something that is pure Peppa.

I’m a great fan, and I love the dry humour. I’m a bit sad that DGC1 has outgrown Peppa, but he still says «sandcaaaaastle» just like she does

I really don’t see anything terrible about Peppa Pig - it’s a great starting point for conversations on many subjects with young children.

They make daddy out to be a bit of an idiot, but grandpa is cool. Not sure how I feel about that.

What bits did you find sexist? I think it tries hard to be balanced.

My problem with Peppa Pig is that it's full of satire, like the whole sexist thing. As grown ups we find that funny. As a 3 year old, it's taken very literal and then they think that kind of behaviour and language is ok.

@BoldRoo I hate that Thomas now seems to go round the globe and fly to space (probably). I liked it when it was animated actual trains who just pottered about picking up passengers in a storm.

She calls her Dad fat all the time and that annoys me.

Also when George is sick he refuses medicine and says 'yuk' which is just daft to teach kids.

I think she is a spoilt wee brat tbh.

I just love Miss Rabbit and the fact that she does all the different jobs. The dripping water in the aquarium gift shop is a work of genius.

We flew recently from Doncaster airport. It is tiny. The same woman checked in our baggage and then 2 hours later let us on the plane. Really wanted to call her Miss Rabbit.

Dd is now 9. We have her viewing locked down pretty well (dh works in internet security) but even so the things she watches now make Peppa look adorable. “My heart is saying yes! But my daddy says no!” Is her current favourite song.

Firm Peppa fans (and Ben and Holly) since DD who is now 14 was little, however since rewatching with DD who is 2 I'm torn with some of the messages such as pink and dresses for girls, "they only want to play booyyyys games" and the constant fat shaming of daddy pig, even from Mr Potato.
However, I do like it's a female lead and if I was Mummy Pig I'd probably lose my shit with Daddy Pig. It was the keys down the drain episode we watched today. The older kids were asking who would foot the bill if they really had to dig up the road Me and DP do adult voiceovers with what Mummy Pig is actually thinking. I've also used the narrator voice on the kids:
"It's morning time in the peekaboob household, Mummy Peekaboob is trying very hard to not lose her beeeeeeep"

Be glad you don’t have to watch the obnoxious cunt that is Pocoyo. Maybe google an episode if you feel like peppa is a bad influence. He makes knobby bing look like a private school kid
