Is peppa pig really so terrible?

I was reading about how Peppa pig is a bad influence and children have become more rude after they've watched a bit. I watch with my daughter and she loves it. I admit some episodes are a bit sexist so I've turned it off but I love the episodes with grandma and grandpa pigs gardens and chickens, lots of giggles about wiggly worms and we've talked about it when out in our garden. So is it really so bad?

Peppa Pig fan here. Keeps the youngest entertained and provides hour of conversation with the older one regarding 'plot holes' Smile

FoxBaseBeta · 19/02/2020 22:15

I loved Peppa pig with my eldest, sadly the youngest hates it with a passion and reserves her love for Topsy and sodding Tim, non stop...HmmHmm

Another Peppa fan over here! She's better than Blippi anyway!

I only had to watch it sometimes with DGD, but I thought it was vile. DGD was fond of grunting and DD1 couldn't figure out why. One episode of Peppa and I knew the reason. Also the rudeness is appalling and laughing at people, not with them. Dreadful.

DesLynamsMoustache · 19/02/2020 22:26

I love Sarah and Duck. Scarf lady is my spirit animal.

HighwayCat · 19/02/2020 22:28

It find it all a bit twee but harmless enough. I prefer Ben and Holly for the laughs. And mine have recently started watching Bluey which is a grittier version of Peppa and I’m more on board with that.

My 2 year old DD loves it but for some reason calls it 'Dorge'. And calls both Peppa and George 'Dorge'.

Hellohello2020 · 20/02/2020 06:03

Thanks everyone. Yes the pink football shirt episode I found annoying and girls toys, boys toys split.

Up to you what you can tolerate but I love peppa and b&h. The sexism is occasional and subjective. I doubt you'll harm your DCs with peppa.

My little is obsessed with Bing, the worlds whiniest bunny. I hate it but my daughter doesn’t suddenly start acting like Bing!
I'm glad you said that. I was moaning about Bing to DH the other day after an episode where Bing suggested playing musical statues but then threw a strop at the end because he didn't win when it was his idea to play. 🙄
Shut up Bing! Nobody cares.😂

BoldRoo · 20/02/2020 07:27

Thought of some more that I love/hate:

HATE: fucking Paw Patrol. The music! Ugh.

LOVE: Twirlywoos!

Lllot5 · 20/02/2020 07:31

Well I love bing he’s my favourite.
Peppa is ok.

Hellohello2020 · 20/02/2020 07:35

I have Netflix and prime so tend to watch the same programs. so limited to Peppa pig, the Wiggles, Ben and Holly and little baby bum so far!

I'm not current with kids programming these days, my 13yo DD is more into Stranger Things and Runaways...but I used to watch Peppa when she was small. I had no complaints at all. We also used to watch Pocoyo, Octonauts, the gardening programme with the puppets (forget the name), Squiglet, Nina and the Neurons, and In the Night Garden (we had all the toys). Miss those days.

PerspicaciaTick · 20/02/2020 07:41

Peppa and the Little Princess were my secret joys when the DC were small. Especially Julian Clary's super dry narration for TLP. My children are fine...as with any TV talk to your DC's about the odd bits.

purpleme12 · 20/02/2020 07:42

I really like Peppa Pig. Everyone I know says they don't but I do like it. We don't have sky anymore so don't tend to watch it now. Shame really

CoodleMoodle · 20/02/2020 07:46

PP is fine, DD learned quite a lot from it! If I was trying to explain something there was usually an episode of Peppa to back me up. We went on a pedalo once and she was a bit worried about it beforehand, then I reminded her of the time they went on a pedalo and she was quite happy. Same with going to preschool, actually ("Oh, just like Peppa and George!").

I was really sad when she grew out of it! Luckily DS is nearly the right age, he already gets excited when he sees Daddy Pig. And if it happens to be on then DD is still mesmerised by it, and she's 6...

CoodleMoodle · 20/02/2020 07:48

Oh, and the ep where Grandpa Pig, Grandad Dog and Grampy Rabbit get stuck on an island is genuinely hilarious. I could quite happily watch that one without the DC.

"Is anybody else missing cheese?" Grin

EvilPea · 20/02/2020 07:50

I love peppa pig. Let alone the kids.

I’m not sure how it teaches anything bad. I remember a daily mail sad face article once about a kid who kept jumping in puddles, without their welly boots Shock
But that’s clearly not peppas message.

There’s so few kids programs that you can watch together without wanting to blow your brains out, enjoy this one.

Hellohello2020 · 20/02/2020 08:00

I'm pretty sure kids have been jumping in muddy puddles without wellies way before Peppa

Exactly hello. But somehow this dickhead ended up in the paper blaming peppa.

FNuts · 20/02/2020 08:13

My view of Peppa:
Peppa: I want to do this
Daddy Pig: why don't you try?
Peppa: I can't, it's impossible!
Daddy pig: I'll do it for you then.
Peppa: yay! This thing is amazing!

That's the vast majority of episodes I've seen, saying that, channel 5 only has half of one season on rotation. I know (unfortunately) that there are 19 seasons on prime but only 1-6 available to view, the rest are available to buy at about 8 quid a season (no way I'm buying that). Also noted the latest movie with muddy festival is actually from season 6, so not new episodes on that film.
Netflix only has seasons 1-5

Zackariya13 · 08/05/2020 12:19

My kids love watching Peppa Pig.
I came across this video of Peppa Pig during the lockdown,
I really thought it was great.
