suitable name(s) for female genitals

Does anyone have a suitable name that we can use as a family? So far I'm stumped - vagina (too clinical), front bum (eurgh!), I've seen 'flower' used on mn, but would welcome any other suggestions

I always think that vagina sounds like the name of a girl at a posh boarding school -- 'Come on Vagina or we'll be late for the gymkhana!'
But I can't think of a better word. Ds1 as a small child couldn't quite say 'vagina' and so shortened it to 'jar' -- a bit of a blokey term, but I liked it.

...though I only have boys so the issue doesn't come up much.

mymatemax · 09/09/2007 22:20

I refer to mine as privates or my bits when quizzed about them by ds's - couldn't possibly use Vulva as FIL has a Volvo.

Went to dr's with ds1's sore willy the other day & Dr knew exactly what we were talking about & didn't book me in for counseling

Whatever you call them once they are a certain age they'll come home from school calling them dick, nob, fanny, minge & much worse.

DH says he likes Quim??

I haven't read the whole thread, apologies if this one has come up already. I have three sisters and us 4 girls used peach. This is now in use with our children .

Front bottom is truly sad. I feel it is for parents who have sex once a fortnight in the missionary position (I fear the man thanks the woman afterwards, politely of course). They wear camel M&S cardigans (from the Classics range) at the weekends.

lizandlulu · 12/09/2007 12:48

i havent read all the thread either, but for me and my dd its 'me-me'.

SpawnChorus · 12/09/2007 12:53

We use 'front bottom' and 'willy' ....although DD (2.8) has independently renamed them both as 'benny'

I've already started teaching her 'vulva' well. I have to admit that I cringed inwardly and ducked the issue when she pointed at her clitoris and asked what it was. She decided that it was her 'little benny'. Argh.

Am lol at F&Z's suggestions on back fanjo, side nose etc. I hadn't thought of that. But will be sticking with front bottom nonetheless.

MrsScavoEatsJelly · 12/09/2007 12:57

This thread apears every 2 months, doesn't it.

There will always be those who scream VULVA, but just to annoy my DH Iv'e settled with fanjo, curtesy of MN, of coarse.

SpawnChorus · 12/09/2007 13:38

Also, do the parents who dislike euphemisms/slang names also teach their DCs to say anus and buttocks (or perhaps gluteus maximus....errr should that be glutea maxima?).

curiouscat · 12/09/2007 13:43

FWIW someone once pointed out that calling it the 'vagina' is like calling your face an oesophagus. Anatomically incorrect.

Still haven't got a decent alternative in my home tho
