Dirty bathroom

So this morning I was cleaning my bathroom when my MIL came over to see the kiddies, to cut a long story short we got chatting and she asked how often I cleaned my bathroom.

I clean my bathroom 3 times a week bleach and scrub toilet, sink, all taps, shower head, shower screen, bath, wash all the towels and bath mats and mop the floor.

She was horrified and said 3 days wasn’t enough and I was lazy!!!!

My bathroom is always clean tidy and doesn’t smell. AIBU to think 3 times is enough or is MIL right and I must do more?

How often does your DP clean the bathroom?

Tell your MIL that if she's not happy with how often it's cleaned, she can take it up with her son who'll take on the extra bathroom shifts.

Emmajones2517 · 12/11/2019 14:50

Well @BesticlesTesticles I did say something on those lines to her. DH works full time and I’m on maternity leave atm I have a 5 month old and 23 month old. And she said thats my job as a mother and wife to clean it everyday

@BigFatFuckNC I think I was in shock and just felt embarrassed and like I’d let my family down.

You clean yours more often and more thoroughly than I do mine.

LittleSweet · 12/11/2019 15:01

Let her show you, using your bathroom, how to clean it properly.

My mil refused to use my toilet.

Raphael34 · 12/11/2019 15:03

I only do a proper clean once a week, then spot clean when needed through the rest of the week

Emmajones2517 · 12/11/2019 15:06

I keep going into my bathroom and looking but I really can’t see any problems. We only moved to this house a year ago and had a new bathroom fitted so everything is still pretty brand new no mark or stains. I just don’t understand. @LittleSweet how did you deal with your mil saying that? I need advice

How often does you 5mo and 23mo use the bathroom? Honestly, 3x a week is pretty good. If you've a toilet training spray-wee-er, fine, do round the loo with disinfectant daily, but atm? Confused

dementedpixie · 12/11/2019 15:09

She's saying it to be a bitch and put you down. Just ignore her

Emmajones2517 · 12/11/2019 15:09

They only use the bathroom to have a bath every night. But bath is always cleaned and disinfected after every bath. My 23month old is a typical lazy boy and not ready for potty training just yet so never have little wee accidents in bathroom

dementedpixie · 12/11/2019 15:10

Why would you need to disinfect after a bath? Are they covered in toxic waste??

dementedpixie · 12/11/2019 15:11

Tell her you have better things to do with your time like drink tea and watch daytime TV.

FriedasCarLoad · 12/11/2019 15:11

That’s more than I clean mine!

QforCucumber · 12/11/2019 15:13

You do more than I do, and if my MIL said the same to me I'd be thanking her for the offer of free cleaning.

eatthepineapple · 12/11/2019 15:14

Yeah 3 times a week is more than enough!! Mine is lucky to get a clean once a week... Blush though I tend to do bits and bobs every now and then...

managedmis · 12/11/2019 15:14
Hmm

Really?

Emmajones2517 · 12/11/2019 15:15

@dementedpixie no 🤣 my son loves bubble bath and bath jelly. So once water is drained it leaves red yellow blue green bits everywhere so I clean and disinfect after every bath ( stupidly trying to keep my bathroom clean ....... so I thought anyway )

Disinfectant isn’t for stains. You’re contributing to massive problems with the waterways with the stuff you’re using!

My bathrooms (we have 4) get cleaned around once a month - 6 weeks. We aren’t doing anything in them to make them dirty and don’t live in a hard water area. Never get tummy bugs or skin problems, which could be a coincidence, or....... 🤷🏻‍♀️

Boobiliboobiliboo · 12/11/2019 15:20

And unless you’re using your boobs or fanny to clean, there’s no reason whatsoever that your husband can’t do it!

Justmuddlingalong · 12/11/2019 15:20

She's chipping away at you. Nip it in the bud now.

SnugglySnerd · 12/11/2019 15:26

She would hate me! I never clean the bathroom apart from the odd spill. That is dh's job in our house! He does it once a week and maybe a quick wipe over/scrub of the loo in between.

Emmajones2517 · 12/11/2019 15:31

I was so nervous putting this post out thinking I was going to get called dirty and needed to do it more but sounds like this is mil being cruel for no reason
