...and I'm too lazy to scroll down to the bottom to do a reply

Secur I'm just as bad as you, I can't bear seeing him grow up - I love the newborn stage but then I love this stage too, they're so squidgy and gorgeous .

Xena, you can carry on breastfeeding once you've started solids and stop whenever you want, whether that's at 9 months, 12 months, 18 months, 2 years...I tend to get pregnant as a method of stopping bf, although I don't plan to do that this time - fancy a bigger age gap. However have spooked myself by realising how old I'm going to be by the time I've had all these children and got them settled at school - eek.

MG, I have gained a smidgen or two (5lb) since my lowest post-baby weight. I have NO idea why this time, although massive quantities of chocolate, sweeties, cake, biscuits and bread from my new breadmaker might have something to do with it. Think I may have to swallow my pride (why not, I've eaten everything else) and go to something like WW or Slimming World, argh . oops have to run, no2 is screeching at me from above...

Karen - I hope your NIL is much improved and you are coping okay. Don't beat yourself up about needing some help - Cathncait is right, medicine is there to help for all types of problems.

Lily has eventually got over her cold, now appears to be teething big style but we are so loathe to do that 'Oh she is teething thing..' as we said that with DD1 from around about 4 months and it was 8.5 months before she got a tooth. And then took until she was about 3 before she had them all.

DD1 has been not very well too and we are still not sure what the problem is - actually think I might post a general 'what do you think?' question to the font of all knowledge that is MN and see if anyone comes up with some ideas.

DH is on holiday next week and we are away for a few days so really looking forward to that. Hope you are all well and hopefully I will have time to catch up properly at the end of next week. Bye and take care all.

monkeygirl · 23/10/2004 23:11

Gomez - hope dd1 isn't too bad - it's horrid when the little 'uns are ill isn't it?

I went on the razz last night with a girlfriend for the first time in I don't know how long and dh phoned me at 10pm to say ds1 was still crying - the first time he's been like that since he was about 3 weeks old! Don't know if he was in pain (yes Gomez I have that similar thing where I've been telling people for ages that he's teething cos it's the only thing that explains the short bursts of crying but nothing to show for it yet) or just 'sensed' I wasn't there cos tonight he's back to normal and in bed asleep. Don't know what the hell dh did to him! Apart from that he's been an absolute sweet darling, very smiley and becoming a bit of a giggler, especially when his sister smiles at him (he adores watching her and coos and gurgles away when she's near). I haven't been feeding him solids the last few days so my weaning attempts are very half hearted but I did puree some carrot for him which he seemed to quite like. Still no rolling and hates being on his tummy, maybe cos I don't let him try it often . Oh well, ought to think of going to bed soon although I'm really bad at making myself go to bed early - I'm a natural nightowl really.

Just a quick update,NIL is now at Larnanca hospital she will be there for the next two weeks before being airlifted back to the UK. She is now being sedated to stop any ressure occuring in her brain until the neuro surgeon has had another look. But it looks like it was a sever stroke. Amazingly though she has full body movemebnt and can name her 8 kids in order and keeps asking about Scott and NIcole. She does take a bit of time in registring some facts so it is really jusyt a waiting game now till we know what affect everything has had on her.

Take care all will post soon.

Oh Karen, have just been catching up and I'm so glad she seems to be ok. I haven't been online much to keep up with things. J is still lovely and apart from waking up loads at night (I think he's cold) is no trouble at all. Am about to put the side on the bedside cot though as he keeps hogging the bed and leaving us with no room whatsoever . Just packing as I'm off to visit a friend for a couple of days, taking only one small and easygoing baby - let's hope he doesn't decide to transform into screaming sleepless nightmare baby overnight...will update on my return!

My dd born 10 june 2004 is great. I however might be preggers again and wondered if any one else is in this situation?

Cavy · 01/11/2004 18:30

Sorry, Amai, not pregnant again. Well, sorry I can't help you, very glad for me!

Er... does anybody else's baby have teeth, yet? I think that's partly why N. has been so grizzley. Seem to be some lines on his bottom gum. The others didn't get teeth until more like 8 months.

karen01 · 02/11/2004 17:13

Welcome Amai,
No I am not pregnant either however am still getting really broody and want to go for number three but still trying to convince DH to go for it!! Oh well I suppose the practise trying is fun.

NIL is still here in hospital we have been told today that she will be airlifted back to the UK at the end of next week. DH is going away again on Sunday for 3 weeks but this time he will be back at weekends so atleast it is not too bad.

Have also just found out that my aunty is being posted over to the other side of the island with her husband for 2 years so she will only be an hour or so away which will be nice. As we are more like sisters as there is only 7yrs between us.

Scott is doing really well no signs of teeth though just lots of dribbling. he is now on 3 solid meals aday and 3-4 8oz bottles. he is having pureed fruit and veg and loves it.

Anyway must go sorting tea out.

Take care all
k xx

monkeygirl · 03/11/2004 11:53

Hello all out there, whoever is still out there (?)

Karen - glad things are looking up for you again.

Cavy - I've been telling people for weeks that ds is teething. I can see two white shapes on his lower front gums but they are resolutely refusing to break through and I think people think I am just making up excuses for his grizzling. DD1 didn't cut her first tooth until about 7 months.

Today my period finally returned . Oh well back to bump and grind of pmt etc.

Ds is like a little barrel now and fascinated by his environment. Anything within reach goes straight into the mouth and he keeps pulling my hair (what I have left) with a big smile on his face! He's also noticing 'details' as well as things and can sit up for a few seconds by himself encouraged by me cos I can't wait for him to sit up. He is atm screaming as usual, because he now wants to be entertained and shown things constantly although he is quite good at lyign there with a toy and examining it for ages. And now I'm off to get dd1 where all the kids maul the poor chap - good job he is so tolerant.

cathncait · 03/11/2004 12:22

I'm still here. have to confess i wait till people are about before i post - i feel less conspicuous. .
glad to hear things are improving for you Karen, and I bet you're looking forward to having some family near by. I'm really happy for you.
i don't know if dd is teething at the moment. I keep thinking she is and then i think no, too early...still I guess I will know when some little white teeth pop out one of these days. I don't think shes grumpy enough yet for teeth really.
Grace is doing well and working really hard on sitting up. She sits forward in the pram and rocker chair - have to strap her in well now!
dd1 is driving me crazy at the moment. We are toilet training and she was doing great then suddenly said 'I don't like wees'. And is refusing to go but won't wear a nappy either! AHhhh , makes me frustrated! Am trying rewards today (chocy bribes!). We'll get there soon I'm sure.
Anyway Girls, hope everyone is doing well - hi to Amai too (def not pregnant here! Thank God).

Cavy · 03/11/2004 12:44

A friend who was babysitting DS on Monday said she thought he was teething. I said, "No, you just don't know how to handle him when he's tired or bored, can't be..." But today I can actually feel a little sharp thing in there when he grabs my fingers to gnaw on them. Just barely, but it's there. Drools for England, too.

Is anyone else still feeding a lot at night? 3 nightly wakings for us -- yuck!! Skara? I need some moral support. At least I know from previous experience that starting solids won't help.

monkeygirl · 04/11/2004 10:15

Ah Cavy, is that the first June tooth then? Hope A's comes soon cos he's definitely feeling it.

Three night feeds - ouch! Glad that A gave them up 3 weeks ago now. He usually goes to bed between 7:15 - 7:45pm and wakes at about 6am to come into bed with us, then he naps until dd1 comes bounding in. Occasionally he does wake at 4am-ish as well when he needs to be plugged up with his dummy.

Cathncait - I think I have hated potty training most of all so feel for you, although dd1 has been having a few 'accidents' lately (we think it's because she thinks the games will stop if she interrupts them by going to the loo). Am thoroughly fed up of trying to scrub wee out of our carpets. Is Grace dummy free then?? A is not but I decided not to attempt to take it away cos it helps him (and us!)sleep and have decided I would rather not have another thumb-sucker cos I cannot get dd1 to break the habit and her teeth are ruined!

HI all.

NIL is being discharged on monday so coming back to camp for a week before she has another brain scan the following monday when they should then be given a defo date for going home. I know this is going to sound selfish but I can't wait for them to go home so I can get back to my life and consentrate properly on the children instead of having to drive MIL (who can drive but won't here even though same side of road etc) to the hospital etc The hospital is 45mins each way.

Rant over,

I had scott weighed the other day he weighs 14lb 9oz. SO he is still quite small bless him.

must go he is starting to whine for his last bottle then bed yeah.

Karen, pleased NIL is on the mend and not at all selfish to want some normality back to your life. You have had more than enough going on recently.

Take care,

karen01 · 06/11/2004 12:55

HI all,
To be honest I don't know what I would do if I couldn't post on here to you girlies as I feel sometimes I am going mad and it is easier to rant and let your self go on here than what it is over coffee etc. I would just like to say a big THANK YOU for letting me go on and on.

I am now preparing myself for DH going away again tommorrow night. He will be away for 3 weeks but hopefully will be back for weekends. We are going out for a Japenese tonight with another couple so that will be nice. We decided that we will make it kid free so we can just all relax.

I had to go and buy an evening dress yesterday for DH Chrstmas ball, I have had to get one made ( but it is still cheaper than what I would have paid for one in the UK by about 75% so am happy)as out here they don't really cater for larger ladies. I am a size 18-20 (more 20 though )in UK but here the 20s are more like 16-18 so it makes me feel even worse. Most get off my arse and start doing some exercises or even go to the gym or yoga when I get my own life back to normality and get chance to chill out for me!!!

Thanks again everyone. Hope everyone is OK.

XenaWP · 17/11/2004 12:49

Hi all
Karen, hope it's ok with dh away again and that you feel life is sort of getting back to normal?
Cavy - 1st tooth, blimey, am rather dreading that myself because of what you all said before about rashes, diarrhoea (sp?), crying etc.
Hi Amai, hooray - am not the newbie anymore but also not pregnant - wow, that means you're having sex.
I remember that.
Ava is doing really well, going to see HV tomorrow as last time she'd gone from 50th to 25th centile, but seems v happy. I too was going to wait for 6 months for weaning, but she's v hungry so is now enjoying carrot, squash and soon pear and apple. she's so funny as any food she sees means she sits there with her mouth wide open. and then the 1st time we tried her on pear, she screwed up her face, spat it out and said 'bleuch' - dp & I were in hysterics! so we'll have another go with that next week. Have 1 day's work next week, then 4 days in december - really looking forward to it.
Got a stone to lose, but dp has persuaded me to do 1/2 marathon with him in March so off to buy running shoes this pm. have never run properly in my life before - last time I remember was doing 1500m at school & my shirt flew open as I ran past the onlookers, so I finished last holding the front of my shirt together... this time will wear a T shirt
am just starting to feel a bit more energy, but today am v tired, how's everyone with 2?
