Issy: sounds splendid. But must remember to build in a ponce alert for my own sanity. We attended a Latin Mass a few weeks ago, and I had to mentally slap myself as I found I was starting to explain the subjunctive to dd1 apropos of the construction 'domine non sum dignus ut intres sub tectum meum'.

Frogs! PonceAlert for my new aupair whose CV includes delivery of a paper on 'Teaching Conditional Sentences'.

Re-learning all my forgotten Latin and Greek is ear-marked for my retirement. Only another, oh, 20 or so years to go.

Loving this thread! But am concerned that dd (aged 6) isn't doing anything poncey by far - she only does tap & modern dancing and Rainbows - oh, and Sunday School, does that count?! However, she did gymnastics and Spanish lessons until she was 4.
But then I only did ballet, piano and Sunday School so my parents also weren't poncey - it must be hereditary!
I did Latin at school for 2 years but that was cos I was in the brainy class , too brainy for typing which would have been of far more use! Enjoyed Latin though. Am also a bit concerned that I've turned into a ponce as I've got older as I do yoga AND fencing!

Mr S and I were having a few beers in a pub in Brighton and a small child of 6 or so was with her family and doing some drawing; one of their group commented on the abstract nature of one of her pictures and she looked up, gave him a withering glance and said, "All of my pictures are inspired by Picasso!". I snorted and spluttered lager everywhere. Pretty poncey, surely, even for Brighton?

aimeesmummy · 04/07/2007 16:49

DDs class did pictures which we then had the opportunity to buy during their "art exhibition" and dd told me her painting was Flowers by "Thingy Fan Cough". I think that makes her officially un-poncey!

imnot27 · 04/07/2007 17:06

My ds1 is about to start archery lessons. Quite poncey?

Gingermonkey · 05/07/2007 07:37

DD's best friend just got her first award for yoga, round of applause all round please (she's 7)

mireadsmum · 05/07/2007 16:41

I have a 6 month old daughter who is about to start music classes (banging drums with sticks), I'm a singer and her daddy is musician so it seems fitti.ng!!!

My nephew does horse riding but thats partly to do with the fact he has a mild form of cerebral palsy and it helps the strength in his legs and his co-ordination. Not to mention he has great fun and his confidence is boundless (yet not bratty)

MalikaAndMungo · 05/07/2007 17:54

Because we live in the Middle East, the only Teletubbies DVDs we can buy are in classical Arabic. My 2 year old doesn't really mind/notice, and whatever keeps him quiet....Is that poncey?
[and by the way, Eh-oh is the same in Arabic!]

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/07/2007 17:55

And surely tinky winky translates the same?

ForcesSweetheart · 05/07/2007 20:03

My school had a compulsary "Art Appreciation" class for an hour a week, thought that was very poncey.

Kaz33 · 06/07/2007 17:43

Havent read all the thread and may have been mentioned but did see advertised in the SW magazine for Central/SW London - Mandarin for pre-schoolers.

Did take DS1 to a toddler french class but as we lived in South Kensington at the time everyone was french - so probably more sensible.

We also did a pre-school African inspired music group in Holland Park.

Ah well, now more sensible and we just do football, swimming and art between the two of them.
