Hi Dot

best to think of going to work as being paid to mumsnet rather than doing it in my own time, I find

am enjoying all the baby photos. I think Metrobaby's ds wins the best hair award so far.

Metrobaby · 06/09/2004 14:27

Lovely photos - yup the hair award goes to Metro's ds, but is Lowryn's up for the tooth prize? My dd2 is distinctly gummy still.

My dd1 and ds1 didn't get a tooth til 13 mths and 11 mths respectively (much to the chagrin of my mother, who from about 2 wks put their every whimper or dribble down to "teething"!)

Fennel - Know what you mean about too many - just when you have 2 sorted at any point, be it bath, or food or whatever, another one pops up from nowhere

Youngest has been resplendent today in her new lavender tots bots. God they're cute! She also sings all the time, which makes me start humming 'Pearl's a singer' by Elkie Brooks. Will have to get the lyrics off the net, as I can't get past the first line...

DS suprised me by biting me whilst breastfeeding, the little bugger. I hadn't been expecting teeth yet as DD got hers gone 7 months. DS has to come in the running for most comical hairdo. He has nothing but fuzz at the front but huge tufts in a patch on top. He looks like a fimble!

handlemecarefully · 06/09/2004 22:00

Thanks MrsD, Metrobaby and Lowryn for sharing the baby photos - they are all really lovely, I have been 'ooohing and aaahing' over them.

Glad to hear dd is a little better Yorkiegirl

Poor Dot - the first day back at work is the worst and it will get a bit easier.....

Fennel - I've either got a model 2 year old, or an overly demanding baby (I'm not sure which), but dd is definitely an easier option for me than baby ds. I get less done on Tuesdays (the day dd is in Nursery and baby ds at home on a one-to-one) than I do on Fridays (the day baby ds is in Nursery and dd at home on a one-to-one).

Fennel · 06/09/2004 22:12

Tickle - lavendar nappies, wow! would like some of those but dd3 gets her sisters' hand-me-downs.

HMC - dd1 was an easy baby, and an easy toddler (is getting difficult now at 4 though).
Dd2 was a more demanding baby and then a demanding toddler (but lots of fun if you have lots of time and energy).
dd3 is the easiest. I can do almost anything with her in tow.
lots of it seems down to personality rather than age.

Chuffed · 07/09/2004 09:27

Can't resist adding some photos of dd too.

What a cutie Chuffed... she looks so grown-up in the last one!

Chuffed · 07/09/2004 10:20

I know it seems like once she started sitting up she is like a little girl now not a baby...:(

Fennel · 07/09/2004 12:32

Chuffed, lovely photos (a good looking lot, these april babies ). are you cycling with dd yet? I remember you cycled before the birth a lot. my dd3 is just sitting up (very proud of her at 4.5 months, so advanced....) and am thinking of taking her cycling soon.

just sent a work email with mumsnet-style abbreviations in! oops am waiting for replies to say they don't understand.

dot1 · 07/09/2004 12:56

Fennel - dp is now taking ds2 around in a baby backpack - so cute! Very funny re: work e-mail!!

Can't believe how normal being back at work feels, after I was dreading it for so long - don't know if this is a good or bad thing...

hewlettsdaughter · 07/09/2004 13:26

The anticipation of these things is usually worst, I find. At least, I'm hoping so. MrsD, hope your day is going ok.

LucyJones · 07/09/2004 13:32

Hi everyone. Love the photos of all the babies I'm back at work tomorrow. Dh has got tomorrow and Friday off to take ds to nursery practice - 1 hour tomorrow and all morning Friday. And then next week he starts full days, Tuesdays and Fridays. I must be wierd because I'm quite looking forward to going back to work, having a lunch hour to myself to go shopping

Fennel · 07/09/2004 14:33

Lucyjones, it's not weird. one thing I like about being at work is the bits of space even going to and fro where you can get things done on your own.

dot, I think that's good that it feels normal. maybe noone ever feels ready to leave the baby and go back to work but once you're back it can be nice.

dd3 appears very happy in nursery.

MrsDoolittle · 07/09/2004 14:41

Hi Ladies. I am at work and reclaiming my computer (grrrrrrrrr)
Tickle - dd wears rainbow totsbots. I love them She has pink, yellow, blue, lavender and lime green but not mandarin! It would clash with her hair! They are the cutest.
Anyway, I shan't stop I must dash because I have finished for the day and I want to get back to dd. I phoned the nursery and they said she is very happy chatting to herself and staring at her hands. She doesn't sound as mobile as all your other babies, although she is constantly trying to sit up. She just seems to be sitting in a permanent 'U' shape.
Fennel - I am a lecturer

LucyJones · 07/09/2004 15:58

Hi MrsD - what do you lecture in if you dont mind me asking? That's really sweet of your dd at nursery. My ds isn't mobile either - still justs rolls onto his tummy and gets stuck there!
Fennel - I'm glad it's not just me that's excited about going back to work. I'm quite excited about ds going to nursery too. When we went last Friday for a meeting with his room leader she said they have themed months like a mirror month! It sounds like fun

Metrobaby · 07/09/2004 19:21

I have an immobile ds too. He can only roll onto his side, but can lift his head right up when lying on his tummy. Although he only likes tummy time for a very short while. He's always full of smiles and giggles though. He's a very happy chap and his main source of entertainment is dd! I'm impressed Fennel with your dd already sitting up at this age.

Chuffed I loved the photos. They're very good. Your dd looks cute.

What has happened to dolbear? Wonder how she is getting along.

Is everyone's babies weaned now or has anyone managed to get by by exclusive milk feeding?

Gosh everyone seemes to be returning to work already. I feel like my mat leave has flown by. I'm seeing my boss this week however to negiogiate part time status. I'm planning to return in Jan after Xmas. Has anyone else changed their hours since returning to work?

LucyJones · 07/09/2004 19:25

Hi Metrobaby - yes I've changed my hours. I was working full time before went off on maternity leave. Now i'm doing part time - 3 days one week and 2 days the next. I have started weaning but not in a big way - just banana for brekkie and carrot and sweet potato for lunch - not huge amounts. Although my mum said at weekend she thought he needed more food but he's definitely not underweight and sleeps well so not sure why she thinks that!

Lowryn · 07/09/2004 19:30

Hi metrobaby. Still exclusively breastfeeding here. DS is doing well on it, although sometimes wakes up every two and a half hours in the night to feed.
Decided not to wean in the vain attempt of him going through the night, as it never helped DD!
God I need more sleep though.

Fennel · 07/09/2004 21:06

Metrobaby - I am also impressed with dd3's sitting, far younger than the other two. She isn't exactly mobile though, sitting is quite a static activity!

dd3 is just on breastmilk this last week, though maybe it doesn't count as she had bits of solids for the week or so before that but didn't really eat them. She is currently perfectly content on milk only I think. will offer solids again in a few weeks.

I have changed my hours at least once a year since dd1, 4 years ago, I generally work 3.5 days a week, 3/4 time. in fact people at work might say I am generally on maternity leave

hewlettsdaughter · 07/09/2004 21:34

Exclusively bf'ing here too (though worrying about weaning/going back to work etc as some of you will have seen from other threads!)

Tickle · 07/09/2004 22:37

DD2 still immobile here too - she rolls around a lot when nappy free, but bulky nappies seem to keep her still - which is fine by me. With dd1 I was keen for her to do everything, whereas now I'm just happy dd2 stays where I put her!

Still bf'ing here too, altho we tried a bit of baby rice a week or so ago. Seemed to give her more wind, so stopped. But she has started waking a few times each night (yawn), so might start some fruit. On that note I'll go to bed...

KristinaM · 08/09/2004 04:46

Morning all ...mother of 5am waking baby here.......again. Just to add that DS is still bald, still immobile and still BF. Would consider weaning if i thought it would make him sleep better though, but from what I can gather they are all waking in the night around this age?? Am not going back to work for a while though so am trying not to get stressed about it.

In his defence, I would point out that DS must be the youngest baby here at 18 weeks. In fact he's not really an April baby at all, as he was more than two weeks late. If you knew me IRL you would not be surprised at this

OP posts:
Lowryn · 08/09/2004 07:40

Kristina, DS only just stayed an April Baby, and would have been a May baby if he was as late as his sister! He is 19 weeks.
DD was sitting up by now, but DS is more floppy! He is better with his hands and has rolled over once or twice which she couldn't do until 6 months.
I don't want him to grow up too quickly though as he will probably be my last baby, and I feel a bit clingy!

dot1 · 08/09/2004 08:42

I can't believe ds is 5 months old tomorrow - it's gone so quickly..! He's also pretty immobile - I think it's the fat weighing him down! He rolls to his side, but that's about it. Funny though - we were always pushing ds1 to do stuff, but I'm not at all bothered about encouraging ds2 - he'll do it when he's ready! He can kind of sit though - in a weeble-like way..!

Best news of all - he slept until 7am today!!! Slight waking up at 6am-ish, but then settled back down for another hour - hurrah!! Of course I was awake from 5.30am onwards, waiting for him to wake up...
