MrsD, if you are gettting baby withdrawal symptoms you can always come round here

KristinaM · 03/09/2004 10:23

HD I'm so sorry about the school thing. Dd did it at nursery for about a year!! On her first day at school she just rushed in without a backward glance. But there were 5 children crying in her class of 25- one girl outside the school having a tantrum, two boys being carried my their mums and two girls sobbing in their seats

Don't suppose its much consolation but you are not alone. And they DO stop crying when you are gone...

Thanks HD, I should have thought of that but I'm bring stupid today. Will definately come around next week but I really should go into town though. Need to get arse into gear.......
It's too easy to sit hear a chat away!!

MrsDoolittle · 03/09/2004 10:32

I didn't see it happen. HONEST!!!!!!
But I was also fitter when I became pregnant, I was going to the gym 3 times a week. Now I only think about going to the gym!!

hewlettsdaughter · 03/09/2004 11:00

Kristina - ds was the same with his childminder and then with nursery too. I know he'll be fine now I'm not there but I hate that moment when you feel you are abandoning them...
Sorry MrsD, this is probably not helping you! Go get some great clothes, girl .

KristinaM · 03/09/2004 11:04

Stop being nice to her HD - I STILL HATE YOU MRS D

KristinaM - you should love me then, a cuddly 2 stone more than when I conceived. and I was hardly waif-like then. hence my prodigious expressing output - I'm like a prize dairy cow!

Mrs D - today my dd3 is at nursery full day without me, for the first time. would be :( but have dd1, dd2, and a friend of dd1 to distract me so it's been quite rowdy with paint and water play/fights. It's the first day with the other girls and not dd3 since she was born and actually rather nice to be able to concentrate on them (umm, why am I on mumsnet then?)

HMC - I did start weaning but am stopping again as she's not interested (and sleeping very well moreover, 7.30 - 7 last night). will try again in a week or two I think.

MrsDoolittle · 03/09/2004 22:09

Poor little girl!! I picked her up at 4.30pm, a whole day. She was absolutely shattered, I have never seen her so tired. She had only slept for an hour today and by 6 the dark patches beneath her eyes were obvious. She fell asleep in my arms an hour and a half earlier than usual. They thought she was teething, she had been grumbling all morning. "She was much happier after lunch" they said. Unfortunately the nursery assumed that because I had breastfed her first thing this morning she was ok for milk til lunch. I hadn't told them that I also give her bottle at 10!! Poor love had been hungry for her bottle. Anyway, it's sorted now so I guess it's all part of the learning curve for all of us.
As for the clothes shopping, don't get so excited girls. Lighter I may be but I am in no better shape! Gone has the firmer, heavier muscle of this tum. There is a soft, squishy protrusion beneath my belly button that was not there before. And I have to admit my boobs have never been pert, as you would say but there is a distinct orientation south........

Big hugs Mrs D - I sympathise about you feeling bereft at leaving dd at Nursery. I had the same thing when my dd first started Day Nursery - I was in tears for the first week, but she was and is fine and has been going to Nursery for 18 months now (she is 2 years old). However with baby ds I was quite relaxed about leaving him (probably because I have been through it before).

Also Hewlettsdaughter - big hugs to you too. I can imagine it tugged at your heart strings when your ds clung to you limpet like at school this morning. Give him a week or two and chances are he wont give you a backwards glance!

I have had a lovely day today. Baby ds has been in Nursery (he attends Thursday and Friday, Thursday because it coincides with when his sister goes so I get a day free every week, and Friday so that I can have one to one time with his sister) so dd and I went to the zoo together....have concluded that 2 year olds are easier to look after than babies. At least they don't need lugging around every where you go. However love ds to bits of course, even though he is so full on and I can never put him down for more than 1 minute at a time.

Turned my back in the kitchen for a little while this evening, and when I looked around ds, who had been sitting in his bumbo seat, was wearing a potty on his head (courtesy of his sister). Moments like that remind you why you had kids.

MrsDoolittle · 03/09/2004 22:44

HMC - you made me smile

Tickle · 03/09/2004 23:01

Hello - can I join too? Have been reading mumsnet for a long time, but never felt the need to chat. However, now sitting on a small island in Denmark and appreciate a bit of baby conversation in English! And this seems like a v friendly thread
I have DD1 (aged 5), DS1 (3) and DD2 who will be 5 months in a couple of days. DD2 is a good (breast) feeder, adorable, and sleeps well at night - sometimes going through, but lately waking once for a top-up.

But she has been scratchy the last couple of days- maybe withdrawal symptoms as my mum has been visiting and giving lots of (high volume!) attention for a couple of weeks, and now it's just me. That said, DD1 and DS1 are fab cabaret when they are around :)

Tickle · 03/09/2004 23:05

Just re-read that... it's not that lonely as dh is here too! Do you difficult not to automatically type their names? Have to get used to that!

MrsDoolittle · 03/09/2004 23:17

Hi Tickle! Welcome This is a nice friendly thread.

hewlettsdaughter · 04/09/2004 07:28

Hi Tickle! I've obviously been on mumsnet too long as I find it difficult not to say dh, ds, dd when I'm talking to non-mumsnetters!
Are you from GB originally?

Lowryn · 04/09/2004 07:35

HD, it's terrible. I find myself thinking in acronyms these days. DH looks at me blankly when I snigger LOL! at him, or say IMO before giving him my opinion

Tickle · 04/09/2004 08:45

ok - so i'll just have to post more! originallly from GB but danish husband, so came here in feb for 6 months (to kick off older ones' danish, mainly)... and have decided to stay! kids are now fabulous at danish, but i'm lagging a bit

hewlettsdaughter · 04/09/2004 09:16

How do you say 'baby' in Danish?
Do you miss home at all? Or do you feel like Denmark is your home now? I often feel that other countries in Europe are generally more enlightened than us, re things like maternity/paternity leave etc. Is that true of where you are?

Tickle · 04/09/2004 10:26

funnily enough it's 'baby'! but child is 'barn' - v similar to scottish... the vikings really got around and its amazing how many similar words there are. pronunciation is totally off the wall tho - plenty of silent letters to catch you out.

the danish social system is v sorted: maternity/paternity leave is 1 yr, and can be split between parents. also, as far as i can understand, you can delay taking it. some friends here are planning a career break with their 2 kids before they start school

MrsDoolittle · 04/09/2004 10:52

Sounds excellent Tickle, I'm jealous

dot1 · 05/09/2004 10:47

Hello! Been missing mn as my work's moving offices and I haven't got any web access for the moment..!

Anyway, we're staying with friends at the moment and they're v. IT literate (unlike me!), so have created this photo album - the link's below. Just 2 photos taken this weekend (I'm the fat one on the right..!!). Just look at the gorgeous boys!

ooh - I've just had a look at this - isn't it clever..!! The photo on the train was us lot on a special Thomas the Tank Engine event yesterday for ds1, who's obsessed and had the time of his life! Ds 2 was remarkably well behaved, considering we were out all day and it was v. hot...

Wish he'd woken up later than 6.15am today though

First day at work tomorrow - and no computers but when I'm back online, expect lots of feeling-sorry-for-myself postings...

hewlettsdaughter · 05/09/2004 14:24

Fab pics, dot! The one of DS2 is lovely and you all look like you were having a great time on the train . Good luck tomorrow.
Tickle - interesting about the Scottish-like words...
