Peachypie,

That's true, and the only 'me' time you genuinely have is after 22.00 at night when the kids have been in bed a couple of hours and you finished catching up on what chores you didn't do in the day....hence posting on mumsnet at this hour!!!

Fennel · 27/08/2004 08:56

HMC good to know your DS was fine at nursery. we've been there together for the last 3 mornings and DD3 is fine with it. except for the day DP took her and forgot her milk - he's always forgetting things but expressed milk is probably the hardest to replace! I still don't want to leave her though, not ever

party was good thanks. 26 kids and maybe 18 adults - it seems lots of people are at home and bored in a wet august.

throwing all anonymity to the winds, the photos are at www stygian demon co uk/janet/geek.htm

I've put gaps instead of dots there so it doesn't show up as a website for search engines, I don't need more spam.

ds was 8lb 7oz at birth...

Thanks for all the nappy advice - am pleased to report that ds was dry last night using Pampers! Not so pleased that tonight my Mum was round and changed him for bed and I forgot to give her a Pampers so he's in his Moltex... will wait and see how it goes.

Fennel - I know what you mean re: leaving our babies - I never want to leave ds - feels like a punishment having to go back to work I keep feeling really panicky - getting breathless - but I know it's just nerves at going back and sadness re: leaving my lovely life here at home - it's worked so well being with dp and ds's for the last 6 months. Sigh.

I've got a gorgeous photo of our 2 on my e-mail system but I haven't got a website - is there any way I can transfer it somewhere?! (I'm soooooo IT illiterate - can you believe part of my job is to manage an IT department?!!)

Fennel,

Your girls are beautiful!

dot1 · 28/08/2004 21:08

flipping heck - we've got ds off the dummy now, but he's still waking up a couple of times in the night - for no apparent reason. When I feed him he doesn't even try - just uses me as a dummy and falls straight asleep... Could really do with him sleeping through now! I suppose we really should let him cry it out, but after the screamy night the other night I'm not sure I've got the strength...

We did controlled crying with ds1 which was successful - he wouldn't go down at 7pm. But he didn't scream as much as ds2, who is truly the noisiest baby I've ever known..!

Ah well - suppose he'll start to sleep through in the end??!

Chuffed · 29/08/2004 17:44

dot dd is waking a couple of times a night as well. She appears to be starving hungry though so doesn't settle unless fed. It is hard to believe after 3 meals a day and milk feeds 2-3 hrly.
I'm hoping it'll settle down as I don't know what I'll do when I have to go to work as well.

hewlettsdaughter · 29/08/2004 18:01

Another human dummy here, dot! Don't know what dd is going to do when she's with a childminder... Saw someone the other day who said she didn't drive, but on the occasions when her husband picked her up from toddler group or whatever (if, for example, it was raining), then she strapped the youngest one in with her . Don't think I'll be contacting her again.

Chuffed · 30/08/2004 10:01

Isn't it incredible how many people just don't get the car safety thing.
I mean we'll be lugging our carseat all the way to Egypt for the shuttle ride to and from the airport with the resort people.
We don't have a car but bought a car seat (albeit second hand but we did know the people)for the odd occasion that we might need it. It is surprising how often you do too.

They're great pics Yorkiegirl . DD2 looks very happy next to her sister!

hewlettsdaughter · 30/08/2004 12:28

Chuffed - we don't have a car either but we have a car seat from my sister.

Fennel · 30/08/2004 20:02

Yorkiegirl - cute pics and clever of you to be able to post them anonymously!

dd3 seems very hungry, lots of milk feeds but not desperately into her solids. After a week she's only taking a spoonful or two once or twice a day. And waking at 5am every day. am not sure what else to do - just be patient and tired? Add in some formula?

HD - I have been known to strap a baby in a sling in the back of a car when accepting a lift with someone . But would be very angry if a childminder did it - it's their job to be ultra-careful.

am finding the thought of leaving dd3 at nursery easier after an extremely long tiring rainy bank holiday weekend. in fact the idea of all 3 going to full time childcare and then an evening and weekend nanny/au pair seems quite tempting just now.

bluecow · 30/08/2004 21:58

Fennel and yorkiegirl - your girls are very beautiful. And so are their names.

Hewlettsdaughter - homeopathic teething granules have worked with both my children. Calgel just tends to go everywhere doesn't it?

Proud of ds - after major tantrum over not wanting nappy on last week the next day at nursery he asked to use the potty and did a wee. Wasn't there to witness the big moment but the nursery staff were all pretty amazed cos he's still quite young for potty training.

Have let him run round without nappy a couple of times since and of course have had great time cleaning up wee and poo!

LucyJones · 30/08/2004 22:09

Hi everyone. YorkieGirl - don't your two girls look alike already?!! They're gorgeous

Metrobaby · 30/08/2004 22:35

hi everyone - not posted for ages either. I loved seeing the photos btw Fennel and YorkieGirl. The names of your dds are lovely - very unusual. I am inspired now to set some up too.

How was everyone's bank holiday ? We had a fairly relaxed one. Everything was going OK until poor ds got stung by a bee on his finger. I was beside myself with worry and in tears as poor ds was howling in agony. I am scared stiff of bees and wasps too. Thankfully ds seems to be OK but for ages tonight I couldn't put him down. How silly am I heh?

I have started to wean ds too. He's only having a tablespoon worth though. I thought I'd take it very slowly. So far he's had good old baby rice, pear, apple and carrott. Carrott seems to be a particular fave with him, whereas apple is a bit of a no-no. What solids are your dds/ds' favourites and dislikes?

MrsDoolittle · 30/08/2004 23:52

Hi Ladies.
I loved looking at your pictures yorkiegirl, they are beautiful and your dd's look so alike.

Dd starts nursery practice tomorrow. I just hope it's going to be okay, I am winding myself up about it something chronic!

I haven't got such to add really. Dd has been entertaining my two sisters with her giggling this weekend. They can't believe how much she has grown since they saw her two weeks ago.It was my sisters hen weekend so dh and I stayed nearby and he looked after dd while I was downing cocktails in the afternoon. I still managed to park myself infront of the tv to bf and watch Kelly Holmes win her fabulous second gold medal though!!
I think the mixed feeding is well underway now. Dd will have baby meusli for breakfast and something like carrot and babyrice for tea with lots of bottle in between. I cooked a swede for her to go through the weekend but she was most unimpressed with this, no matter how much babyrice I added. So we resorted to the 'default', otherwise known as mashed banana which she loves!

Oh well, and so my wonderful months with my beautiful baby come to an end. Another chapter begins...............

Fennel · 31/08/2004 20:39

Mrs D - how did nursery go?

think dd3 may be getting teeth too. she has a sharp nip suddenly. we have a cupboardful of every teething gel - calgel, bongela, several homeopathic ones. I generally use Calpol though it works fast and thoroughly. but the others didn't teeth this young so they'd already had more calpol.

dot1 · 31/08/2004 21:02

Hope nursery went OK Mrs D - can't believe how quickly our time at home has gone...

Ds is now eating Weetabix + banana for breakfast ( I know, I know, he's not 6 months old, but he was getting through about 2 boxes of baby cereal a week and we couldn't afford to keep him..!). He loves butternut squash, parsnip, sweet potato and carrot for lunch - any combination really. Then has pear and apple for tea, with sometimes a fromage frais for afters!

He's still waking up at 4am-ish though... Last night we buckled down to the controlled crying again - with firmer resolve. He cried until 6am and then I had to wake him at 7.30am. Still, we're going to keep at it - with all the food and milk he's having he really doesn't need a feed at night and last night proved it really, as although he cried he didn't have a feed until I woke him.

Ho hum - feeling horrible - because of tiredness and generally feeling like a wicked mummy, but he WILL start to sleep through by the end of the week...

hewlettsdaughter · 01/09/2004 14:20

Thanks for replies re products for teething. Metrobaby - your ds got stung! ouch!
I still haven't started dd on 'solids' yet - but I think I will do before 6 months as she will go to a childminder then (and I don't know if she will take a bottle yet).
MrsD - did you stay at nursery with dd? When do you start work?

hewlettsdaughter · 01/09/2004 14:26

Fennel - re your dd and solids - presumably she'll start taking more soon and things will settle down? Are you trying her with different tastes or just rice at the mo?

MrsDoolittle · 01/09/2004 16:16

Well yesterday we visited the nursery and today I had to leave her there for two WHOLE hours! The problem is all mine though, dd is so chilled out she just smiled and chuckled at everyone enjoying the attention. Then she fell asleep on the baby gym. Today when I left her they told me more of the same, although she didn't sleep. No surprise there - she never really did get into the habit of sleeping unless we were in the car or buggying around. Does anyone else have babies that seem to do alot of squealing when they are happy? She's so funny. When I picked her up she seemed to have so much to tell me, grinning and squealing
The solid feeing is going well. Like her mother, it looks like dd ain't going to be too fussy! A few more tries with the swede and we're sorted.
I haven't noticed anything like teething yet. She does dribble alot and she sucks her fingers but it doesn't seem to upset her. Is your baby unhappy Fennel?
Like yours dot, dd is waking once during the night. I have let her grumble but I'm too tired to listen to her for long. I always end up bringing her into bed with me, feeding her for 15 minutes ,then she burps and I put her back into her cot and off she goes to sleep again. I don't know if she needs a feed or whether it is habit so I haven't the confidence to let her cry. She sounds like Chuffeds' baby. I am just hoping that she starts sleeping through again soon.
Work is fine. My boss is so excellent, telling me to take it easy to get into the swing of things again.
How about anyone else?
Can't believe you are still bf exclusively HD! That's amazing

Fennel · 01/09/2004 18:01

good to hear the nursery is OK Mrs D. my dd3 is happy at hers too and of course it makes it easier to leave her.

HD - didn't you stop at 12 weeks with first baby and were thinking of doing so again? or was that someone else?

dd3 isn't seeming in pain but nips me sharply, and I wonder if that's partly why she's not into the solids much. she has fed a bit less and slept a bit longer the last 2 days so things seem easier.

saw dot again today and met each others' DPs! it is bizarre meeting people who already know so much about you.

Fennel · 01/09/2004 18:02

HD - have tried rice, banana, apple and potato so far. nursery tried carrot. no hot favourites yet. she likes milk the best.

Fennel · 01/09/2004 18:40

also meant to say, besides being bizarre it was of course very nice meeting dot and her dp! hope my post didn't imply otherwise
