Do you think I should be worried? He fell asleep in the car around 1.45 ISH. Woke briefly during cot transfer at 2.15. Not heard a peep since. He is breathing....I checked

Sorry for disappearing. It's been a full on day. All ok. Housemate wasn't happy with the irritability, crying, temperature (39.1°) and a few other things.

He was fuming that they didn't send an ambulance and said as a paramedic he'd happily be called out to a toddler in that state.

As it so happens, we were seen by a lovely ooh doctor and it was really quiet up there so we only waited for five minutes. He's absolutely fine. Ears slightly red but she thinks a urine infection. She wasn't happy with his pulse being so quick so I had to go for an early morning stroll around the hospital to see if he'd calm.

Unfortunately DH had to go to work as he was key holder and the doctor was concerned about me dealing with both boys on my own today. She even put Peppa pig on her tablet to mind the boys while she was talking to me. The lady next door has been amazing.

He seems over the worst now but I've not been able to collect a urine sample yet. He's in bed now and who knows how long he'll be there for! I have work at five so DH can handle the boys on his own for a while.

The thermometer issue - we have one somewhere. Usually use the one belonging to my resident paramedic from his kit. I generally find you can tell if they have a temperature or not. Although DH said Ds was 'a bit warm' when he went to him and his temperature was over 39. Lesson learned - only I can do the kiss test. He was definitely hot enough to warrant using a thermometer, unlike the evening

So relieved to read he is on the mend

NotUmbongoUnchained · 04/09/2018 15:01

Always use the thermometer. Kiss test? Are you serious? I say this as the mother of a child who HAS had meningitis.

Quartz2208 · 04/09/2018 15:40

Is he on antibiotics now - UTIs can be v v nasty a friends child is in hospital with one at the moment needed iv antibiotics and temp out of control

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 04/09/2018 15:49

Glad to hear your little boy is improving Flowers
Read a dreadful thread this morning, about a 2 year old falling - sad & shocking outcome Sad

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey

Yes, I read that one too and have been feeling so incredibly sad about it all day. That poor family.

Quartz2208 · 04/09/2018 15:53

@otters I am not sure about the veracity of that thread given the deletion message

bobstersmum · 04/09/2018 15:56

I wondered what happened with that thread, I don't get a deletion message, it just says check your connection! I thought it was my phone. So it wasn't true? I cried about that this morning!

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 04/09/2018 16:21

Just 're-read the deletion message about the other thread. Don't wish to comment at the moment. Will wait to see if there's any further information.

Prusik · 05/09/2018 09:19

Im not entirely sure I understand the hysteria from some about the thermometer. Surely there's a degree of common sense that most parents use. My hands are always cold therefore a quick kiss on the back of the neck tells me if he's abnormally warm or not. Then I decide whether he's warm enough to take his temp. A parent knows when their kid is running a fever without a thermometer, surely?

PattiStanger · 05/09/2018 09:24

Glad to hear he's OK, I never had a thermometer either but a paramedic housemate has got to trump anyone's home medical kit Smile

BuntyII · 05/09/2018 09:38

Glad he's ok. Just use a thermometer in future it takes 2 seconds.
