High chair

Hello!
Soon to start weaning (early due to cmpa) and I’m needing a high chair. There is so much choice though! Shock Has anyone got any tips or advice on what to look for or any recommendations please?
We don’t have masses of storage.
Thank you! Flowers

You either want the Ikea antilop or the Fisher price booster, which straps to a chair. Or one of the tripp trapp kind which convert a to a normalchair and grows with the child.

I would not even look at anything else. They're all monstrous to clean and take up huge amounts of room.

pastabest · 11/05/2018 14:51

You are going to get a bazillion posts saying the ikea antilop.

Don't get a mama and papas pesto. Impossible to clean because of all the tiny hairline joins , the seat cushion can't go in the washing machine.

If you don't go for the antilop look for something that doesn't have lots of holes and joins, which has removable and machine washable cushions and straps.

NannyR · 11/05/2018 14:51

You'll end up with pages of posts all saying Antilop!!
Seriously, it's a cheap, very easy to keep clean, simple high chair.
You don't need fancy reclining features and all the padding on expensive chairs makes them a pain to keep clean.

Cosatto noodle supa high chair.

I would of gone for the ikea one but it doesn't fold and we're short of space.

Smellybears · 11/05/2018 14:53

We can’t have one that straps to a chair as we only have a breakfast bar and the stools are high up but have a low back on them

Antilop!

Or anything without horrible nooks and crannies which will just gather yucky baby smoosh. My sister has a mama and papas antilop copy which has some pink on and cost at least twice as much.

AlbusPercival · 11/05/2018 14:55

Yep agree with previous posters.
We have antilop at grandmas. It goes on dishwasher, legs come off to transport it, brilliant.

At home we gave a Tripp trapp. Not as useful to you though as I don’t think it would go as high as a breakfast bar

Smellybears · 11/05/2018 14:59

Lots of recommendations for the ikea one! Is the cushion that can be bought separate washable does anyone know? Also, is the tray close enough to baby? I’ve read reviews on different high chairs and people saying tray wasn’t close enough (can’t remember which one I’ve looked at that many!)

We have this:

www.amazon.co.uk/Keter-Multi-Dine-Chair-6M-48M/dp/B01DAF8M2Y?tag=mumsnetforum-21

It’s pricey, but the legs store into the chair itself which is great when travelling. When the legs are stored it can be strapped to a seat.

stressedmumm · 11/05/2018 15:01

I think this one is good from adds george it's free click and collect to and £12 it was £9 afew weeks ago in baby event this high chair normally goes down to £9-£10 in the baby event it's worth it tho

As it turns into a junior seat for later on very easy to clean and very sturdy and a bargain

Smellybears · 11/05/2018 15:01

Typed ikea antilop into google and an asda Bebe style came up, has anyone tried this?

gruffalopuffalo · 11/05/2018 15:01

I have one which is similar to the Antilop but has a 5 point harness and foot rest. It's called the bebestyle classic I think, and it's often on offer for £12 in Asda. Easy to wipe down 3 times a day. Borrowed one with a cushion once and was so glad I'd not spent my money on that as the food was trapped everywhere and they're really not in it long enough to need it all cushioned anyway - it's not like they sleep in it!

Smellybears · 11/05/2018 15:02

Stressedmum I posted that without seeing your recommendation, how spooky!!

I think the cushion is inflatable, so it just wipes down? Can't remember now.

NannyR · 11/05/2018 15:05

If you need something to work with a breakfast bar, would a clip on high chair work? It would mean that the baby is sitting at the same level as everyone else at mealtimes.

stressedmumm · 11/05/2018 15:14

@Smellybears lol yes it is, I honestly think this will be better for you as it will later convert into a junior chair so once your little one no longer needs to be in a high chair can use as a seat

There's loads of reviews on the website

It's a bargain and I honestly don't think you need to spend loads on high chairs this one is easy to clean and quite similar to the Ikea one xx

pastabest · 11/05/2018 15:15

Yes the inflatable wipe clean plastic cushions are fine. It's the faux fabric cushions with waterproof backing that are 'wipe clean' only and stain at the mere sight of tomato sauce or banana that are the problem.

Wiping clean does not get out tomato sauce stains from fabric.

Smellybears · 11/05/2018 15:22

Can you get an insert for the asda chair?

OP posts:
Cutesbabasmummy · 11/05/2018 17:44

Antilop!

Fluffybat · 11/05/2018 17:55

Asda do one very similar to Ikea one for £10. It's amazing. I had cossatto one before and my ds hated it. Got this and he loves if. A dream to clean!

Fluffybat · 11/05/2018 17:56

The Asda Bebe one is the one we have. Love it!

Smellybears · 11/05/2018 18:51

I’m liking the look of it as it can be cleaned thoroughly. Just wanting to know if I can purchase some sort of cushioning for it?

OP posts:
buffysummers4 · 11/05/2018 19:25

You can use a rolled up towel instead of any specially made padding/insert.... then just stick in washing machine

NannyR · 11/05/2018 19:31

The Antilop cushion would work, I've seen parents use them in those wooden highchairs in restaurants too. However if you're going to Ikea to buy the cushion you may as well buy the chair there too as the asda one and Ikea one are practically identical.
