High chair

Hello!
Soon to start weaning (early due to cmpa) and I’m needing a high chair. There is so much choice though! Shock Has anyone got any tips or advice on what to look for or any recommendations please?
We don’t have masses of storage.
Thank you! Flowers

The noodle, is that not difficult to clean? Is it wipe clean only the padded cushion?

Oh right, no that aldi one looks no good :)

Not sure if it's been mentioned already but we had a Baby Bjorn one. They are super pricey and I wouldn't pay full price but I managed to get one on Gumtree for peanuts. For a small baby it's very good for holding them upright and there are no straps, cushions etc to clean. And it folds up v small. Still using it for our still small 2 year old now!

@Smellybears yes the cosatto is unfortunately wipe clean only, but that isn't really an issue to me, especially because the tray is close enough to leave no gap (so most chucked food ends up on the floor 🙄, but I do find that easier than wiping down a screaming baby who hates to be cleaned!). I think there's always a compromise on things like high chairs and prams etc so I think you just need to work out which thing you would be more willing to compromise on.

Really do like the look of the baby Bjorne. It is expensive, husband likes unusual pricey things though so I know when I show it to him he will like it!

It was actually my DH who wanted the BabyBjorn, a friend brought hers when she came to lunch with her child and DH was in raptures over the design, he thought it was unusual/stylish/clever.

There's usually loads going for cheap on the Facebook marketplace, and you can sell them on for what you paid when you've finished with them.

I love our babyBjorn. It cleans so easily, the no-straps mechanism is cool, it looks super smart and it folds up small. My DH had to be convinced because it is so pricey, but I found a reasonably priced one on eBay and now he's a total convert!

Some things to consider - some of the fancy suction plates I bought don't fit on it, so check before you buy. I read reviews that it's supposed to fit kids up to 3, but realistically 2 is more likely. My lo is tall, so we'll see here long it lasts. The legs are also shorter than I expected so it wouldn't work next to a dining table. That's fine for us, it's the perfect height when we eat on the sofa, but it's something to consider.

I absolutely love it though, wouldn't trade it for anything. And I LOVE how easy it is to clean.

Or this one?! ShockHmm

I second/ third/ fourth the antilop.

Smellybears · 14/05/2018 20:33

MsStink my husband has actually looked at that one but I had to persuade him not to spend that much on a high chair!! 😂 it was the ‘cheaper’ version though but still ridiculous amount!

Ikea is actually a great baby outing if you go during the day on a weekday. Babies LOVE all the colours. Keeps my wee one quiet for ages. Plus they do free baby food in the restaurant (Ellas fruit pouches, dairy free). Would recommend a trip there with baby in the carrier.

Oh and their high chair is fab. Get the inflatable cushion and 2 covers for it so that you can have one in the wash and one on the chair.

mintbiscuit · 14/05/2018 20:42

I don’t like the antilop for permanent use (ok for occasional).

It doesn’t teach babies to sit correctly as their legs dangle. And I think it must pretty uncomfortable having your legs dangle too.

I’m a tripp trapp convert. They work from tinies through to teens. Easy to clean. Baby can eat at table. Durable. Great resale value. But more importantly best for posture at all ages. Bloody expensive though. I’ll definitely be using ours up until kids are teens so I figure I’m going to get my moneys worth Grin

TheExhausted · 14/05/2018 20:53

We have the Ikea Antilop at home and this one for Grandmas www.argos.co.uk/product/6868882 which is very similar to the Antilop and near identical to the argos one. I prefer the Antilop as the tray is bigger so DS throws less and DS is constantly trying to climb out of highchairs with a footrest. 5 point harnesses also gets in the way of cover all bibs if you're doing baby led weaning. The Ikea insert has a removable cover that I just chuck in the wash.

moggle · 14/05/2018 21:03

The Bebe style one and also the Argos Cuggl pickle both correct two problems I find with the antilop, the lack of a foot rest and 3 point instead of 5 point harness so a child can stand up on the seat.
We had an antilop for our DD but now we have twins and I’m definitely not going to have two taking up space in our kitchen. I’m looking at various clip on high chairs and ones that strap to dining chairs.

BertieBotts · 14/05/2018 21:21

Oh god that John Lewis one is the ugliest thing I have seen! My eyes! Sorry Smelly's DH Grin

For the ones which strap to a chair I can't rate the Fisher Price one highly enough. It did DS from four months to 3 years (at first with the play tray, later for food) and it fitted him brilliantly at every stage. The chair it straps to provides a footrest. He didn't sit up until nine months and it was really supportive. They also regularly go on discount at Argos. The only thing I'd caution is that it wrecks your chairs because the child constantly spills and grinds food into them, but that happens when they're toddlers anyway.

BertieBotts · 14/05/2018 21:23

Oh nooo! They don't do it any more - I don't mean the grow with me one, I mean this one. I bet you can get them on ebay as well. Everything washes down so no worries about second hand.
