Ok, the thread's too long for me to something similar has been covered, but you seem quite impressed with it, so.......

DS2+3, 10 and 8, can sometimes be a pita at bedtime. (Sometimes aided and abetted by DS1).

They're loud and boisterous lads, and tbh most of the time they're only sitting talking, but they're soooo loud.

The problem is DH sometimes has vvv early starts and often goes to bed before them, and then is kept awake by their nattering.

What should we be saying to them to get them to show some consideration, be quieter, and ultimately go to blardy sleep?

want to know what I did?

Now boco I already adopt a number of accents for the HP characters - MadEye is from B'ham, Hagrid from Dorset etc. etc. so I went back and read it WITHOUT accents and kind of monotone and said if I have to concerntrate so hard on getting every word right Ihave to do it like this and then ds said - oh I like it better before I won't correct you.

Oh god I am a prize bitch aren't I?

Enid · 30/05/2007 21:11

still over senstive?

foxinsocks · 30/05/2007 21:11

how's your dd1 enid?

LordVenger · 30/05/2007 21:11

There are a great many children's book authors who confuse "a relatively minor incident of little consequence" with "a gripping narrative worthy of note."

oliveoil · 30/05/2007 21:12

yes

but I have read that book and have slightly changed my ways with her

still DREADFUl at parties or social events

GlassSlipper · 30/05/2007 21:12

still giggling at bodypopping

Help:

me: shall we read DD2 a book?

DD1 : yes.

me : ok, lets start.

DD1 : NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I wanted to turn the pages. Scream, scream, wail wail. Runs out of room, shouting " i wanted to turn the pages".

me - come back and turn the darn pages then. hmmph.

DD1 - Nooooo. strop strop.

help....

Enid · 30/05/2007 21:13

oh yes

that will come though oo

pander to it

oliveoil · 30/05/2007 21:13

what is sad is that dd2 has just started at her playgroup and if we see anyone in the park they come running over to dd2 and ignore dd1

and she has known them for nearly 2 years

she is lovely though and my little peach

I cant believe you are going to watch BB, tsk

Enid · 30/05/2007 21:15

foxy - my dd1 has blown me away this weekend (on holiday iwth friends) by being the most sweet, helpful, tolerant, funny, grown-up child who is an absolute pleasure to be with . still can't spell for shite though

but...but...is now reading proper books (ie not fucking apple tree farm). To herself

dd3 however is grumpy stroppy nightmare

swings and roundabouts

oliveoil · 30/05/2007 21:17

dd1 is also pleasure to be with, she is so good

book mentions this though and says be aware as they are perfectionists

dd2 is nightmare

agree on swings and roundabouts

dh wants computer now, so I will say goodbye

xx

Enid · 30/05/2007 21:17

yes my dd2 seemingly more social and confident

although developing slightly weird brainy kid persona

foxinsocks · 30/05/2007 21:17

enid - how fantastic! Spelling, schmelling - it will come, she's still little.

Enid · 30/05/2007 21:19

well not harry potter

but she has terry jones fantastic stories and she read me The Cake Horse todya

perfectly

is amazing amazing amazing (has happened in last 2 weeks)

foxinsocks · 30/05/2007 21:21

that is amazing (and what a relief for you). It is a real light switch moment. There'll be no looking back now .

GlassSlipper · 30/05/2007 21:29

Sorry to interrupt the merits of Apple Tree Farm. Very tiresome series. I thought it was great when we first found them but a year on it is rough....

...but, can anyone advise what I should do with my threenager?

foxinsocks · 30/05/2007 21:36

just let her turn the pages

if she turns too early, just don't go back (end up leaving out half the story - she may get the message eventually )

they are in bed quicker and you can escape quicker - result all round

GlassSlipper · 30/05/2007 21:37

thanks fox. Trouble is she stops just about 1 millisecond after I have started and therefore I cannot 'undo' the original page turn and therefore it is the end of the world....obviously.

foxinsocks · 30/05/2007 21:40

I should put a disclaimer in there and say that that answer has nothing to do with the book

book would acknowledge her sad feelings

'you wanted to turn the pages'
nodding

'but I am sad because I want to read you a story and I can't read you the story if you turn the pages'
hopefully nodding

'so you turn the pages and mummy doesn't read the story or let's cuddle up nicely and read it together'

GlassSlipper · 30/05/2007 21:43

sorry 'stops' should have been 'strops'

GlassSlipper · 30/05/2007 21:43

ok, will try and be patient and understanding...

foxinsocks · 30/05/2007 21:45

actually, leave out the 'so you turn the pages and mummy doesn't read the story' bit. She's only 3. She doesn't need options .
