I am secretly very unreasonable about people who live in cities who do not vaccinate their children.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
gess · 29/04/2007 21:33

I vaccinated my first child. But then he became vaccine damaged. There's lots of things he'll never do. I haven't vaccinated ds2 or ds3 because I don't want the same thing to happen to them. I'll have to ask them when they're older whether they think that's selfish or not.

I agree Hillls, but I guess it was the opening post!

lady007pink · 29/04/2007 21:38

That's awful, gess. You never hear any of this from doctors when you're bringing your child to be vaccinated! One interesting theory my aunt had was about three people in our town who developed MS - they're the same age and she wonders if it could have been a bad batch used in their vaccinations!
It didn't do any of her children any harm not being vaccinated.

nappyaddict · 29/04/2007 21:38

what vaccine was it?

True gess, the debate on vaccintaing and non vaccinating will always be a debate and one which is rarely calm.

nappyaddict · 29/04/2007 21:40

i take my baby to the pub what's wrong with that? (its no smoking)

i also ignore my crying baby when i want him to go to sleep.

Twinklemegan · 29/04/2007 21:41

Little tiny babies with pierced ears. Bad enough if it's a girl, outrageous if it's a boy.

yellowrose · 29/04/2007 21:44

If we ALL stopped vaccinating, then yes it would be extremely selfish because we would be putting the lives of our own children and everyone elses' at serious risk of dying from a preventable illness.

The only reason unvaccinated children have nothing to worry about is that every other child they come into contact with IS vaccinated.

electra · 29/04/2007 21:47

yellowrose. That's not necessarily true. Would you put your child at risk to save another? I doubt you would.

gess · 29/04/2007 21:50

well that rubbish. We see 3 families regularly. 2 of those families have unvaccinted children (one for the same reason as me). TBH my main concern is that at least some of my children grow up able to speak. I certainly don't feel they have nothing to worry about.

Agree Hillls, which is why I read this thread repeatedly before posting and why I'm leaving it now . That's interesting ladypink-I would say more but I really don;t want to get drawn into a discussion about it- but it ties in with some stuff we've noticed in our family.

Hillls · 29/04/2007 21:52

Yellowrose if an unvaccinated child comes into contact with a vaccinated child they can contract the illness through your vaccinated childs wee, poo and saliva due to the disease passing through your childs body be it a live vaccination or not.

I am currently going through vaccine advice due to having our puppy immunised, subsequently the pup has now had to leave us for 6 weeks so we will not become effected and this was on the advice of a vaccine manufacturer.

So yes our children are still at risk thank you.

Twinklemegan · 29/04/2007 21:55

Please take the vaccination argument off this thread.

electra · 29/04/2007 21:57

thing is, it's kind of what started the thread twinklemegan.

yellowrose · 29/04/2007 21:57

yes, and my vaccinated child is at higher risk if he comes into contact with an unvaccinated child. so it works both ways i am afraid.

Twinklemegan · 29/04/2007 21:58

Ah - should have read the OP!

nappyaddict · 29/04/2007 21:58

gess could you email please? my cousin was vaccine damaged and now cannot talk or really do much for himself. my address is tobys_mummy at btinternet dot com

electra · 29/04/2007 21:58

How does that work yellowrose? If your child is vaccinated and the vaccination works why would you be worried about unvaccinated children?

yellowrose · 29/04/2007 21:59

why ? the op started it and i agree with her.

Twinklemegan · 29/04/2007 22:00

x-posted yellowrose. I agree too FWIW but don't want to get into an argument right now.

colditz · 29/04/2007 22:01

BUNFIGHT AMMO

Hillls · 29/04/2007 22:02

Your child is still at risk vaccinated or not, gess vaccinated her child then her child became vaccine damaged, just because your child was uneffected its not the same for everyone. Three generations of my family have not been vaccinated due to adverse effects. Vaccines are not all they are cracked up to be.

colditz · 29/04/2007 22:02

Sorry I didn't mean to yawp!

colditz · 29/04/2007 22:02

Please

yellowrose · 29/04/2007 22:03

electra - if half the population all of a sudden decided NOT to vaccinate, then even children who are vaccinated will be at risk of epidemics. vaccines are not 100% effective, surely people know this ?

the only reason we don't have the sort of killer epidemics which we still sadly see in less developed, poor countries who can not afford vaccines, is that the vast majority of us ARE vaccinated. that is how it works.

Hillls · 29/04/2007 22:05

VMD

Information I have to fill in due to adverse reactons from vaccines in our dog.

Londonmamma · 29/04/2007 22:06

Lady007 - I LOVED the description of your aunt!
I knew a mum of five whose kids ran next door one day to excitedly tell the neighbour their mum was 'heating up the clothes'. They'd never seen her ironing before. Like your aunt, she just piled up all the laundry in one room and the first one in got the pick of the clothes that day!!
