I'm glad you got a decent nights sleep Georgina, but it is sad to see them becoming proper babies instead of newborns. Especially when you know this is going to be your last. DS is 3 months today He's bursting out of 3-6 month sleepsuits, and can pretty much control his head when sitting upright. And he makes proper cooing sounds. But I miss my helpless little snuffly ball of a baby . And I even miss the middle of the night feeds -it was lovely to cuddle him and feel like we were the only two people awake anywhere. (not that that is an invitation to him to start waking now)

kbaby · 27/07/2004 12:00

prufrock ill happily lend you dd for a few middle of the night feeds. she'll reward you with lots of midnight smiles..

can i have a baby who sleeps please. im jelous of you all.

I wish I had got a decent night's sleep! Couldn't sleep for ages because I was listening intently to the monitor, terrified he was going to suffer cot death the first night he didn't sleep in my room!

It gets worse... ds1 has today started sitting on the big toilet rather than using his potty, so he's no longer my baby either... sniffle

God, I'm so pathetic.

yes we have blackout blinds. We had them fitted just before dd was born. I stopped swaddling and bought a grobag due to the health visitor scaring me about cot death and swaddling. But I think it wont be long and we may be going back to swaddling.
If im feeling brave enough I may put DD in her own room tonight. Just dont know if I have the courage

prufrock · 27/07/2004 17:38

Do it kbaby. Honestly, if she needs you you will hear her. She is fast asleep whilst she is kicking and restless - it's just you that's awake!

What makes a no naps during the day baby suddenly change his mind and snooze for nearly 4 hours having woken late at 9am?. I had to wake him on purpose as he would've carried on. He has had his bath and a feed and is now out cold again! Can a baby sleep too much?

Oh worry, worry, worry . . .

libb · 27/07/2004 21:21

I also feel guilty because I haven't used all this free time to do practical things - after a quick tidy I watched films when I should've started looking into childcare options and other practical stuff . . . .

I've also killed an ongoing thread

He's so adorable I stay awake just to remind myself every now and again!

Thanks for reminding me of the obvious stuff - paranoia and worry can be a terrible burden!

libb · 27/07/2004 22:15

It is chuffing hot too - DS is just in his babygro tonight too, but he has blankets to chuck over if it cools. He seems to be dozing at the moment and occasionally lifting a finger to the ceiling, strange lad.

He took in a lot of faces at the weekend so perhaps that could be a reason too - I can't see us having an all nighter tonight though! pity because not waking until 5.30 this morning then the sleepy nap until 9 after DP went to work was bliss.

libb · 27/07/2004 22:21

I confess my main reason for worrying was because he had a trace of blood in his nappies yesterday but none appearing today - however no change in general behaviour and HV couldn't give a cause so not sure. The poor bear.

Bozza · 27/07/2004 22:30

Twiglett I too seem to have warm children - much warmer than DH and me. DS is wearing short pjs and always asking to be covered in a cot sheet rather than his duvet. DD is wearing a babygro tonight (only a vest last night) and is covered to below the arms in a sheet. At baby clinic today she was the only child without a vest and was wearing the very popular lilac shorts and top set.

DD seems to be dropping down the centiles at the moment but DS did this and I think that I just have unnaturally big babies who level out once they are born.

GeorginaA · 28/07/2004 08:20

Ds2 was in a grobag (1.0 tog) and vest last night... am I overheating him? looks panicked

He woke at 5am for a feed this morning and hasn't gone to sleep again. I predict he's going to finally doze off around 9am when he's due for his DTaP and polio. sigh. It's so not going to be a good day today...

oh gawd, i am swaddling dd, she must be boiling. only trouble is there is no way she will sleep without her arms being strapped down! she gnaws and wakes herself up every few minutes. once i wrap them up, i give her my finger to suck, which stops her jerking them out again, calms her down and sends her off to sleep. when she wakes after 3 hours she once again jerks her arms out and even after a feed, wont go back to sleep without them being wrapped. oh what to do?!

jabs today - [tearful face]*

hope she just sleeps it off. ahhh

definitely improved sleep with blackout blinds, although took her an hour and a half to fall asleep (swaddling thing going on). but woke at 12,3,6,7 dh left for work at 5 and for ONCE didnt wake her. how can somebody make SO much noise putting on a shirt???

Egypt · 28/07/2004 08:21

just want to point out that we had NO sun here yesterday just rain, clouds and drizzle all day, so it was not hot. i am not trying to cook my child sposed to be a scorcher today though....but dr karp says that if you feel their ears and they are slightly cool to the touch (feel your own now, you'll see) they are fine. if they are warm, then too hot...

GeorginaA · 28/07/2004 11:43

Good tip, Egypt!

Has anyone else found that a nursery thermometer doesn't seem to be a good indicator of what to put on them? It's regularly showing as 24C in our house, yet dh and I sometimes need the duvet on our bed, or just the thinner throw, or nothing at all... so it must be the same for the babes. Am constantly worried that he's too hot or too cold!

OP posts:
Egypt · 28/07/2004 13:01

yes, our grobag thermometer says either 21 or 24, or both! there is no in between. i think that as long as they don't seem bothered they are fine.

dd had her jabs today - i feel awful. she screamed so much now she is a cryey baby. never usually is, poor thing. have managed to distract her finally with her toys, but she really is not a happy bunny

GeorginaA · 28/07/2004 13:04

We've got a Boots digital thermometer, but it still seems to be more humidity than temperature that makes a difference to comfort.

Ds2 isn't happy either, he's had so little sleep and any he's had has been in my arms He had the DTaP and polio today...

Took dd through to Glasgow to feel a future friend through the bulging stomach wall of my old mucker Karen. She (dd not Karen) was so good on trains... watched everything fly by through the window, made a nice baby noise then fell asleep on my shoulder. I imagined everyone on the train thinking how they wanted a lovely baby like that one over there (but they were probably all wondering if that was them being referred to in today's Metro letterbag...)

We have doctor's appt. to discuss jabs in 20 mins. Dag mardybottom nammit.

No thoughts of moving this one into her own room yet. I can't be ars'd stumbling through in the middle of the night for feeds; would rather have her next to us in pram as she has been so far. She wakes three times in the night still.

Going up north tomorrow... getting one of those groovy pop up travel cots!

kbaby · 28/07/2004 17:48

We had jabs today and she screamed straight after but then went back to sleep. my poor little lamb, I think i wanted to cry more than her. It was 24c on our digital thermometer so we swaddled dd with just a sleeveless vest on, but its warmer today so not sure what we're going to do tonight. May have to go without swaddle and have a sleepless night.
I was brave and moved DD to her own room(arent I a terrible mother) i felt so bad doing it and am convinced that she will have sids and it will be because she was in her own room. But I did sleep better. We only woke at 12.30, 4.30 6.00(bought into bed with me) 7.30 and then we both got up at 8.30
