glad you had a better night kbaby. thats made me feel better about putting her in her own room when we get back from my mums. i've put dd to bed with just a short sleeve bodysuit and a light cotton blanket over her and tucked in at the sides of the mattress, to make it as tight as poss, but her arms are out by the sides of her head and she is asleep. lots of crying again tonight though. thought we had cracked that. never mind.

Twiglett, thanks for the tips - DS took his jabs rather well for a first time pin cushion but am still not looking forward the next set . . . . so will bear your words of wisdom in mind next time.

We have just put DS upstairs with baby monitor on for the first time ever tonight at 9.30ish, without letting him doze off on mum and then plonk him in basket and be carted upstairs. Went up awake and has yelled a little but all is quiet now, he had a busy evening next door socialising with another DS who is 7 weeks older so is cream crackered! still, its a start. Must get over the overwhelming desire to check on him every moment and creak every floorboard to get there . . . . is that monitor working properly?! oh gawd

Did I mention that I might miss carting my newborn little DS upstairs in his basket, as he beginning to weigh a ton - and I have also noticed the difference between people cooing over the "he's 4 weeks old" baby and the people cooing over the "he's 11 weeks old" baby - my newborn is disappearing . . . .

well dd2 had her screening and jabs today. She now weighs 12lbs 1 0z. I know that I shouldn't compare her to dd1 but I just can't help sneaking a peek at dd1's baby book to see what she was at the same stage. just incase your interested, which I'm sure your not but I'm going to tell you all anyway, dd1 was 2lbs lighter at this stage but the same length and head circumference, so dd2 isn't really all that bigger. I guess with it being such a big age gap I just don't remember very well.

Anyway, onto the jabs. dd2 got weighed then dr checked her over then we got the jabs. I asked for the infanrix, fully expecting a big discussion and had all my literature with me highlighted at all the important points, and when I said that I wanted the infanrix the HV explained a bit about it then went and got it, no problem. Felt a bit miffed about not getting to whip out my nicely highlighted bits of paper but hey ho. Dh held dd2 while she got her jabs and she screamed after she got them then settled down to sleep. Missed her feed that she was supposed to get which coincided with the jabs but she had it later on and so far she's been fine. Came home, played on her mat, gave everyone big smiles and stories, had her bedtime bottle and went to sleep quite happily. I'm fully expecting her to get up through the night now after such a good evening. She got the DTap, Hib and polio today and we've to go back in 2 weeks time for the MenC. And I also got an immunisation today. The dr checked my records and told me that my polio was needing a booster so I got to have polio as well and it was icky, tasted horrible. I remember when I got it at school they gave you the drops on a sugar cube, not at the dr's they don't!

Spots you're so brave going on the train to GLasgow. We were going to go to Glasgow yesterday but didn't get organised in time so went to the park instead. Will have to go next week, dd1 wants to go to the science museum, I want to go to the shops, so much better in Glasgow then where I stay. I'm a bit worried for some reason about going all the way there, don't know why as dh will be with us and we took dd1 to Glasgow when she was a lot younger. Maybe it's because we have to keep track of dd1 as well as getting the pram on the train, find seats etc, feels like more hassle than it's worth sometimes.

Had a hot and sticky day here yesterday, Very humid as well. Today was still hot and sticky but hazy and cloudy so didn't see the sun.

Oh and dd2 managed to find her thumb today problem is she's not sure what to do with the rest of her fingers so we have to watch that she's not poking herself in the eye. So far her eyes are ok but she has managed to scratch the side of her nose. I suppose she'll figure out how to curl her fingers in after a few days.

and Egypt loved the tip about feeling their ears to check temperature, made dh check his when I read it, lol he gave me a look that said, ok I'll just humour her, lol Going to check dd2's ears now

GeorginaA · 29/07/2004 08:10

I have no idea if I need to have a polio booster... and as I've changed doctor's surgeries recently I have no confidence that they'd have picked it up if I did need it... then again, my boob got polio vaccine all over it yesterday morning after ds2 fed straight after his jabs, so I'm hoping that'll boost my immune system

Ds2 didn't sleep very well yesterday but did sleep well last night. Didn't settle until 8pm but then was woken for a feed at 10.30pm and slept right through to about 6.15am but gurgled happily in his cot until ds1 woke at around 6.45am, so that's when I got him up. So by my book that's sleeping through... thank God!

Let's just hope that wasn't a fluke because he was knackered from no sleep during the day!!

We're getting DTap in 2 weeks when it arrives. We had chat with doctor and she very easily talked us into getting combined jabs rather than sppaced out ones... on basis of 'trauma' for dd. oh... When we were in the hospital that time she breastfed while they put in needle for drip, and it was the most heartbreaking thing. She had her eyes screwed up and face buried into me, looking as if she could obliterate the horrible old world if she only drank deep enough. We flirted with the idea that we'd leave all the jabs till she was older, like our friends up north, but in the end the idea of her being unprotected seemed the greater risk. Arguments like this are so emotive now. She's so much of a little person our responsibility for her seems all the greater!

I really wish I had chased for DTaP now, I can't believe how it varies around the country . . . .

DS survived his first night going down alone whilst awake - the monitor went quiet after 3 mins! had to sit on me hands to stop myself going up to check he was okay as it was so quiet! not before DP and I spent 10mins trying to cure the interference on channel A, turning off all possible causes including the phone. Channel B was perfect though . . . . .

kbaby · 29/07/2004 11:05

Libb weve been trying to get DD to settle upstairs also. We generally start at 8 and by 9.30 shes asleep after a bit of feeding, head stroking and sshhing. By which time were knackered and also ready for bed. It is horrible though when its taken 1 hour to settle her and then within 10 minutes of coming downstairs and making a cup of tea she starts crying and we have to go back up and start again.
Last night was eventful.
DD was grizzly after her jabs but had finally fallen asleep in the car seat after a car ride, so shes sleeping peacefully while im trying to cook dinner. Then our cat arrives home absolutly soaking wet and covered in black stuff(think hed falled in a mucky river, by the time id noticed hed rubbed himself all over the walls, my leg and anything else he passed by. Dp and I had to bath him by dp holding all his legs together while I tried to clean him. The bathroom by now covered in dirty water. Not easy bathing a cat with that then, the fire alarm goes off as dinner is burning which then woke the baby up. A least I now have a cat who smells all nice and clean with a hint of baby bath
DD slept ok after the jabs, once we'd settled her at around 10 she slept until 2,6 and then woke at 9.30.
and i did swaddle her but just with a vest on

Egypt · 29/07/2004 11:10

well done on your nightime routine libb! dd didnt have a very good night at all. she went to bed about 8 - i think, seem so long ago now! then woke at 12,1,4,6,til7, then slept until 10am, so so did I! still grizzly now. oh bum....calpol...

libb · 29/07/2004 14:09

I don't think our routine could've been that great - DS and I have just woken from a short nap that lasted 2 and a half hours! and I must confess I lay on the sofa and he lay on his tummy with his face on my chest . . . . still, didn't seem to mind being there - must take after his father

had better take our daily waltz into town now.

spots · 29/07/2004 16:42

Your poor cat kbaby!

Think I am going through some sort of big bondknitting thing with dd right now. She's been roaring her head off as we pack, obviously wondering what the hell's going on, and I suddenly feel as if my heart's being crunched I feel so sorry for her! I used not to mind so much when she cried...

I just popped onto mumsnet to give her something familiar to listen to.

She'll fairly cheer up when she sees her groovy new travel cot anyway...

Meantime, cheerio girls, be back in ten days or so and missing y'already xxxxx

libb · 29/07/2004 16:59

Bon voyage! we'll have probably started a new thread by time you come back so we'll make it loud and clear to you !

libb · 30/07/2004 14:57

Hey! I was only kidding . . . please start talking again! anyone?

GeorginaA · 30/07/2004 20:11

What a day!

Oddly I'm still feeling fairly positive about life (he slept through until 6.50am today!) but it's been a bit of a catalogue of disasters.

First I went out to buy some birthday presents this morning, got to the shop fifteen minutes before it opened (it opened at 10am not 9.30 as I thought) at which point ds2 decided to be inconsolable and ds1 got all clingy and whiny.

Then I got home and managed to TRED on ds2 Fortunately only slightly on his foot - not enough to do any damage but enough to make him howl.

Then later on, ds1 managed to drop a toy metal car onto ds2's head (an accident not out of malice) - more howls and a nice little lump on ds2's head to match.

THEN, when I was cooking dinner, I managed (no idea how) to pour the boiling water while draining the pasta all over my left hand. Put my hand under cold running water for half an hour and then put some germolene on it, but it was agony. Got dh to put ds2 to bed, because I couldn't face lifting him with my bad hand. Told ds1 I couldn't read to him because I was feeling ill so he vanished off to his room to wait for daddy to finish to put him to bed. I dozed off on the bed.

I wake up after a very short sleep (15 mins max)... ds1 has fallen asleep fully clothed bored of waiting. ds2 is howling because he doesn't like dh putting him to bed. All pain has disappeared from my hand for some reason so I go in and take over. Takes me 20 minutes but finally get ds2 asleep. Come out and dh has fallen asleep while waiting!!!!

I'm downstairs now, drinking wine and feeling very relieved that my hand seems to have got off lightly. It's a bit swollen and stiff, but no pain and no apparent blisters - could have been so much worse.

What a day Georgina - the cold water sounds as if it did teh trick though. Roll on tomorrow.

spots - did you get the brown samsonite one - if so isn't it wonderful? I did find that the mattress was bit thin, but a normal sized pillow fits in perfectly (a bit of a gap at the bottom but you can fill that with a blanket) and gives a nice thick sleeping surface. Good luck twisting to get it down though.

Egypt · 31/07/2004 13:03

hi all, hope your hand s better today georgina.

am at my mum and dads at the moment - for the week. very hot, but cloudy today - (naaarridge - libb )

went to a 50th bday party with her last night. lots of barn dancing, can't believe my bladder stood up to it! was prepared to be taking her home for bed by 9pm but she slept a lot of the evening. woke to be passed around the entire family, and some, and slept again. ended up leaving at midnight. she didnt really want to settle until 1am, but then woke at 4.30 which wasnt so bad for my dd.

bbq today. niiiiiice. she currently asleep in mum and dads neeeewwww conservatory.....bless

GeorginaA · 31/07/2004 17:38

I'm so very very lucky. I've got a slight patch of red shiny skin by the knuckle of my ring finger which isn't even sore. My ring finger and middle finger are feeling a bit sensitive to hot/warm water and that is it.

where is everyone? i havent logged on for a day and expected to have looooads of catching up to do!!!!??!

Judd · 02/08/2004 19:31

I haven't logged on for ages...can I still be part of the gang
DH has been running a computer network in our conservatory - still unsure why but presume its a work thing, involving 2 laptops and our computer...and presumably a good hefty electricity bill in the near future! - and so I couldn't get near the darned thing!
However, I have read through all the messages and feel I am now up to speed.
We are all well....hopefully.....DS has got a consultant's appointment at the hospital tomorrow to have his heart murmur checked out. DH is taking time off work to come along for support and also to pin down DD who will otherwise be a bit of a loose cannon. Apart from that, DS is gurgling and cooing a lot, much more wide awake during the day (we had our first sleep through last night, so now I've obviously jinxed it by mentioning it!) and slurping on his fingers like a mad thing. Have given up swaddling and have gone for strait jacket-like sheets. He was also in his own room from day one.
Right, that's about it, but I will be checking back later to see what's going on....
PS. Can you believe we're nearly at 3 months???!!!

Bozza · 02/08/2004 20:18

So Judd - what counts as sleeping through? Congratulations BTW.

DD did 7.40 to 5.40 and then 6-7 last night but I woke up at five with two rocks on my chest and soaking sheets....

DD is starting to develop a daytime sleep pattern - at least I can see the pattern but she has to be persuaded somewhat. She is very gorgeous and is finally into all her 0-3 month clothes. Just found out my sister is pregnant today - so that'll be another little cousin (SIL is also pregnant).

Judd · 02/08/2004 21:03

Oh lawdy, sleeping through is one of those open to interpretation things, isn't it! For me, at the moment, it is from late feed (10.30pm) through till 7am. Hopefully after weaning, we can drop off the late feed and do 7 till 7. Ooooh just the thought of it........
However, your DD's sleep sounds pretty brill as well!
Hot weather isn't helping though, and we have nightly watchings of Look North West for temperature estimates which we then translate into body suit+sleeping bag+sheet combinations!!

Bozza · 02/08/2004 21:26

Just curious Judd. I'm actually pretty happy with DD's nightime sleep. Think she would probably sleep through if I could be bothered to wake her at 10.30.

DD is quite a warm bod so recently she has been in vest plus sheet most nights. If its cooling down I add one of those cellular blankets but thats not often. Am thinking of getting a 6-12 month sleeping bag when she'll fit it. Think it'll be handy for Scotland in a caravan in October!

Judd · 02/08/2004 21:38

We've got DD's grobags waiting in the wings for DS. This means that next winter he will be sporting denim blue Maisie Mouse!
Anyone else finding August hard work with a toddler to amuse as well? I am becoming shameless at inviting ourselves round to people's houses to play - its the only way I can stay sane! I've also managed to keep our church toddler group running through the holidays - pretending that it's to benefit the community etc....when really its just to benefit me and satisfy my need for a chocolate bourbon and a coffee!
