ANY OTHER FORCES WIVES OUT THERE?

Just been chatting with 3andnomore on another thread and wondered if there are any more of us on mumsnet who would like a chat and a comforting moan? I am on my own atm - hubby away for 4 months, and would love to swap 'home alone with the kids' stories - good and bad, and also a good gossip about the other wives we are left with! A much safer outlet for frustration than the hive!

Xenia, please tell me that your "is the fact that it's mostly the men who go away and leave their wives with the children horribly sexist" comment was a joke?

Well, let's face it, she's only in for a couple of years to perfect her typing and flower arranging before she finds herself a husband with good promotion prospects and leaves, with a huge sigh of relief, to provide lots of babies and wear navy alice bands in her hair.

street rep

There is a phrase I haven't heard for over 7 years, since we moved off base!

Likewise 'March out', thank god!

Blandmum · 03/02/2007 19:15

icod, dh is an officer in the rAF. Soeme people do the flower arranging, some don't.

I never have.

Oh, I know. Sometimes groups of them together are like a 1980s Laura Ashley retro party. They still wear white blouses with pie crust frilly collars, and navy corduroy skirts, and flat shoes, and they cut their own hair. My dh is getting a bit senior now, so I'm off to have my hair dyed Jane Goldman red in a couple of weeks' time to make sure that I stand out. And I frickin hate black labradors.

Now the clothes and hair I can cope with but hating black Labs? You'll be saying your children aren't called Araminta and Rupert next!
Am v relieved that it seems that at least flower arranging in the mess doesn't completely rule you out of the great cod's social circle

McDreamy · 03/02/2007 19:19

I often get the feeling I'm an extra in Stepford Wives while walking around the NAAFI!!!!

Blandmum · 03/02/2007 19:22

Great moment of my time as an RAF wife.

being told how to hoover a new fitted carpet, we were given an a4 sheet that told us how (I shit you not)

A mate of mine , who's dh was a sargent was given an officers house, they cut 6 inches from the carpet all the way round because only officers had fitted carpets.

Being given a letter that told me that if dh died in gulf war 1 he would be buried in Saudi and at the end of the conflict, dug up and brought home.

The bullshit can be mind blowing

McDreamy · 03/02/2007 19:24

Why am I not surprised MB

booradley · 03/02/2007 19:30

mb - wtf

we got charged £5 for a tiny cobweb in one corner of one room in our march out.

but they don't allow wifes to do the march in - otherwise it would be a whole different story!

ps - oops, might have made a small mistake and made a new entry in parenting - opps

Blandmum · 03/02/2007 19:36

My mate got fined £5 because a fly flew into a light fitting and died between her cleaning the house and the march out happening.

I saw women doing a match out clean on a house which then had all its kitchen ripped out, and the bathroom ripped out.

But the house still had to be white gloves clean when they left!

Utter arse.

GrannyMcShosha · 03/02/2007 19:54
