ANY OTHER FORCES WIVES OUT THERE?

Just been chatting with 3andnomore on another thread and wondered if there are any more of us on mumsnet who would like a chat and a comforting moan? I am on my own atm - hubby away for 4 months, and would love to swap 'home alone with the kids' stories - good and bad, and also a good gossip about the other wives we are left with! A much safer outlet for frustration than the hive!

OMG, that original article is cringeworthy. I like the updated one . The original one is more of an embarrassment to her though! I will email to DH too, though I bet he has seen it already.

saltire · 23/02/2007 17:54

littlelapin, DH said they all got a memo about that article from the CO today, telling them it was being investigated - the one in the Times that is, not the other one.

have any of you seen this They are grounded before the inquiry into the Nimrod crash last year happens!

daisynut · 24/02/2007 09:43

ooh yay saltaire - can ask mum about schools if you want she teaches the infants in a school in gosport - (will tell you on email but not public) as there was a thread on here about her school a few months back and I don't want to get her into any trouble, but she will give you a good idea on the quality etc of them - she favours redbarn in portchester (would be the one if you were in southwick) to my knowledge she works with those in fareham as well as she's the early years coordinator in her school so should know the inns and outs.

(email's [email protected]) i'll try to come on during the week somewhen and check the mails as i'm still off line

benjiplusone · 24/02/2007 17:17

Evening to all, this is really a msg for anyone that is or has been at Akrotiri. I'd really like a 4d scan of our new baby for a birthday pressie, does anyone know anything about the place in Limassol? A few people have spoken about it but no-one seems to have had a scan done there. Before I pay for it I just wondered if it was any good?

Laura032004 · 24/02/2007 19:36

benjiplusone - one of my mums friends had a scan in Limassol & was very happy with it. Can check exactly where if you're interested?

benjiplusone · 25/02/2007 09:14

Hi Laura, yeah if you could check where that would be fantastic. It would be great to see our new baby in more detail.

saltire · 26/02/2007 10:09

Loopysmummy. I spoke to the DHE at HMS Nelson. She said we would be able to get an MQ at Southwick Park, but because i don't drive I'm not keen, plus no one can tell me about the school, apparently it's a bus ride, but no one knows if it has seat belts (call me paranoid if you like but i'm not keen on the DSes going on a school bus with no seat belts) there are also loads of MQ's on the Gosport side, or in the Paulsgrove Estate in Fareham!

twoplusone · 27/02/2007 11:27

Hi all...

Hope you are all well I am loving having DH home.. he went back to work yesterday after 2weeks potl...
benjisplusone- I know people had scans in paramlimni as well (over near Ay nik) for about £80 not sure whether they were 4d ones but I kno you got a video and stuff with it..

Fianlly started to meet more peole round here.. am feeling alot braver now dh is back!!.. We have his medal parade tommorrow then a party on the night.. I am going to to go and try to meet more people just wish I could have a good drink with them all!!..

Take care all..

Laura032004 · 27/02/2007 12:11

benjiplusone - sorry, the people my mum knows had their scans in Larnaca, I got mixed up.

Anybody here from Drayton, Portsmouth? That's where we've been allocated. Should move across some time in April.

saltire · 27/02/2007 14:52

DH phoned the DE office today and they told him the only 3 bed's availiable are at Paulsgrove. They told him it is on a hill, with lots of steps, and I'm wondering if anyone based in portsmouth knows the area. I struggle with stairs and hills if my feet pains get really bad, so I'm not sure how we will manage . Also have read the school inspection report

Laura032004 · 27/02/2007 19:20

Saltire - is going for a look round an option for you? That's what we did. They told us that there were only houses available on one particular street on one estate. We asked for a list of where the OMQ's were, and went and looked at them all, then asked for specific ones that we could see were empty. Apparently they've got issues with cash flow, so houses that need work doing won't be available until post-April when they get more money to do them up. When do you need to move? We've been chatting with the individual people, and managed to get exactly what we want, but it's taken lots of phone calls and sweet talking!

saltire · 28/02/2007 08:05

Laura, there is no way we could get down unfortunately. DH's colleagues are going down for a course in April, and he is thinking of going down with them for a look, but we will have been allocated one by then so will have no choice. Anyway, DH's idea of an ok house is vastly different from mine.
The DHE woman is adamant that there are no other 3 bed availiable ANYWHERE.
I don't even know anyone from the area who could go and have a look for us

Laura032004 · 01/03/2007 07:31

Try talking to the HIVE people for an idea of the area. I found them very helpful. If you feel you might struggle with the hill, you could try approaching your doctor for a letter to this effect. I'm sure something else will miraculously come available. Or try suggesting it to the DHE people to start with, to see if just mentioning it has any effect. If you don't try, you don't get is my motto these days!

daisynut · 03/03/2007 14:01

saltaire I know poulsgrove yes - it's about 10 mins walk from where my mum/dad live now (assuming they've not moved the married qtr's at all as I know a lot were sold - do you know if it's the 'poet's corner'? the houses there are not too bad. I don't mind taking a look for you when I go to mums next week, if you have an address - might be cheeky with the camera and dio a fly by photo shoot as well! tbh i'm pretty sure it's the same place from what ou;'ve said and when they say hill they mean hill - it's steep v steep and if memory serves the married in browing ave are right at the top. anyhow I did leave tghe email sop let me know if u want me to have a look see - would like a nosey anyhow as i'm after talking DH into a posting down there, but he's after nuneaton. tbh if I had a choice of fareham or gosport i'd take the gosport. as for the school if you're posted to southwick side, the little ones would go to REDBARN PRIMARY. (at least that should be the area) so mum tells me - they should have a book for you (possibly web site as well) they'd also tell you more about the bus etc. tbh if you can't drive i'd not go there. but it's up to you. gosport is ok, but as im form the other side of the water so to speak I prefer the paulsgrove - plus for gosport is it's flat, what area of gosport will it be? - I know of rowner with naval houses but that's it

(has anyone been to nuneaton at all??)

McDreamy · 03/03/2007 14:02

I remember her thread from a couple of weeks ago about him going away. it's bad enough being on your own, but to suffer as she does must make it worse.
