ANY OTHER FORCES WIVES OUT THERE?

Just been chatting with 3andnomore on another thread and wondered if there are any more of us on mumsnet who would like a chat and a comforting moan? I am on my own atm - hubby away for 4 months, and would love to swap 'home alone with the kids' stories - good and bad, and also a good gossip about the other wives we are left with! A much safer outlet for frustration than the hive!

lol frenzied, never heard the garlic in the fanjo theory. I had group B strep with my DD too, it really isn't anthing to worry about once it's been picked up. It's those who don't get tested for it that have to worry. They just put an IV antibiotic up while they were inducing me (induction was for diabetes and cholestasis, nothing to do with the group b strep!).

Quick message for Flossie - My friend says she thinks the quarters are nice at Medmenham and suspects they are mostly old US family quarters so better spec than ours though some are old RAF ones. Def nicer than Greenwood or Kilnwood anyway. Problem is the commute to Wycombe which is only 12 miles but rush hour is terrible so it takes ages . But she says it is really nice and pretty there and she loved it as there was plenty to do. She had a baby and an 8 yo when she was there. HTH.

Hi to all in blandford, was down there a couple of years ago and it's where stepson lives (his mum is in army based there) so I am down there collecting every other weekend.

Drusilla - small world this army lark eh!! Does your DS go to the preschool or mums and tots? If so we might have met

Loopybear - don't worry about not being in the regiment... there is quite a mixed bunch up here with some RAF etc and others working at other camps. I help run the mums and tots on camp which has quite a few little ones in at the moment. Lots of childminders around here as well if you need child care.

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

Thanks Sprite. Will post as soon as we know when we're coming. So I can pick your brains about childminders.

Sprite - I think I might know who you are

Don't go to pre-school but have been to the M&T on camp on occasions. I tend to go to the one in the village though - just to get away from the army!

littlelapinofLURVE · 11/02/2007 22:46

Loopymumsy - do you go to any toddler groups etc? DS and I can be found at Mumbabas, for example .

The website has ways to donate (straight to the charity, so you can be sure it's going where we say it is). It also has downloadable sponsorship forms, flyers and very sson it wil have factsheets for walkers and organisers. The website is www.amileformaude.com . It has really picked up steam, I'm beseiged with emails! There are about 40 walks now, and more being added all the time.

I'm the short rounded one with the highly energetic crawler. I normally sit with Lucy (pregnant, dark hair).

Well, see you there after half term! You'll be able to spot me, I'm bringing cake to celebrate my birthday

saltire · 13/02/2007 11:46

Well Dh is away for 3 nights on "exercise", at a place less than 10 miles away - with full kit. Already the DSes have started playing up, this morning was just chaos. Why do the kids do this? Even if Dh is away for one night they play up

Skyler · 13/02/2007 21:51

They know when you are at your weakest...... Deep breaths now.

Littlelapin - I have finally had a proper look at your MileforMaude site and it is EXCELLENT. WELL DONE YOU!!!! I am very impressed. I am really looking forward to helping Mygirllolipop with the Telford mile now. You have done a great job, thank you for giving us the opportunity to do this

saltire · 15/02/2007 10:32

It's always the same - something happens when DH is away. I have a dog with a lame leg, a child off with this horrible virus doing the rounds and have got a sore throat and lots of yukky catarahh in my throat and nose.
Everything was fine on Monday!

McDreamy · 16/02/2007 08:20

Hello everyone - I've not been around for a few days as I've been organising DD's 4th birthday - 22 3 and 4 years old for a 2 hour party on Wednesday - arrggghh! Actually it was ok and I won a competition on the radio too!!

Just packing our bags as we are coming home to the UK tomorrow for 2 weeks - yay!! We're sooo excited. DH has been in touch (even sent me a VC) we have received a few emails and I am expecting a phone call from him tonight.

flossie64 · 16/02/2007 19:20

thanks for your message Skyler. I have only just got a chance to look again . its been a mad week BIL had heart attack , Dad collapsed ,thought we would lose him and my aunt told she would have to have her breast removed !! just a bit more stress on top of moving .

soggybottom · 16/02/2007 22:53

Hello all!!

Cripes you're all a chatty lot - wouldn't expect anything less. God Bless Forces Wives!

What a fab thread. Have added my vote. I'm ex RN and dh is serving RN at Culdrose but away at mo until may/june/who knows. Decided to jump on the property bandwagon and live in Falmouth instead of the MQs in Helston so we could put down some roots on Cornwall and rent it out should we ever need to. Rather love the idea of living in a mq as so much support is there, and Flambards is right round the corner!! I'm a Cornish girl through and through so love the idea of bringing up our little one in this beautiful county. DD is 10mths so dh will miss 1st birthday. Rather gutted really!

Anyway, hurray for us!!! Oh my good god is that the time!!!! Night night everyone!

hi ya, can i join in?
Can anyone fill me in with the short hand codes as i am new to the site?
My husband is in the R.A.F based in hampshire and in afganastan for 2 months, back middle of march. People always tell me "it gets easier" or "your be ok" I know i will be ok i always am but it never gets easier, its always the ones who husband never go away because they always have an excuse not to go away. This time my husband has been away me and my boys have all been ill, taking turns and now back to me again, I feel so washed out I needed a chat.....

saltire · 22/02/2007 11:13

Hi Flower.
It's sod's law I'm afraid, something always goes wrong. When DH was away last year (admittedly only to the Falklnds, but away all the same) I was ill for 4 weeks with a virus, the DS's both had the same thing, the dog was ill. This time, he was away on execrcise for a week, DS1 was off with a virus, the dog developed an unexplained limp. Never fails.
loopysmummy (or madge7 if you are around)- I phoned the HIVEs - I didn't realise there was 3 of them. Gosport HIVE is shut till Monday,I spoke to the woman at Collingwood HIVE, she said the MQ's out a Southwick Park are nice but it's very isolated and rural, only one bus a day and the school children have to go in buses.
So, could you please ask your DH (lovely man that he is) If he could ask around at work and find out if Peak Lane in fareham, or MQ's in Gosport are better! TIA.

Good grief, they let this pass! This bit here in particular made me smile, let's hope her fellow female tent mates didn't see that they do less stringent duties.

" But it?s even more dangerous now. In Basra I?m supposed to shack up in the women?s tent, but they get up at random times for less stringent duties. If they have a disturbed night, they might drop a pencil ? but I could crash an aircraft. I?m not supposed to sleep in the tent with the guys, but I do. In theatre I need to be with my crew constantly. We sleep, eat and work alongside each other."

Post the other one, go on
