ANY OTHER FORCES WIVES OUT THERE?

Just been chatting with 3andnomore on another thread and wondered if there are any more of us on mumsnet who would like a chat and a comforting moan? I am on my own atm - hubby away for 4 months, and would love to swap 'home alone with the kids' stories - good and bad, and also a good gossip about the other wives we are left with! A much safer outlet for frustration than the hive!

Morning girls! Popping in for a quick check, got to be quick though as ds and dd are at each others throats this morning!!

laura, we are in St Columb Minor near Newquay. I love Helston, we are always dreaming of being posted there again, but no such luck. There is only one job for DH there, and its filled until he leaves next year! We are going down over the weekend to catch up with some friends, actually.

PAYD LOL !!!

Off to referee the wrestling match now

Laura032004 · 06/02/2007 10:40

twoplusone - Yes, we did go to the Big Breakfast thing. And yes, I know Maisy and her mum! Wow! Can't believe you went out for my sisters birthday. I haven't been out in Prot since they've been out there. Always been bf or pg! Mind you, I had my days clubbing in Ayia Napa and Limassol the first time we were out there.

McDreamy - we used to live on Philip Road, and then moved to Lowe Avenue. We came out to Akrotiri on holiday when I was pg with DS1 in 2003, and couldn't believe all the changes. My dad used to work in the Families Office.

littlelapin - think DH will be going to the rugby, but I'll be looking after the DS's. He'll be going with all workmates, so I wouldn't know anyone really.

Laura032004 · 06/02/2007 10:42

tinytotmummy - sorry x-posted with you. It is nice here, we have really enjoyed it and will be sad to leave. We're often across in Newquay as well. DH likes to play tourist!

Hi all, I know this is not along the lines of the current discussion but I just wanted a bit of advice really. I am living in Akrotiri with my husband and little boy and am currently 20 weeks pregnant. I just wanted to find out if anyone else had any problems with maternity care, not the midwives they have been really good so far. Thanks

McDreamy · 06/02/2007 12:37

Hi Benji I am in Akrotiri - I'm really surprised I thought the maturnity service was really good here not that I've used them. What's the problem ?

Laura032004 · 06/02/2007 12:38

McDreamy · 06/02/2007 12:59

Laura- small world... a you said earlier..

Maisy mouse and my ds are great friends too.. her dad has just deployed for 4 months!! And they say Ay nik is a none deployable unit!!!!

benjiplusone · 06/02/2007 13:20

I've heard nothing but good things about the maternity service here, although I have heard differing reports about the consultants. I knew that I would need to have consultant care this time due to a previous emergency section. I didin't want to listen to the rumor mill, you know whats it like, but having seen the consultant twice now I'm getting worried about the whole thing. I was told i could opt for another section but having spoken to the consultant today he's basically said it's not my choice. My husband asked him outright if the choice was down to me and he said NO, he could refuse to perform any procedure. I know that he has a right to do this but having had a traumatic delivery before it did nothing to put me at ease.
I am cold today, had the heater on all day! I heard on the grapevine there might even be a frost tonight!!!!!

twoplusone · 06/02/2007 13:30

My first winter in cyprus we had frost on the ground about this time of year in the mornings it was weird as to walk to school I had the baby in snow suits hat etc.. then walking home once sun was up and highish I was stripping him off.. Last winter was very mild though... even missed out some storms last year..

saltire · 06/02/2007 16:15

I just need to rant. DH phoned today to say he has been stitched for guard, for a week of days in March - over the weekend of Mother's Day and his birthday. He was away on det for four months for his birthday/mother's day last year, so i had a lovely weekend planned. His section NEVER do guard, and his Flt Sgt has chosen him deliberately because he doesn't like him.
Grr, I am livid.

Ok, have got it out my system now

McDreamy · 06/02/2007 16:21

AWW crap Saltire - that's really pants. That's what I hate about the rank system - the opportunity to abuse it - makes it all very easy

saltire · 06/02/2007 16:24

OOh yes mcdreamy. The amount of Officers round here who drive whilst on the phone, speed along, despite every single street having a 20 mile an hour speed limit. I ave even been standing at a zebra crossing and they just speed over it, ignoring the fact i am there.
One law for Officers, and one for everyone else

McDreamy · 06/02/2007 16:26

Oh blimey is it that bad? That's awful behaviour.

Hello... can I come in? I'm an [whispers] officers wife but I don't wear Boden, have a Joules rugby shirt with the collar turned up or cut my own hair. We haven't got a Labrador either...

And I ALWAYS stop at zebra crossings

munz · 06/02/2007 18:35

hiya all,

i've just been thinking about bellas post actually - should we be more careful when posting here our locations/is it deemed ok if the user name can't be tracked to our DH's name etc on camps iycwim? not sure will have to have a think. anyhow,

hello scooter - you can join us I think I know one or 2 officers wives and they've seemed v nice. our old CO's wife and the new one come to that are plesant enough least they were at the coffee pot - the new one actually came and made us all the teas for the morning - was v surprised. besides as i keep sayin we're all the same when they blokes go away, a wife left at home keeping the house/family going

saltar - they actually have speed cameras here - i've seen one cheeky little man stand at the corner (on the sgt mess hill road shosha/lisa) on the corner so coming up you can see them but coming from the main gate into the patch you can't iycwim, cheeky little men! lol.

I find it's a small world this mil lark as well, least our bit seems to be lol. esp now we're at the training unit every man jack and his dog coems here who knows us and they seem to think they can stop in and stay with us - what's that all about! lol. (I don't mind most of the time! lol)

anyhow best get off have loads of ebaying to do tonight, and am hoping for a semi decent night with J tonight but I doubt it.

twoplusone · 06/02/2007 18:44

Hi scotergirl, how are you , is your dh home for good now or did he go back out I cant remember.. Ia m feeling alot bertter than I was before xmas, think I was having a real feel sorry for myself time...

Munz- TBH I dont really think naming areas is a prob (someone correct me if I am wrong) but you can access info on most camps..uk, germany and Cyprus on line.. I did a search on line about were we were before here and it told me things about the camp I didnt know and when I questioned dh about it he said"How the f*ck do you know that, that is classified info!!!!" We reported the site to the intelligence there and they said there was nothing they could do about it!!!
I think as long as surnames/numbers (why any of us would want to discuss DH Numbers!!) etc arent revealed and piccies of the blokes in uniform, addresses then things should be ok.. It may be worth just saying hubby deployed instead of stating "DH gone to ......"

McDreamy · 06/02/2007 18:45

Have been thinking about it too Munz! Not sure either. Anyway good evening to you all - I'm off to bed in a few minutes so not staying for long. How are we all? Good day everyone?

Scootergirl · 06/02/2007 18:46

Hiya - I hear tomorrow is an exciting day for you twoplusone!
No, DH is still here (although at times I'd gladly send him back) and we're about to start the mega post-tour leave. Look out for me on the "I'm going to throttle DH" threads pretty soon...

munz · 06/02/2007 18:53

maybe we can all do a thing where we each understand iycwim? possibly? DH seems to think the same as long as we don't talk about things in details etc he's pretty much said anything that can be found online/army.mod (I assume you have navy.mod and raf.mod respectively then it should be OK??) and tbh I don't know about you girls but DH raerely tells me things that are happening anyways, and if he did/does they're in one ear and out the other as I don't understand, when he did go abroad he didn't tell me what was happening until after iycwim, he's still telling me things now he never did at the time.
