ANY OTHER FORCES WIVES OUT THERE?

Just been chatting with 3andnomore on another thread and wondered if there are any more of us on mumsnet who would like a chat and a comforting moan? I am on my own atm - hubby away for 4 months, and would love to swap 'home alone with the kids' stories - good and bad, and also a good gossip about the other wives we are left with! A much safer outlet for frustration than the hive!

littlelapin - glad to hear that! I don't really want to live in a flat, but DH has got some fanciful idea in his head of what they'll be like!

Laura032004 · 06/02/2007 07:11

Laura032004......Cornwall.......Portsmouth..............RN............DS1 2y 10m DS2 7m

Any other suggestions?

It's not Officer's quarters i am interested in, Dh is a Sgt, so it would need to be a nice area, within walking distance of a school, near enough Southwick park so he isn't travelling too far! Not asking for much am I?

munz · 06/02/2007 08:24

ooh so of all you lot talkin about portsmouth. pembroke park - are those the ones near the marines base, or in old portsmouth? which ones are the brand new houses we keep hearing about in the family's mag? have/do any of you go to touchdowns resturant in elm grove I think it is, i'm not too sure in southsea just know how to get there iycwim.

we're gonn have to arrange a meet up or something there if there's a fair few down there. saltaire sounds like the otehr houses are prob better than the ones in southwick - as I say there you're out of the way a lot, and also so I hear the houses are rather small. agree with the traffic - and OMG what have they done to the roundabout which was at johnsons and johnsons (not sure any of you would remember that thou??) the marriots hotel/north harbour witht eh big tescos well that used to be a huge round a bout like the one in cosham and somebody saw fit to change it to traffic lights! I swear I never know which way to go unless mums with me! lol.

anyhow I asked our welfare officer yesterday about the new pay - and apparently it's changing to teh same as you raf/navy gals, he assures me that all of the kinks have been ironed out and apparently it's going to go smoothly - yeah right! lol.

anyhow 2+1 not long now will keep everything crossed till DH is safe and sound in the UK. how are you otehr gals today with DH's away?

J's teething badly here and I think might have got the head cold which is going around - was burning up badly last night, but touch wood seems chirpier today just not eating again

munz · 06/02/2007 08:25

from drayton actually you'd go straight over the hill - not sure on the traffic in the morning but it's not out in the middle of no where iycwim like southwick, but also not far enough into town to be a major prob (i'm assuming it's the houses on the steep hill going down from the top of the hill into farlington - not sure on the name of the road thou) I thoughtt hey were navy??

McDreamy · 06/02/2007 08:29

Morning all! Hoe are we all this morning? Just heard that the rainfall we've had here in the last 3 days is as much as they get during the whole winter normally Thankfully today is a little drier and sunnier so we can get out!! Managed to talk to DH last night which was great. Just trying to find out if I can indulge my mum out here for a week on the Trooper as DH is away - have heard rumours!! How is it for everyone else this morning. Hi Laura - welcome

So have any of you Army/Navy girls had the delights of Pay as you Dine yet? What a f*kin carry on. Where i am (RAF base) they introduced this "facility". It is run by ESS, who i believe are now responsible for all NAFFIs, cleaning contracts, etc. Anyway, all the singlies Officers and Junior Ranks alike were given this card, and every time they bought food in thsi facility they swiped the card.
The ESS lot also are trying tos hut down the rugby club, police club and other squadron bars "because they are in compettion". They have tried to stop people going to the pubs off camp, and of course tried to stop people going to the takeaways. There used to be a kebab van parked outside the camp gates, they got it closed down, the got the HIVE coffee shop shut down, all because they were in compettion to them. So now this facility is the only place to go for a meet up. Hwever the tea comes from a machine, you cannot get a bacon roll, or a sausage and bacon roll etc.

Mcdreamy- I heard a rumour this end that while hubbies are way for the 6month tour we are entitled to four free flights to get familied out.. so you may be entitled to two... I never checked it out as found out after my dad had been for xmas..

munz- I am soo excited and cant wait 48hrs to go...

Laura- I think when we spoke I was Luckylady.. or karen01.. I was at ay nik left in November, really missing it..

mcdreamy- great news that you got to speak to DH its great when you get to talk isnt it..

i am getting my hair done tommorrow for DH return.... was hoping that my new maternity clothes had turned up but no luck, phoned up yesterday and they had only just come in so no chance they will be here before he gets back... never mind.. I dont suppose he will be bothered about my clothes.. ........

McDreamy · 06/02/2007 08:50

Sounds rubbish - I love going down the coffee pot for a bacon sandwich and a cup of coffee - already been there this morning after the pre school drop off

Laura032004 · 06/02/2007 08:52

McDreamy - whereabouts in Cyprus are you? My parents are at Ay Nik, and I lived in Akrotiri when I was younger. I met my DH at St Johns (his dad is RAF too). I'll ask my dad about the indulgence thing if you like? He's the UAOWO.

munz · 06/02/2007 09:01

sal yes we had pay as you dine in the old unit - DH always took a packed lunch tbh and heere he comes home every lunch time. (think he likes to see the boy) afaik not a lot of the single lads took it up - well in our one they only worked 4 days so they could do £1 per meal, or £3 for the week if that makes sence?? (althou that was for the pads) they still allowed the burger van on camp - there wasn't much for the wives tbh we had an estate about 20 mins away closer to town so it never effected me really.

DH would be sneeky thou and hold his plate in his left hand so as not to see the ring! lol.

twoplusone · 06/02/2007 09:06

Laura, does your mam work in the familieds office......... do they live in the bungalows!!!! I may well have the wrong couple....

twoplusone · 06/02/2007 09:08

we have pay as you dine here.. but also a normal coffee shop.. but hte pay as you dine place is cheaper.. we go there sometimes for meals if i cant be bothered to cook and it isnt to bad.. but I suppose each place differs.. as it is open to all on camp..

Laura032004 · 06/02/2007 09:22

2+1 - yes! Do you know them? Small world! We're coming out for 3 weeks in May. Can't wait!

McDreamy · 06/02/2007 09:46

twoplusone · 06/02/2007 09:55
