...are difficult about food.

dd2 had friend here for lunch. I had put a sandwich and some cucumber on her plate.

"I don't like cucumber."
says friend.

"Okay" says I "what about cherry tomatoes?"
"I don't like cherry tomatoes."

"What about apple?"
"I don't like apple."

"What do you like then, what can I get you?"
Silence....

I had some vegetable soup and she asked if she could have some. Yes of course I said, put some in bowl for her. She poked around it. "What's the yellow stuff?" "Sweetcorn." "What's those lumps?" "Potato." She put some in her mouth then spat it out again... and declared she didn't want it.

Grrr.

and, tbh, I don't really care about the whys and wherefores of if a particular kid is fussy

I know some kids are fussy. And I do ask and accomodate where possible, though if a kid is known by their parents to be fussy I expect to be warned. I also offer a good range of picnic type foods. But I don't get upset if they don't eat it. There's 100 reasons why a kid might not eat.

If they don't eat, they'll eat at home. And if they don't there are difficulties beyond anything I can do in a playdate.

AND

IMO

any decent playdate includes a good cake making session ANYWAY

In fact, lets be honest, any decent DAY includes a nice cake making session

unless it is a saturday, which is biscuit day

feel better now

That's fine, just leave what you cant eat.

(But thats all your gonna get you little madame)

Its fine if they are under 5yrs, but if over that.. tough.

nearlyfourbob · 24/01/2007 20:29

May I just point out how HIDEOUS the word "playdate" is. While we're on the subject.

I find it faintly embarassing...it's like a "date", but to play, not...y'know...

that's not cos they're poncy cod (apples, poncy?!?), it's because your boys are fussy

no, I do agree with that. I am quite surprised by the petty meanness of some people on this thread.

But then I don't really subscribe to the "eat it or starve" school of parenting anyway.

I'd be tempted to send my kid the next time with a lunch box of food and a note saying "you can keep your manky grub, I hope it chokes you, with compliments from The Greensleeves Residence"
