does corrie care at all about current baby advice?

watching Faye and baby Miley story line with interest. so far I've noticed she bottle feeds with no mention ever of breastfeeding, in fact there was even a tommee tippee bottle thing in the background, definitely being used for formula (product placement? advertising formula??), I also wonder why no one has mentioned that Faye might be suffering from pnd? why is no one helping her? and in Friday's episode Faye's mum says that Miley is asleep in parent's bedroom - ie leaving a baby to sleep alone before 6 months?

*not against ff at all, just think bf is hard enough without a huge soap ignoring it practically every time there's a baby (didn't Maria only bf for a couple of days?)

This annoys me. The writers on a lot of things don't seem to pay attention to the little things about babies. Chairty's baby in emmerdale is the same. A few days old and " should sleep for a few hours"

Isn't she really young? It's a reflection of real life. There's bugger all support for young mums who want to breastfeed. It's assumed that you'll FF.

It's a soap. It's not real. Actresses don't want to get their baps out on tea time telly to pretend feed a fake baby.
Also: no-one cares.

Coronation Street is not intended to resemble real life. it is not a public service announcement either. It's a rubbish soap opera with dreadful acting.

Given that Faye didn't want anything to do with the baby from the start and is 13 (or thereabouts), I think it wouldn't have fit with the storyline for the baby to be anything but FF.

On a purely practical note, there are incredibly strict guidelines about babies 'working' on set (I have some experience of this) so Corrie producers will want to minimise the amount of actual time spent filming with real babies on set which is why the baby is conveniently in another room. Although I suppose a Moses basket in the corner with a well swaddled doll would haven perhaps been a better solution, more reflective of current guidelines.

They can only allow the baby or babies playing the role to work for a very short period each day so the scriptwriters have to engineer the scenes so the baby isn't there most of the time.
That's why Emma was hardly ever at Monica's flat and Rachel would be there with the baby monitor. (In Friends)

And anyway, from the sounds of what you say, it seems to exactly mirror actual real life. So what is your problem with it?

The whole point of the story is that Faye hasn't bonded with the baby, I don't think it would be very realistic to then show her happily breastfeeding.

and another thing I noticed - the lady who took her away had the baby in the car seat in the front passenger?

it does annoy me that they can't even get tiny things like those right, or even explore issues, even if they just added in an extra sentence?

I know it's fiction but with other story lines the soaps bang on about wanting to be as accurate as possible, with cancer storylines for example, so why not make the effort with this? not wanting the story to be changed but the background details which could potentially even be dangerous!

Sorry but I agree with the majority of the other posters. It would also be pretty boring if all the Corrie characters followed sensible guidelines...

TV babies always conveniently sleep at all the times people want them to sleep, in their own rooms and with no attention being paid to them by anyone else.

Faye didn't want the baby from the start, so it is highly unlikely she'd have even tried BF.

nothing wrong with the baby being asleep on its own, or in the front seat of the car. What is your issue with those things? I don't watch soaps, but don't think adding a sentence to any of them is "exploring" an issue!

Lots of babies sleep alone in rooms, some all night, but almost all at some point. Who stays right next to a baby while it sleeps at all times? No-one.

Yes actually they do winter. Babies should never nap alone under six months ever. I have had seven it's not difficult to keep baby with you.

I don't watch Corrie but soaps are notoriously bad for getting things wrong. I've seen inaccurate portrayals of various disabilities for example, and illnesses.
With the breastfeeding it's probably difficult with a baby actor anyway.
I remember there being a soap a few years ago (although can't remember which one) with a premature baby and they got everything wrong. Viewers get bored so most storylines are very short - that baby will probably be 1 in a few episodes!

Loo yes, nipping out of the room is fine. No I bring the baby with me or older child comes to baby.

Where do people get this rubbish from? what's the point of telling mums they are expected to perform the impossible. Totally unnecessery and unhelpful anyway, what on earth possible benefit would there be?

I'd never get anything done if I didn't leave ds alone to sleep if he's asleep in his pram downstairs I'll take that opportunity to get on with the housework I don't move him into every room with me I just leave him be. Likewise he's in bed upstairs now I'm downstairs having a bit of me time as long as you check them regular I don't see a problem, it's completely unrealistic to be at the side of your baby 24/7.
You can put a baby in the front seat of a car if the air bag is turned off, & the whole bf thing would be totally unrealistic as from the start she rejected the child and there's nothing actually wrong with ff people shouldn't be made to feel guilty or a bad mother for ff.
Get a grip! Well done you for being the "perfect mother" Shame on the rest of us who ff and god forbid leave a safe and sleeping baby for longer than a few moments

DD (14 weeks) goes to bed at 7 every night. I don't go to bed until 11. We have a baby monitor.

She's also never so much as smelt breast milk. And comes everywhere in the front seat of the car so I can chat to her.

It's perfectly normal and okay. And it's only corrie Ffs!
