watching Faye and baby Miley story line with interest. so far I've noticed she bottle feeds with no mention ever of breastfeeding, in fact there was even a tommee tippee bottle thing in the background, definitely being used for formula (product placement? advertising formula??), I also wonder why no one has mentioned that Faye might be suffering from pnd? why is no one helping her? and in Friday's episode Faye's mum says that Miley is asleep in parent's bedroom - ie leaving a baby to sleep alone before 6 months?

seriously corrie, what's going on?

*not against ff at all, just think bf is hard enough without a huge soap ignoring it practically every time there's a baby (didn't Maria only bf for a couple of days?)

RTFT

Both Lullaby Trust and NHS are quoted above.

If its your pfb you've got a cook and a cleaner then yes it may be doable, back in the real world it's completely unrealistic to be by your baby side 24/7 for 6 months

I mean, it's a lovely idea, but they are the sort of recommendations that don't actually pay any attention to people's real lives and all it achieves is to make new mums feel even worse for breaking a guideline. Yet another potential PND stick. Breastfeeding didn't work? Can't cope with having your baby with you 24/7?

If it's your PFB and a partner who is home at 5.30 every evening to help with cooking and cleaning and mind the baby then it might be possible. I'd have gone absolutely barking insane with no partner in the evening and a baby who really wouldn't settle unless it was silent and pitch dark.

Its totally possible, i did it with all 5 of mine and i cant imagine doing it any other way, i found it much easier to keep them with me at all times.

Again, completely possible without disturbing other things.

I had mine in a sling, i know others who have done this, i do it til about 1 but i know others who do it for longer.

It easy to get on with the housework and make most meals with the baby in the sling. You can breastfeed in one although i didnt do that as i found it hard, maybe because i have big boobs. If the baby needed feeding while i was doing something then i just stopped and fed her, most things can wait.

Older kids can be read, cuddled and talked to, they played lego did jugsaws and colored, all things they can do while you feed the baby or jiggle it about.

I dont feel like anything suffered and i got to carry on with my daily business and my children got more attention than if i was constantly putting the baby down then going back to it, telling them to be quiet because they were asleep etc. My babies all got used to noise and now they all sleep through anything and they dont need to be in pitch black.

What i am saying is that it is TOTALLY DO-ABLE.

abearcalledpaddington · 30/06/2015 20:14

I hoovered with mine in the sling, plus i don't really use any chemicals round the house except maybe some bleach down the toilet.Everything else i make myself. We are stepping into hippy territory now though lol.

Roseybee10 · 30/06/2015 20:16

My back gets too sore with her in a sling for any length of time and she struggles to fall asleep in it as she's too nosey.
I love my sling and use it a lot if she won't settle but I couldn't wear her in it for every nap.
It's not fair to assume that what works for you and your babies will work for everyone else and theirs.

abearcalledpaddington · 30/06/2015 20:19

Maybe try another sling?

Its also not fair to say "its just NOT possible unless its your first child or you have nanny" lol what a load of tosh.

abearcalledpaddington · 30/06/2015 20:21

I'm not saying everyone should do it my way, people should do what works for them but i don't think its fair to discount other types of parenting because you don't think you could cope with it yourself.

Roseybee10 · 30/06/2015 20:23

I've tried a fair few slings but now she's getting bigger and heavier I don't find it comfortable to wear her around the house as much and I certainly can't get on with housework etc while wearing her in it.
For me it isn't possible to get my baby to sleep in the same room as me because my toddler wakes her within five minutes. I then have to either take my toddler to another room or exclude her for the duration of my baby's nap and lock her in another room which I don't think would be particularly good parenting.

I'm sure you can keep a baby in a sling for 6 months, provided no bad back or other physical condition making it impossible. I just wouldn't personally be prepared to wear mine while I was on the toilet or cooking, for reasons of hygiene and safety respectively. And mine have sometimes slept when I've needed to do those things.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/06/2015 21:37

I hated slings with a passion, couldn't do anything with one on. My policy of putting the DCs down to sleep wherever I judged best at the time did not mean I was constantly checking on them to the detriment of other activities but did mean I could get on with those activities far more efficiently than I would have done with a sling on, It also resulted in two children who have always self settled and sleep through anything, because they were used to being put down to sleep from an early age.

monkeyfacegrace · 30/06/2015 22:08

I use a sling daily for dog walking. But I want to sunbathe for hours and float in the pool while baby sleeps at home. Can't do that with her in a sling. And let's be fair, a tan is vair important.

I found it totally doable with my (admittedly) pfb. I didn't need a sling or servants and had no need to cart him from room to room. But then we only really have one room. I wish I lived in the real world.
