Thought I might as well start it at Fennels suggestion.
You have all read enough from me how about you?

Hi Yorkie Girl - my ds was born 1st April. How well does your dd sleep? Ds slept 6.30pm to about 4am last night which was amazing! Threw up most of his feed tho so was starving when woke at 6.45am. Fennel - how do you manage to get out in the sun with babe?

Interested in this thread?

hello peeps sos i have not been around 4 a while ! completely knacked ds now 4 wks and 12 lb !! back is agony ! also having the explosive poo and smelly wind thingy ! only going a few days between product though HV and dm suggested water and the carton of ready made formula as opposed to the powder and it seems to have worked ds also less cranky
i bfeed during the niht and bottle feed in the day should i do it the othyer way round then
as i am up every 1 1/2 hrs feeding

MrsDoolittle · 23/05/2004 15:07

Another gorgeous day. Despite all previous forecasts according to a lady in Mothercare she had heard that we are supposed to be into a heatwave now!!
Dd is outside asleep in her pram. And I have nipped in for a quick peek at developments on this thread before going out again.
She does seem more comfortable today (fingers crossed). I don't know if it's just coincidence but I gave her infacol again yesterday in desperation!!
Anyway, spoke too soon - she's woken up.
Better go......

Hi all - HV has recommended gripe water, so I went straightaway and bought some - honestly though, she could recommend anything at the moment and I'd try it...

ds also goes for days without pooing - although it's a regular 3 day pattern - day 2 (which is today)is usually pretty awful - v. smelly wind and more colicky than usual. Then the day he poos he's sooooo happy! He's now 11lbs 1oz - putting on about 10 - 12ozs a week, bless him...

Lucyjones I'm jealous - sleeping through! ds is now sleeping from 8pm - until about 2am, but then waking at 4am and then every hour after until 7am - aarrgghh! Not sure why, as he can't be hungry. The 4am/5am/6am wakings are driving me insane, as by the time I've fed him I've only got about 20 minutes - no good for getting some decent sleep..!

LucyJones · 23/05/2004 19:41

Hi Dot1 - dont be too jealous, I'm sure it was just a blip!!! My ds gets agitated too if he thinks he should be pooing

dolbear · 24/05/2004 17:33

so we have moved on from talking about our our bowles to our babies !!!! ha ha
am also sitting waiting patiently for ds to perform so that his mood will improve , only stinky gas so far ah well
also have the funny moring wakings dot1 , thought that my bf was no loger hitting the spot !!
the only way i can get some peace 2day is by putting him on hos front on his change mat

MrsDoolittle · 24/05/2004 18:14

Gosh not pooing? Dd poos every day, infact there are only a few nappies that are only wet.
Anyway, yesterday I definately spoke too soon. We had a good night but terrible colic today despite being loaded up with infacol. She has just gone to sleep in the garden, must be shattered now. Hopefully that's it for the moment.
She is settling well at night at 11pm (although you'd think I would keep my mouth shut now!!)and waking me at 3.30 - 4 ish. She used to sleep again then but lately that's it she wakes up with colic about an hour after a feed. I must have 'fizzy' milk.
How is your dd Fennel? and HD?
I can really see her developing now, beginning to smile and recognise me in the room. It's such a shame I can't help her when she gets this pain - it's heart wrenching.
Ought to get back outside, although I am burnt already!!!

Mrs D, my dd3 is doing very well, in fact have nothing to post about at present! - I keep thinking we must be about to hit the bad colicky stage but it hasn't happened yet, at 4 weeks. she slept 9-5 last night, her best yet, which made me happy, you can imagine. and she's starting to smile, she is so sweet now. she makes little contented squeaks and snuffles like a gerbil when she's happy.

but she poos about 4 times a day, mostly squitty ones.

there, tempting fate by admitting it's going well, what's the betting that in a few days it all comes crashing down around me?

Fennel · 24/05/2004 21:04

has anyone seen any postings from Lesley76? Lesley, if you're there, how are you doing, I haven't seen any news since the first couple of days. has ds got a name?

hewlettsdaughter · 24/05/2004 21:11

I was wondering about Lesley too, Fennel. Glad things are going ok with you. My dd is currently screaming on my lap - although she has been reasonably mellow otherwise for the last couple of days so I shouldn't complain too much...
We are getting colicky episodes but I am loathe to say she has colic yet.

Fennel · 25/05/2004 14:09

my dd does cry in the evenings, she grizzled on and off for 4 hours yesterday evening. but it seems easier to cope with 3rd time around (4th time counting living with baby niece last year too), cos I know it's just for a few weeks they are like this.

HD has the bf improved? it's ok for me though my nipples do get sore by the evening. I still wouldn't say I actually like bf though, it's a bit of a chore for me. is anyone actively enjoying it? am tempted to start a thread "things I don't like about breastfeeding" but suspect I'd get into trouble

LucyJones · 25/05/2004 14:10

I'm afraid I moved on to bottles after nearly 5 weeks of pain (long story but ow!) so I'd contribute to your thread Fennel I'm so much happier now and ds doesn't seem to have noticed!

Still muddling through with the breastfeeding here but totally understand your move to bottles Lucy - may yet do that myself if things don't improve (intend to have independent midwife back next week).
Fennel - LOL at your idea for a thread! I was thinking of starting one called "Breastfeeding is such HARD WORK!!!"

hewlettsdaughter · 25/05/2004 14:18

8.30 until 5 Yorkiegirl? Do you mean she was asleep for all that time? I wish...

Fennel · 25/05/2004 14:27

Things I would put on my thread:

it makes you stay fat.
it makes you tired.
it hurts.
when the baby sleeps well at night you still wake up cos you have two painful huge rocks dripping milk all over the bed (noone with a bad sleeper has any sympathy for me on that one, of course).
you have to wear horrible super-sturdy bras even in bed.
it can be embarrassing in public.
expressing at work/in station toilets etc is miserable (that's for in a few months time, am not at work yet).

Metrobaby · 25/05/2004 14:46

Lol fennel.

BF always takes ages too. My ds always falls alseep on the boob too so I know I am getting into the realms of future sleep realted problems. I hate having to wear a bra in ed too - especially in this warm weather. Oh well at least I can bf and mumsnet at the same time !

Ds is colicky too. But it strikes at any time where he yells and yells and yells. I keep telling myself it won't last forever but its awful to hear. DS isn't too bad at night - but each day is different. I am normally up at least 2/3 times. DS hasn't started to smile yet - unless he is windy - but I am looking forward to it.

I was wondering about lesley too. Hopefully she will find this thread and some time to post too

hewlettsdaughter · 25/05/2004 15:05

Oh dear. I am not wearing a bra in bed. Am I doing myself irreparable damage?
Have posted on the "Anyone due in April" thread to tell Lesley about this thread.

Fennel · 25/05/2004 17:02

I only wear a bra in bed cos it's too painful otherwise, my breasts get big and swollen and I can't move.

dot1 · 25/05/2004 17:06

I hate wearing a bra in bed aswell - feels like I'm never properly undressed (which is true!). And last night, 'cos ds went for 6 hours (yeah!!!) I had major leakage all over the sheet - ewwww..!! He's still doing his waking up every hour after about 4.30am though...

After a lovely peaceful day yesterday (poo day!), it's back to normal today with lots of crying - dp has just taken him out for a walk, so I'm off to bed in a minute! Can't wait for the crying phase to stop - he's 6 weeks tomorrow, so I keep telling myself it can only be another 6 weeks at the most??!

hewlettsdaughter · 25/05/2004 17:22

MrsD - just saw your thread about nipple pain. How are things today?

LucyJones · 25/05/2004 22:31

Well done to all of you still perserving with the breast feeding. I had to cover one breast with my hand in the shower and I don't miss that at all (couldn't bear to have anything touch it). Ds slept from 6.30pm - 2.30am and then woke at 5.30am last night so not too bad. I'd like him to go to bed a bit later than that as dh doesn't see much of him after work but not sure how to go about it - seems mean to interrupt the routine he seems to be setting himself...

MrsDoolittle · 26/05/2004 00:53

Good evening! I bought some coleif drops today, and we have had no obvious signs of colic today but then TBH we haven't got it really badly. We went to baby clinic this afternoon and it made me realise that things aren't that bad atall. Atleast she stops crying when I pick her up unless it's colic. Infacol doesn't work anymore I have decided. I asked the HV today if it was okay to use infacol and colief together and she said there was no point as they do the same thing. Sounds like rubbish to me - infacol contains simethicone which I understood was a relaxant, colief contains lactase which is an enzyme (organic). Does anyone else know any different?
I laughed at all this bf stuff. I am pretty well endowed normally and these nursing bras do nothing for me!! I am forced to wear one with sheilds at night because otherwise I wake up in a swamp. It's true, I feel like I haven't got undressed !!!
I have been wondering... has anyone got their evenings organised yet so they are not cluster feeding? People keep asking me how long does she go between feeds, but I am still demand feeding!
although I do hold off the last feed until 10.30 so she settles by 11pm, thats as much as I have achieved so far.
