3yo DS and I were baking muffins on Sunday, he called flour 'pastry powder' Grin

I don't imagine that one'll stick once he knows the real word, but DH calls quiche 'egg cake', and friends of ours all call raspberry jam 'pink jam' since the kids named it years ago.

Any more?

My eldest always had odd words for things. Her fav blanket, and most other blankets were called Kikis, and yoghurts were called Shlor, right up until the age of 6 bless herSmile

Eggy pancake - omlette
Cheese pancake - quesadilla

Cheerymum · 02/10/2014 06:24

Mine calls mermaids "ladyfish".
Boiled egg = big egg, fried egg = flat egg. We don't see that many ladyfish except in stories.

Cheerymum · 02/10/2014 06:27

Oh and when she had a nosebleed she said her nose was "leaking paint"!

ODearMe · 02/10/2014 06:29

We had a conversation about moving house recently, and DS aged 3 said it would be too heavy Smile

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 02/10/2014 06:35

My ds told me he had done a mouth trump when he yawned! Going for a coffee is having a juicebiscuit, and Marks & Spencer's is known as daddy & Spencer's thanks to dd. Smile

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 02/10/2014 06:43

Not yawned, burped Grin

wellnowthenmardybum · 02/10/2014 06:44

Turnip is 'orange potatoes' named by ds when he was little. Dc are teens now and it's still what we call it

toomuchtooold · 02/10/2014 06:49

Gingerbread man = man biscuit.

Diet coke = mummy water. (Just glad they didn't use that name for wine!)

Boltonlass1972 · 02/10/2014 07:46

Ds used to call gloves 'glubs'. We still say 'where are my glubs 'and he's now 11

warmfuzzyfeeling · 02/10/2014 08:01

My three year old has always called my boobs "booms".

Salt and vinegar crisps are "fizzy crisps".

My ex's daughter used "hoove" as a verb: "are you going to hoove with the hoover?"

DatsunCogs · 02/10/2014 08:41

We also have 'the fat controller' for remote control.

My bra is my 'butterfly', makes sense to me!

EElisavetaofBelsornia · 02/10/2014 11:32

DD told me we have to drink plenty of water so we don't get low-drated

SwayingCat · 02/10/2014 11:46

Oh and dh reminded me this morning (not related to this thread) that ds1 used to call a camera a cheese.

Angelto5 · 02/10/2014 11:55

Sorry in advance if I bring the tone of the thread down but when I read the title the first thing that popped into my head was what my dc call bras.

They are known as boobie-caps!!!Shock

StillSquirrelling · 02/10/2014 12:17

Boltonlass - my kids all called them 'glubs' when they were really small. DH continue to do so. They also called spoons 'smoons'. Super cute Grin

One of my kids (can't remember which one) used to refer to spicy food as being 'too spiky for my mouth'.

Lozziem · 02/10/2014 12:25

Yes we have yellow egg instead of scrambled!"and the remote control is the zitter!

rockbred · 02/10/2014 13:03

According to my 3yo DD, the correct name for a trampoline is 'bounce-o-line'.

ApocalypseNowt · 02/10/2014 13:15

Crusts are 'edges'.

And somewhat euphemistically poo often gets called 'mud' e.g. "Muuuuum, can you wipe my bum? There's mud on it" Grin

PurplePidjin · 02/10/2014 13:35

22mo DS got paint on his hands this morning and asked for bubble mummy - because i always get him to rub his hands to make bubbles when washing them

My mum still says Swimmingoes after I couldn't manage flamingoes age 3ish

AlwaysHoldingOnToStars · 02/10/2014 16:22

Bran flakes = brown flakes. Misheard me but makes total sense!

JulesJules · 02/10/2014 17:22

I wish I'd written some of the funny things the dds said down at the time because I'm sure I've forgotton loads of them.

We also have the Fat Controller for the Sky remote (and the thin controller for the tv remote)

Caterkillers we still use - as in (crossly) Salad is for Caterkillers
Croccolli - Crocodile, the same colour as broccoli

Honeezreturn · 02/10/2014 17:34

DD used to call a calculator a 'countylater' cos it counts

and fried eggs were flat eggs

and when they had rollerblades, the elbow protectors were 'elbow helmets' Grin
