Just a bit hacked off with mums at school, they moan about having no life away from their kids/ not much money, yet they all seem to refuse to get jobs or careers!
why do some women just want to do sweet FA all day when their kids are at school? They seem content for their husbands to slog their guts out at work while they drink cups of tea and watch daytime tv! Dont get it! i think its called laziness??

police not much better fornstaffing is it? Pasrt oft eh bermuda triangle of staffing: police, nursing, teaching.

Gave up nursing years ago- thank goodness. Worked in the charity sector (where they couldnt afford enough staff) and looking at teaching.... glutton for punishment i think

Get your pizza hut ambitions; pre uni felt like that a lot

Yes Anoah, must be hard as my dp works regular hours so I can fit shifts in with him.Your dh also has a stressful job so that must be difficult too.

newlyreformedhandlemecarefully · 22/09/2006 20:56

Anoah, I "can't be bothered to get a job". Dh pays >£100K in taxes annually so I doubt I am costing anyone anything. Is that okay by you?

Elf1981 · 22/09/2006 21:12

I dont believe it is laziness that stops people working when their kids are in school. If you've had x amount of years out of the work place it is difficult to re-enter, even if you were at the top of your game when leaving to have children, most industry moves so fast that sometimes your knowledge is out of date by the time you return. Confidence can also take a battering when being a SAHM. Sometimes to get a job you have to have a job iyswim. Fear of change can also be a reason.

What can annoy me is when some of our friends look at me and DH and say they wish they "had the lifestyle" we do. It isn't easy to work FT & run a household, but in the same respect, it isn't easy to be a SAHM. We all have the power to change our situations. SAHM's can retrain, start slow, work up. Working families can downsize and re-evaulate. But dont sit constantly bitching and doing nothing about it.

Sleepinbeauty, are you for real? I haven't read all of the 750 odd posts your thread has generated but I bet you don't know enough about these women's lives to judge as you have.

Jeez, pressure. Decades back there used to be pressure on women not to go to work. Now there's pressure TO go to work. How about simply no pressure at all? What works for you, works for you and whatever life we lead we all get hacked off from time to time and should have the right to let of steam.
