Clothes for 6 month old- NOT leggings!

I have an irrrational fear of leggings- don't like them for myself, babies or children even though I know I am against most of the world on this one! My DD is coming up for 6 months and I am starting the gradual transition away from sleepsuits into 'real' clothes.

She always ends up with plenty of pretty dresses anyway as people buy them for her as gifts but I need some ideas for comfy day to day clothes. The problem is that all the outfits for baby girls I see consist of leggings and a tunic top which is a style I just don't like! Anyone have any ideas of where I can get nice soft trousers?

Will trousers be too hot for the summer though (she types looking out of the window at the rain...)

How about romper suits? With long sleeved vests and socks or tights? That what my dd wears mostly during the day. They are really cute!

However, we also have some nice trousers from next and a couple of supermarket bough onesies

Romper suits are a good idea HettySunshine - she only has one so far as I couldn't be bothered with socks but it does look v cute (and i have now discovered sock ons)

Surely there isn't much difference between slightly too big leggings and slightly too small stretch trousers on a small girl?

I am the same - I hate leggings!

Fortunately when dd was little they were not quite so prevalent as they are now, and I got lots of soft cotton trousers in places like H&M, Zara and Next. JoJo Maman bebe were good too, but expensive. I also put her in boys trousers quite often.

I think you just need to look around, and don't discount the boy's section.

Actually just looking Cambridge baby currently have organic baby trousers with feet reduced down to £5.70 in 4 colours, up to 12 months

I hate hate hate jogging bottoms on any child who isn't doing a sport. I think leggings or soft jean style trousers are good for babies as they are comfy. I would go for tights or combats instead. or a sleep suit with a dress on top?

At that age my dd2 lived in romper suits with short sleeves/legs. Boots usually have nice ones with bright patterns on and are usually 2 for £8. Asda an matalan have some nice soft everyday dresses as opposed to smart dresses.

Shorts and t-shirts, skirt and top would be the only other things that would be cool enough (assuming it doesn't rain all summer) as you don't like leggings.

I've got some really fun baby trousers from TK maxx. Also some lovely ones from John Lewis. My little girl wears a lot of dungarees too.

At this age we used a lot of leggings, soft shorts for summer, dungarees can be short too, and jiggers (you'd hardly expect a 6 month old TO be doing a sport, maybe if we were talking a 16 yo!). Rompers are vvvvv cute on babies and shortie ones are great for summer.

I hate structured trousers on babies - don't fit over nappies, and they don't look like they are free to wriggle.

My DDs were in sleep suits till they crawling and they became a nuisance, so around 7-8 months?
DD2 wore a mixture of dresses with tights, tops and soft knitted trousers (like thick wooly cabled tights but no feet). She also had a few footless sleep suit type things, and a few pairs of dungarees. She's still wearing the same sorts of things TBH at 16 months! Have just bought some summer stuff for her which includes some soft bloomer type shorts as well.

OP and JonathonsGirl what is it you don't like about leggings on kids? I only like them when worn with dresses on children and adults.

Oh I could have written this post! Hate hate hate leggings. DD wears a lot of dress/tight combinations. Luckily a lot of vintage light stuff as my nan kept all the clothes she dressed me in as a baby. I find a lot of dresses nowadays have big poofy netting or ridiculous button placement so not too practical when you're trying to wrestle a 1 year old that just wants to be naked.

Otherwise she has some chinos and a few pairs of tailored linen shorts which look absolutely adorable. Well, to me anyways.
