what lullabies do you sing?

I'm Irish living in England and, unfortunately, the only songs I know that sound remotely like a lullaby are Irish rebel songs! It's fine at the mo cos he doesn't understand them but I wanna get out of the habit before he starts asking questions! Problem is, when I sing other stuff he doesn't like it and starts whinging. He's completely fascinated by the fields of athenry and if I sing anything less than all three verses and choruses he whinges! He just goes into a trance with them! I need to have a few other back up songs in my head

I wouldn't worry about in, my Scottish mum used to sing us folk songs which were all about wronged maidens dying left, right and centre - we still loved them!

I have this CD which is lovely and I sing songs from it (rather less tunefully!).

make the most of it, these days I only have to open my mouth and DD (aged 4) says 'today's not a singing day Mummy!'!

Lol that's a good point! It's just most of the songs are about how bad the English were and, well, he was born in England and could end up living here for life! I will definitely teach him about his heritage and culture and history but when he's able to understand. I dunno, maybe I'm overthinking it slightly! I'd like to sing more kinda poppy ones but the only one I ever think of is stand by me... Then he whinges til I sing fields of athenry lol. Christmas was great cos I could sing all the silent nights and away in a manger and stuff like that. Maybe I should just keep singing them!

I sing mocking bird but otherwise I just kind of hmm. I am a terrible singer.

Oh that reminds me, I sometimes sing hymns from school, mostly harvest ones because I always liked them best.

Mine gets lots of Australian folk songs - I guess because that's what I had from my parents.

That and strong requests for Wheels on the Bus. When he was littler I did a lot of Christmas carols. In July....

Then for more awake times we have action songs like scarecrow, tiny tim the turtle, head shoulders knees and toes, wise man built his house on the sand, oats peas beans and barley, clippety clop, wind the bobbin up. I am sure there are others.

If you can remember one line then google it and you tube generally pops up with the full version plus karaoke style lyrics to follow, thats how I have managed/relearnt (as until I had the baby I didn't ned to remember).

When he was little Rockabye baby

Now (he's 8!) - he tends to get any combination of two out of four songs - I had a little nuttree, Heckety peckety my black hen, ging gang goolie or I went to the animal fair. Then christmas carols and songs in December.

My dd is only 8 weeks old and I don't know any nursery rhymes except twinkle twinkle little star! I just sing her Motown and 70's disco classics instead

My dc are much bigger (youngest is now 10) but I still sing -

Could you sing your Irish rebel songs but make up new words? I mostly sing nonsense words to tunes I know.
