CONGRATULATIONS!!

spacedonkey · 04/07/2006 21:58

Sorry? Why sorry mt? BLOODY WELL DONE!

Scumster · 04/07/2006 22:01

WELL DONE! Don't you go all perfectionist on us monk- that's a very good result.

Thanks..DP isn't speaking to me though. He's been my task master and is disappointed..We've just bought a house and I think he's worried I won't be able to get a good job now.

OP posts:
monkeytrousers · 04/07/2006 22:08

I won't qualify for a studentship now too..

OP posts:
squarer · 04/07/2006 22:08

Hmm. See your point now you mention it. I suggest you practice the following:
"Would you like fries with that?"

(You can't be serious??? Can you??)

squarer · 04/07/2006 22:09

Seriously - with that result you get to miss out on a studentship??? How? It's a great result.

monkeytrousers · 04/07/2006 22:10

I bumped onto two people who graduated last year with a 2/1 and they are still working for minimum wage!!

OP posts:
beckybrastraps · 04/07/2006 22:11

DP isn't speaking to you.....with a 2:1!!!!! How awful!

It's a great result.

What studentship do you want to apply for? I don't know what you were doing, but most funding requires a 2:1 surely?

Scumster · 04/07/2006 22:11

I think dp needs a slap. Taskmaster or not that's a poor way to respond. What is your degree in?

moondog · 04/07/2006 22:11

Oh fantastic!!
Well done you!!

A 2:1 is brilliant.

spacedonkey · 04/07/2006 22:11

You needed the first for a particular studentship? Can you look elsewhere for another one for which your upper 2:1 will be sufficient?

I'm sorry you're disappointed mt, but that's still a great achievement of which you should be proud!

squarer · 04/07/2006 22:12

Oh MT - it's kind of weird being upset for someone with such a brilliant result

monkeytrousers · 04/07/2006 22:13

Well the first come first served, IYSWIM..I want to feel better about it but don't even know if DP is going to want to pull out of buying the house because of this. His business is having a cash flow crisis at the mo and I hoped to take up a bit of the strain. It feels disastrous at the mo. Sorry..

OP posts:
moondog · 04/07/2006 22:14

MT,I konw people with PhDs who don't even have jobs!!!
It doesn't work like you think it does.

I can't remember the last time anyone asked me what degree I got.. (a 2:1 since you ask...)

Are you serious about your dp??
If you are,it's fucking unforgiveable.
He should be cracking open the champers and murmuring 'I'm so proud of you darling..'

Scumster · 04/07/2006 22:16

Absolutely agree, moondog. Mt honey- I don't really understand studentships. Is a studentship a job that you now won't get?

monkeytrousers · 04/07/2006 22:16

I never thought of looking elsewhere Spacedonkey. I love it so much at the place I'm at I would've applied for any one in the department.

Where do you find out about other studentships?

OP posts:
Blu · 04/07/2006 22:18

Blimey MT - congratulations, you have done very well. VERY well.

Your DP needs some sort of reality check.

moondog · 04/07/2006 22:18

What do you mean by studentship??

Are you talking sponsorship??

monkeytrousers · 04/07/2006 22:19

A studentship is being paid to carry out a research project for your lecturer - you get paid to study basically - it's a really competitive area.

Sorry to sound like such a misery guts..

squarer · 04/07/2006 22:19

Wish I had some wise words for you MT. You're a gem and you shine. You will light a pathway.

xxx

beckybrastraps · 04/07/2006 22:19

What do you want to do? I applied for my studentship before I got my degree result, and it was conditional on a 2:1 only. And I really am cross at your DP. It's his job to tell you how fab you are - put it all in perspective. Grrrrrrrrr!

moondog · 04/07/2006 22:20

MT,there should be lots of other options.
Don't jump to conclusions!!

What do you want to do-a PhD???

Sponsorship is another option, not as good obvioulsy.

My degree was in History of Modern Art, Design and Film - the dreaded humanites..! is dominiconnor lurking?
