Dunno about tena pants, Notgrownup. Probably something very similar.

I quite liked the bum deals nappies actually. But on a photo in reality rather than in real life. THe ruffles are a bit OTT probably. I would prefer something a little more sober.

BiscuitCrumbsInBed · 21/12/2012 20:47

Now I am confused about whether the nappies I have bought from pixie pants are Alvas! They came today and are lovely and soft... BabyB already loves them, she said 'owls! Owls!' and put the owl one on her favourite bunny... The wet bag i have is the same print as the nappy in the middle in your fb pic notgrownup and I saw the rest of those prints on the pixie page too, so are they all Alvas? Are all these random people like bum deal etc selling the same nappies? Mine don't have a brand name label in, just washing instructions. Just curious really, are these small companies buying loads on eBay and just selling them on I wonder? But seems odd if they are the same price?

VQ, I also think the ruffles and stuff a bit of a waste if no one sees them. Also maybe not very comfy if they make sort of lumps in the fabric when the baby is lying down(?) I saw some people putting the baby in 'baby legs' so you can see the nappy but I think it's a bit chilly for that this time of year. I like a vest poppered up underneath myself. Not for me. For baby biscuit. Although I am always cold so maybe it would be a good idea for me too Xmas Grin

And now, she's asleep, so it's Wine o'clock! Happy Friday everyone!

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 21/12/2012 21:02

I assume they get them wholesale through someone like alibaba, pop a label in then mark them up a bit?

Yeah, thats how I think they do it. Theyre in the wash atm but Ill be really sad and take some pics of the care labels and tag you in them then you can check with yours. Wink

Sad twat I am.

Ds1 has not stopped talking all day. Wow, I don't think he's paused for breath. Dh fell asleep with it and hes getting slapped on the head by ds1 to wake up as he is talking to him. Grin

What do they do with you in hospital BFG to keep you in for 4 days?

LeBFG · 22/12/2012 09:45

Mornin all. Yawn. Didn't sleep well. Currently doing a big wash. I'm pleased at the moment with my nappies. The fleecy ones are amazingly still absorbant enough with a LL bamboo booster. They have little black pile dots of them from DH's socks and look a bit crap. Any ideas on how to remove the pile, apart from pinching the bits off one by one?

The 4 day stay is to make sure baby starts to put on weight, mum's boobs don't get too enormous (yes, they kept a friend in over a week because of her boobs), check infections etc. There are no midwife/HCP home visits (apart from one at 8 days - at least in my neck of the woods). C'est la vie....it's just a very different attitude to childbirth and postnatal management. The french are really shocked at the UK system. The think it's barbaric Xmas Grin.

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 22/12/2012 10:28

Sellotape Xmas Wink

I thought i had the shopping under control, the sil texted dp with what she wants for her dc. We now have to tackle toys r us to spend £60 we don't really have. Sil has known for months what i bought, and approved Sad

Notgrownupinmyhead · 22/12/2012 16:26

Bic razor. Shock

That sounds alot more friendly than here. Although i was glad to be home several hours later it would've been nice to have stayed in at least overnight to bond with him just us two. We have our time 8-10pm when everyone else has gone to bed.

Pp, £60?! Bloody 'ell. Could you not say it had sold out and get them something cheaper Wink?

Ive tried and failed at wrapping today. Baby D has wanted me to himself all day so ill finish it tonight.

Got some handmade cushions being dropped off in a bit so no more pressies for these 3!

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 22/12/2012 19:10

It's more that she knew i was getting organised early because of being due 30/11, then text dp this week to say what she wanted for the kids. If I'd known in October when i did my shopping, I'd have sorted it - asking now after appearing to approve my choices seems a bit rude! (7yo dniece has severe asd so lone parent sil is forgiven, just need to rant on here) anyway, we got what they want and a bit more, plus a few last bits for other people - made dp buy me a book I've wanted for ages, despite agreeing that we're going to go away in Feb as our pressies to each other. He doesn't know he's getting something from me yet Xmas Grin

Managed 4 hours with ds in the stretchy, only curtailed things because we had a poosplosion in the Realeasy and i only had one Easyfit as a spare. Got home to more poo, think he's getting in the habit of pooing mid afternoon; I'll try and be better prepared next time!

Notgrownupinmyhead · 22/12/2012 19:52

If it makes you feel better Ive had to fish toddler poops out of the bath everyday for the past 2 days. Eurghh, stinky little sod. Confused

How is he liking the wraps and mei tai?

Boy3 laughs at me each time I open a poopy nappy.

Im saving up for a sewing machine, any recommendations?

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 22/12/2012 20:48

Loves both the stretchy and the mei tai - both dp and my mum have taken him out in the mt despite the buggy being available Xmas Shock

We're visiting in laws then friends over Xmas, how bad would it be to ask to use a washing machine? (i have a thread on this too btw) I've got enough pockets and aios to last i think but it'll stink the car out on the way home if I'm not careful Xmas Confused

Notgrownupinmyhead · 22/12/2012 21:58

I dont think its rude. You're not filling their bins with smelly nappies and it doesn't take up much time or owt to wash them and hang them up. Are you going to take your own detergent? I dont mind any guest using anything in this hovel house.

I tried baby in the Lifft and couldn't get him in right but chubby chops seemed to like it.

I'd sold my mt a month or so before the black stretchy, that didn't suit my back.

R's sleep is getting longer! Excellent!!

LeBFG · 23/12/2012 07:34

Glad people are sleeping better - so important a good, uninterrupted sleep.

Notgrownup - what sort of sewing machine are you looking for? I bought mine a few years ago from a really wonderful UK dealer/online shop. But hell, I can't find his details - will trawl through my emails later to see if I can find the name. Mine is a fairly cheap, multipurpose one - nothing heavy weight - but automatic threader etc and I LOVE it possibly more than DH.

When I washed nappies at my parents my mum kept sticking 10 litres of 2:1 washing liquid into each load the moment my back was turned. Argghh. Only time I've had to strip-wash my nappies. Grrrr. What are inlaw drying facilities like Pidj?

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 23/12/2012 08:13

Washing line or radiator, same as here. I wouldn't be hitting up the leccy bill Xmas Wink

My sewing machine came from Lidl!

LeBFG · 23/12/2012 08:37

Here is the man. Free delivery and great after service care/advice (no relation btw!).

Alamaya · 23/12/2012 08:54

stupid question ladies.
Im currently testing some bamboozles on my two babies. 7 wk and 19month.

Now obviously the nappies are damp when i take them off. How would you know you need more absorbancy would it be if they leaked on their clothes?

::)

LeBFG · 23/12/2012 10:15

Are they bamboo (sorry for ignorance)? With my fitted bamboo they'll get really very wet before they start leaking. They absorb a lot. So just being damp to the touch isn't a sign to change. My baby doesn't mind the wet feel - fleece liners may help if yours do. But it's a bit trial and error to be honest. I have some fleecy fitteds and they just don't 'hold' the wee, so as soon as they feel wet they need changing.

Notgrownupinmyhead · 23/12/2012 10:26

I love you BFG. Thanks. Ive got one of those money jars that you have to smash open and have just been sticking dosh in that for the sewing machine fund. Driving lessons next!

Lidl? That place is bloody brilliant! How long ago were they selling them?

Boy3 was up til 1am on a feeding frenzy but I'd gone up a teat size yesterday as he was taking over an hour to finish and he ended up puking all over me, laughed then went to sleep. Wink thank chuff boy2 has started to sleep through better! The headbanging seems to be a morning thing now.

Hi A, if they feel really wet and heavy I'd boost more. The boys sometimes leak if the wraps aren't secure enough round the legs or theres a right big gap at the top.

If they thud when they hit the floor they need boosting WinkWink

Alamaya · 23/12/2012 16:25

Ahhh deffo not wet and heavy ladies. Just damp i honestly couldnt squeeze any liquid out. Im suprised they are doing so good without even the booster they come with. Especially with my 19 month old.

Notgrownupinmyhead · 23/12/2012 17:10

They're ace night nappies Smile

Think anything bamboo is on an older child for nights. Brill fabric.

The Holdens ones mentioned by Protege look beautiful but are £26+ Hmm

Spent hours this morning cleaning the lounge carpet then just dropped a full plate of pasta and meatballs all over it. Grrrrrrrr.

BiscuitCrumbsInBed · 23/12/2012 22:36

Thanks for the pics Notgrownup! Tried out the birds pattern pocket with 2 LL bamboo boosters today, worked well, I changed after 2 1/4 hours but think it could have gone longer. Had a big leak today from a bumble fitted with a blueberry coverall wrap, I'm not sure whether I should use the middle setting on length cos I think it's a bit loose round the legs, but when I did that the other day it left red marks, hmm. V annoying as those nappies are usually bombproof.

V impressed with the sewing machine ownership rates on here, what do you make / plan to make? I occasionally have the fantasy idea of buying one but there is never time - I still have knitting I haven't finished from last winter and it's a tiny easy bit at that Xmas Sad once I get DD off to sleep (assuming it's before 10pm!) and tidied up and cleaned up I'm so tired I just down a glass of wine go to bed... Sorry to moan but the lack of time to do anything non-essential does get me down sometimes.

PP I think it's fine to ask the use the washing machine! I certainly wouldn't mind if you were staying with me Grin But if it is a problem, 2 day's worth of nappies shouldn't be too bad if you can bury them in the boot...?

Notgrownupinmyhead · 23/12/2012 23:25

Nowt wrong with having a moan, its good for you!

I dont know yet, probably customise clothes or something. My friends sil has made some beautiful cushions for the boys and her and seeing peoples craftiness is inspiring me to take up a hobby in the new year.

The new Alvas have leaked more but lasted the same length of time. I think i just need to adjust the legs.

Ive just finished wrapping the boys books. I need to ninja in the babies room tomorrow and get the stocking fillers.

Is everyone getting excited?

peanutMD · 24/12/2012 11:32

Morning ladies :)

Sorry if I'm interrupting but I'm just looking for some advice.

DC2 is due in March and I think I would like to give reusables a go but DP is horrified by the idea so could you recommend something easy to use and preferably not expensive as initial budget may be an issue (incase we don't like). I looked at Terry squares but they seem quite complicated for DP.

Would out be worth using reusables part time when I'm in charge of things?

Also I work in a nursery where LO will be attending from around 9 months and when I mentioned reusables to the girls in the baby area they says they had one child in then so that's not an issue but they make for horrid poosplosions which is a scary prospect :o

Anyway thanks.

LeBFG · 24/12/2012 12:42

Hi peanut. I'm due the same month as you!! I've used reusables with DS but not during the first newborn weeks (too much else to panic about do). I used LL and nature babies fitted nappies with a motherease cover. I would personally stay away from terries too (but loads of people love them and they dry really quickly). The Nappy Lady website does a free assessment/recommendation based on your priorities and drying facilities etc. I did this. You also get a discount on future purchases if you do this.

BiscuitCrumbsInBed · 24/12/2012 13:49

Hi Peanut! I second BFG's suggestion of asking the Nappy Lady, she knows her stuff and is really helpful. I also did the ' try cloth for£10' trial with Fill Your Pants which was really good for having a look at & trying out different kinds of nappies. There may be a nappy library in your area too - I've never used one but it sounds helpful. I use mostly 2 part nappies and they are pretty easy when you know what to do, the only faff is putting on first the nappy, then the waterproof wrap, when you have a squirmy toddler! All in ones or pocket nappies go on like a disposable in one go so are easier in that regard. I didn't start using cloth til DD was nearly a year so can't comment on leak of runny newborn poo but I very rarely get a leak now. I think cloth nappies tend not to have that slight gape at the top of the back which I find you get with disposables, so presumably less likely to get poo right up the back of the neckwhich used to happen all the time when DD was tiny!

Have a read of some of the other threads in this topic as there are quite a few asking for tips/advice re nappies, washing etc, so there is lots of info there already.

BiscuitCrumbsInBed · 24/12/2012 13:52
